I love how even the small parts in this movie are subtly funny: the way Imhotep opens his mouth menacingly to kill O'Connell and then snaps it shut when he hears that his ass is about to be banished back to the underworld. Also the way he chases after the chariot. Arnold Vosloo is such a great casting - easily switches back and forth between frightening, intimidating and comical.

I love this movie. I remember watching this with my dad. He is a big monster flick movie buff and I know it's not like all other monster films but I still loved it. I remember my teacher showed mummy returns in class because we were learning about Egyptians. I even made a hieroglyph name plate of my name. I wish I still had it. :( I also remembered getting hyped for the opening clashing with the Rock & seeing Anubis. Anubis was my favorite part. I wish they showed a little bit more about different Gods & Goddesses. ❤

The curse that Imhotep underwent is meant to be a punishment for his crimes of murdering Pharaoh Seti (pharaoh are believed to be descended from the Egyptian Gods; so murdering the figurehead would mean to provoke the divine), grave robbery (he and his priests stole the Pharoah's mistress) and sacrilege (stealing the Black Book of the Dead to perform a resurrection ritual). As for the curse itself, it's meant to deny him a place in the afterlife, a state of perpetual agony within his own body...as long as his sarcophagus isn't opened. Otherwise, resurrecting the subject of the curse would render him as a walking plague.
