I don't know how all these scouts missed this. I am an amateur analyst and I watched Luka play four games in Real and I was convinced he was the safest pick in that draft class. I was sold on his playmaking from the first game. That isn't something that goes away and a good playmaker can open up a ton of other options on the offensive end. I also saw him as a super young player with a high ceiling for development. I was shocked to hear some analysts talk like he was an older player who had reached his peak already. I was sitting there like, this guy is within a year of the one-and-done kids, how is he at his peak? He also played in a professional league for two years, won a championship and represented his nation, so no stranger to big moments. Sometimes I swear the sports media is the biggest example of group-think outside of modern American politics.

@Max I'm going to have to disagree. The Suns took Ayton over him, even though they didn't have a solid PG. The Hawks traded Luka for Trey Young. I love how people talked so much about his athleticism, and brought up guys like Bird, Dirk and Nash. Who were crafty white guys that were never the most athletic guys in the NBA, yet were MVP’s and are now HOF’ers. Luka reads defences better than almost any PG in the league today, he knows how to create shots for himself, his shooting is getting better and better, they’re putting pieces around him that will help his defensive lapses. He’s 6’7 playing the point which automatically gives him an advantage over smaller defenders. If they can find a true Center to help them grab boards like Chandler did for the Mavs and a wing Defender along the lines of Marion. Then this team will be a title contender NO DOUBT

It's kind of funny the way they talk about Luka at 0:33 is pretty much the exact way they spoke about Tom Brady. Guess we'll see If history repeats itself.

Luka is redefining athleticism... Low center of gravity... cant be pushed around...Lengthy Horizontal movement... Stops on a dime... All underrated attributes because the focus is on top speed and vertical
@nachomagallanico5 жыл бұрын
if you look at the guys who were underestimating Luka's talent before he played in the NBA, they are all what you can say media goons. Every player, ex player and as Broussard said scout, knew what this kid was all about, players know that when a 18 years old wins the Euro Legue MVP of the finals you're dealing with prodigy kind of stuff. He just needs to get better defensively and he'll become a champion with the right peaces for sure.

A wise man once said, "A great athlete will give the crowd oohs and ahhs, but a great basketball player will win you games." That's who Luka Doncic is, a great basketball player. Just how great he becomes will be a factor of time played, injuries sustained and their effects on his overall play, and his work ethic and desire to develop, and his team and individual results. He's easily the most accomplished European player to enter the league, especially at his age. People queried Larry Bird's athletic ability before he came into the league, and he showed that a slow white guy who could hardly get off the hardwood could still impact the game in a multitude of ways, based off his intelligence, and skill set. I'm not saying that Doncic is the next coming of Larry Bird, at least not until he starts winning championships. I do think that with Kristaps Porzingis (assuming that KP is healthy) are going to be a great duo for the Mavs, and with the right pieces around them, they will be a force to be reckoned with in the West for the next decade if they stay together.

Since when has lack of athleticism stopped highly skilled, high IQ players? Its like these idiot "experts" forgot about Bird, Duncan, Nash, Stockton, Nowitzki, etc.... And Lukas speed and hops is fine since He's got plenty of size at 6'7 - 6'8. High IQ and skills will always prevail over just athleticism in basketball. Duh.

to be fair, despite all of them being wrong initially, most of them admitted that they were wrong about him once the season started. Nothing wrong with changing your opinion, or getting a call wrong. Admitting it is hard to most people who make predictions for a living.

I watch NBA and eruropean basketball, no college ball. I had huge expectations when for Ayton when I discovered he was rated higher than Doncic. I thought there was no way Doncic wasn't gonna be first pick so if that guy was rated higher he must have special special. It was so clear Doncic was a real deal to anyone who followed him.

Ironically, when dirk came up the bigs down low were physical. The league isn’t as physical anymore and Luka’s game doesn’t need to be played that way. He’s doing all the right things. He’s putting on muscle and slimming down. I said halfway through last season, that he just needed one year to see what playing in the nba to make his adjustments. Luka will be running for mvp in no more than 5 years
