Great info. I used to use Shoei but switched to Shark because for me the fit is better and I like the ease of the flip down sun visor. What I love is that over the past decade or so many manufacturers have stepped up their game and make really great products for motorcyclists.

Torn between the RF-1400 and Bell Race Star Flex DLX. I mostly do: 1) Daily commute on freeways 2) weekly backroad 3) and quarterly track days. All this on a Street Triple RS. @jbb3675
@jbb3675 3 жыл бұрын
@@brentbandy3566 Hey Brent, the EXO R1 Air that I have is incredibly aerodynamic and there's not a lot of wind noise but it's much louder than my LS2 Arrow Carbon. I have a 2 stroke Aprilia scooter with every race part imaginable on it and it's beyond obnoxiously loud. I had only driven with the LS2 before I got the EXO and I didn't realise how loud it was until switching helmets! The LS2 is very uncomfortable compared to the EXO though. If I were you, I would also look at the AGV K3 or K6, they're probably the best in that price range. The EXO is ultra lightweight and extremely comfortable but it's nowhere near the quietest helmet I've had. Volume wise, it's closer to the HJC CL-15 Draco I had before. Hope that helps!

Shoei GT Air is a better helmet, because of the added benefit of a Drop Down Visor.
@TelepathicRabbit
@TelepathicRabbit 3 жыл бұрын
I’ve had two helmets with visors and they are so incredibly useful. It’s also nice to be able to pop it down and pull the face shield up so you get a nice bit of air to cool off but still have some wind protection for your eyes (great if you wear contact lenses).

Finding a helmet that fits was the hardest thing I did it took me 3 months of trying especially because my country doesn’t have a wide verity off helmets also not all manufacturers have real intermediate oval shapes I tried the same size and the same head shape in different brands and they were completely different one fits like a glove the other gave me a headache just from wearing it once.

For the longest time I had my wishlist the stealth air flight rubatone. The reviews though said it got weird. But it can’t be that bad if that many people have it. I’m torn between these theee feel free to comment some help. 1. Stealth MIPS Airflight Rubatone 2.Simpson Ghost Bandit. 3. Shoei GT air 2 or 1400

Little disappointed to see a helmet that only has a DOT rating make a best of list, Scorpion AT950. . Hell it can't even be sold in Australia.

Good alternative, an in my opinion a much better option is the Bell MX-9 Adventure Mips. The only reason people buy the AT-950 is because its a modular.

@@jibjibmonkeyman99 The MX9 has been pretty close to the top of my list, but it worries me that it's a very noisy helmet very poor sound insulation. I ride with ear plugs, but with cardo comms as well, so I need that balance between keeping enough sound out and letting enough in.

Took a trip with a friend of mine where I borrowed his Sport Modular and he took my helmet since we wear the same size and wanted to try the other helmet. I actually liked it a lot except for a small pressure point on my ear but didnt have a problem with noise and we were riding at 80mph on average.

Good video overall, but I can't for the life of me figure out why the Airflite is constantly given gold stars. Yes the graphics are cool, yes the visor and spoiler options are funky; but the video fails to mention the fact that the Airflite is a heavy, ill-fitting (for lots of people), and incredibly noisy helmet. Sure, graphics and cosmetic accessories are nice but compared to the function of the helmet they are rather tertiary. Not to mention, (as wasn't mentioned in the video) the Airflite MIPS cost $70 more at $320. You could buy other MIPS helmets such as the Bell Qualifier for less ($280) which also comes with an auto-tinting shield, and a fit that is far more compatible with most riders. Instead of the Airflite, there are several other helmets that would be more cost effective, offer a better fit, and be generally more pleasant to wear on the daily. Including the Scorpion EXO R420 (Snell, ~$150-$160), the HJC i10 (Snell, ~$135-$160), the aforementioned Bell Qualifier(ECE, ~$280), the HJC F70 (ECE, ~$250) just to name a few. None of these have the same flashy colorways, graphics, or cosmetic accessories that the Airflite has. What they do deliver in spades of, is better fit (for the majority) and better value. If looking cool and intimidating is the primary objective then by all means, the Airflite takes the cake every time. But you do make sacrifices for the appearance. Namely weight, size, fit and noise. If choosing a helmet that offers the most safety and function is the goal, then the Airflite has a long way to the top.
@DownforceInc
@DownforceInc 3 жыл бұрын
"If looking cool and intimidating is the primary objective" This is the primary objective for many riders. Hence, the Airflite sells like crazy, even though there are fiberglass/composite-shelled helmets out there (like the F70 you mentioned) for less money than the Airflite. Business gonna business, I guess. Well written though.

One thing I can’t find anywhere is comparison of shell sizes when wearing (say the bubble head category). Maybe something for you guys to include/comment in reviews. But since I’m here, which one is more compact when on: AGV sportmodular, Nolan 100-5 or HJCs. These are different categories, but just trying to tick as many boxes as possible. Cheers!

Scorpion is so underrated. The EXO-R1 is such a great bargain for a track helmet. My EXO-R1 Carbon that I ordered from Europe only weighs 2.64 lbs, has ECE cert, titanium D-rings, free dark smoke visor, etc. I didn’t even know about their racing cred til I saw Fabio wearing one in MotoGP. The quality is fantastic and the US version should be available soon.

Brent Bandy I think it would do great. I use mine on a KTM 1290 Superduke and that thing is a hyper naked, so no front wind protection like a cruiser and it is fantastic at higher speeds. No wind buffeting and vibrations like my old HJC CL-17 on the highway 😎.
