If they did a cross between the F4 and the F8 we'd be talking: Two 10GB network ports, 8 (or at least 4) M.2 SSD and 1 (or at most 2) spindle bays. I want a hybrid in which the on-line storage is all SSD, but I can hot swap a HD for off-line backup.

I just hope they fix the Unraid boot issues soon. I bought one and it’s finicky to get running with Unraid. Once it’s up and running it’s awesome

Nice video. This device is 899.99 on Amazon, I guess the price went up. The 6 bay version is s $999.99. I like the better CPU but to really use it as a home lab I still need to buy the M2 drives as well as upgrade the RAM.

I have been very happy with my DXP6800 but I did get it at Kickstarter prices. It's running TrueNAS great and the only thing I haven't bothered to fix is the front LEDs for HDD access. Mine hides in the basement so I don't see it anyway. I have one 10Gb port going to my data network. The other is going directly to my proxmox host with Jumbo Frames.

If dont mind hundred hours on setup and security, get a am5 7600 processor , msi x670E tomahawk, bifuration quad nvme carrier card You have 8 m2 slot when only main x16 slot and all onboard m2 slot spended. Still got some Free sata port and pcie slot for more storage and network card etc Size and power consumption sky rocket of course

I just need to access my video / photo files from numerous locations without internet access. Is that possible? For example download video files to my laptop from distance. I also need massive amounts of storage and back up.

If my budget was enough, I´d love to get this machine. Unfortunaly I wont get this far with 300€. (Have to factor in 2x12TB Seagate IronWolf, which set me back 240€ as well).

Buy factory refurbished&recertified HDDs for less than half price. Failure rate is the same as new people say. I've been running 3 Seagate compute ones for a year without problems

I've bought DAS, because network WILL BE A BOTTLENECK anyway, in mooost cases, and I just need fast local storage connected to my PC via USB, with ZFS. It works like a charm. NASes are not worth it most of the times. You rarely access same storage from different parts of your infra. Also, I absolutely do NOT trust any vendor firmware like this Terramaster OS ...
