The Museum of the American Revolution is one of the best places to start if you want to learn about how it contributed to early America. You can also go to the National Constitution Center. The best museums in Philadelphia don’t just focus on the colonists and the Revolutionary War. They also show the contributions of other cultures and how they continue today.
The National Museum of Jewish History is one of the largest of its kind in the country, and the American Swedish Historical Museum is nothing to sneeze at either. The African-American Museum shows their contributions to the country. At the Color Girls Museum, you can even add your own items for future generations to see. Philadelphia is a hub for lovers of art. The Philadelphia Museum of Art is the city’s answer to the Louvre. The nearby Rodin Museum has the largest collection of French sculptures outside of Paris. The PAFA is one of the first art schools and museums in the United States.
Science is alive in Philadelphia in the Academy of Natural Sciences. There are also medical items at The Mütter Museum. Many generous historic figures turned their passion into a collection and then into a museum. The Rosenbauch brothers gave hundreds of rare books and manuscripts. Len Davidson gave hundreds of signs throughout history.
Children flow through the city on school trips all the time, but the best museum in Philadelphia for them is the Please Touch Museum. They’re encouraged to learn by interacting with everything in it.

As a Philadelphian I have been to almost all of these museums. What should have been included is the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art (PAFA) - arguably the oldest public art gallery in the US, with it's superb collection of American art. There is also the Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion museum - a perfectly preserved and maintained Victorian mansion of the 1850's that is elegant and opulent.
