Kareem Blackston Houston has been winning for the last 2 years shooting 3s. They were the number 1 seed last year, I don’t remember where they finished this year but it was surprisingly high considering their injuries and how horrible they started off. The only team that’s really had their number is golden state, the “other” three point team. Also, the bucks shot a ton of threes this year, and they did great up until they ran into Kawhi. I don’t think you have to shoot 3s like the warriors to win, but it does seem to be trending, at least a little bit, in that direction.

I know you said commentators, which is not directed at people like me, so I understand you are not insulting all of us, I can only hope that you don't think all of us are like this. Seriously I was more upset than you, as an american, with the way they were treating donic. He *won the mvp* as a boy playing against grown ass men, whoever thought he wouldn't walk into the league and be excellent clearly just doesn't know enough basketball or holds too heavy of a bias against international players
@michaelbarbosa83635 жыл бұрын
And what amazes me is that those commentators are incapable of learning their lesson. Porzingis, Yao, Ginobli, Doncic and a dozen more this century.... don’t they even consider that MAYBE they should look into basketball out of US more seriously? That MAYBE they’re being dumbs and blind to the fact that young players overseas are playing professional basketball for real money with tough adults.... no, they’ll do the same bs with the next non ncaa big prospect
@Konahagure5 жыл бұрын
Not in the way you're implying. Showing them up would be playing this well and they hadn't even discussed him in the top "ten" of the draft or something. Almost everyone had him in the top two or three. Most of the attention in America is going to be on American hoopers. Understandable. It'd be hard for most talking heads in America to guess at a number one pick being an overseas player that they really haven't been watching like Max admitted to with Doncic also.

Except for Will Cain, the other "experts" have the same tunnel vision that has hampered the development of American-born white NBA players since Larry Bird. At every age group and level of play, from youth leagues through college, black athletes are automatically assumed to be better players due to their superior athleticism, and monopolize the playing time. By contrast, many European countries have a homogeneous population consisting almost entirely of white people. In such countries, athletes like Luka Doncic have a chance to play and develop their skills, albeit not as thrilling and dynamic as most black athletes. It is about the system of coaching and popularity of sports. Almost all great international players came from ex Yu countries (including Luka Dončić). It's Yugoslavian school of basketball. Also, basketball is an extremely popular sport in former Yugoslavia. Also, keep in mind that people in the central Balkan are the tallest people on the planet (alongside with some Eastern African tribes, my brain is malfunctioning I can't remember their names). Also, the bias against international players exists regardless of race. Even back in the 1980s when there were many more white American players in the NBA, European players were disrespected way more than they are disrespected today. Dražen Petrović was that era's Luka Dončić and he was in the third round of the NBA draft. Also, there is an equal bias against people of color from South America as there is a bias against white international players in the NBA.

@Akira S You can actually. I know that Luka and Darko and all the other Euro busts receive the same amount of hype from the US media, but that's the only thing that Luka has in common with Euro busts. Seriously, there is nothing else that Luka's European career has in common with European careers of Euro busts. Darko Miličić and all the other players that you named were nobodies in Europe prior to going to the NBA. Nobody in Europe had even heard of them before they went to the NBA. Luka Dončić on the other hand was a legend in Europe prior to going to the NBA. Luka's stats in Europe were incomparable to Darko's stats or to stats of any other European bust (in fact Luka Dončić Europe accomplishments could only be compared to Dražen Petrović's accomplishments). Luka was the best player on the best European team prior to going to the NBA draft. And he was 18 years old back then. No other player that you have mentioned came close to ever in their career being a Euroleague MVP, or even just one of the best Euroleague players. Dončić on the other hand was the best Euroleague player since he was 17-18 years old. The only thing which Luka has in common with European busts is high position in the draft and the hype from the American media. If you look at his stats in Europe and his accomplishments in Europe, then there is no comparasment between Luka and any of the European busts. Before the 2018 draft, it was obvious to anyone who watched Luka that he is a generational talent.

The bias is mainly against international players, not against a race. Although, thankfully the bias against international players has been constantly decreasing.

Luka is great, but the Suns did no wrong by selecting Deandre Ayton

I think people here dont really know whats going on with the draft. They think any player can fit anywhere and thats just silly

Yeah.. best case scenario is " rockets didn't do wrong drafting olajuwon, but they still passed on mj" and the gap between mj and olajuwon will probably be lesser than that between Luka and ayton so there is that
