I'm surprised no road course victories are in this video. Mark was a good wheelman back in the day (true skill of shifting, braking and of course turning both ways). In fact even when Jeff showed up he was Jeff's top rival at Watkins and Sonoma.

Mark won at The Glen in ‘93, ‘94, and ‘95 - all with that same awesome paint job; crazy for a cup driver to three-peat a road course - in any era.

I'm from Arkansas like Mark and my dad went up to buy a truck from his dealership in Batesville. Obviously paperwork takes longer than a Daytona 500 rain delay so me and my mom walked around the INCREDIBLE museum, bought some souvenirs, and eventually got to meet and get a picture with Mark. Bill Elliott was supposed to be there too but got on the wrong flight. Mark is a very cool, humble guy. I'm convinced Johnny Cash and Mark Martin are the two best things so far to comer out of the Natural State.

Agreed, I mean is it even possible to hate Martin? Every driver has people that don't like them... except maybe him. Nascar isn't the same since he left, that's for sure!
@jordane4847 Жыл бұрын
I mean, Jeff Gordon also existed; and Dale Sr - Bill Elliott, Rusty Wallace, Jimmie Johnson, the Labontes - I don’t see how it would have ever been possible; Mark was well liked, but never most popular; not compared to others. He was never going to be more popular than Jeff or Dale; that’s just reality.

I'm glad I was around to watch Mark's entire career in NASCAR. I'll never forget, & I know neither will he,the race he lost while leading! I don't know what was going through his mind. He came in thinking the race was over,& he had won! Then he found out there was a lap remaining, & he gave away his win! He never did that again! They won 4 races in a row, had great seasons, but weren't able to win the championship. It's truly a shame for everyone involved in that #6 team,from Jack on down to the last person involved, they deserved it!❤🏁

Rememebr when NASCAR screwed him out of a Championship by penalizing the team just enough points to give Earnhardt the Championship (because a part was bolted and not welded if I remember correctly). One of the many ways NASCAR owners ensured Dale's success
@OccasionalNASCARRaces3 жыл бұрын
That happened in February. How did NASCAR know in advance how many points everyone would score lol
@gilliganallmighty33 жыл бұрын
The spacer was too thick. It was Richard Childress that called him out on it though. The worst part was the official telling the team "don't lose by less then 45 points".They lost by 27.
@teafresch78373 жыл бұрын
Worst part was that is was welded and not bolted. So it provided zero benefit and they had been using that setup since the prior season and never had any complaints if I remember right
@duffman188 ай бұрын
Yep it didn't provide any advantage whatsoever, and Nascar was absolutely fine with it and had been for months, until they complained about it and got nascar to dock him points. It was complete BS. At worst what should have happened was that they simply weren't allowed to use the welded one in future races, but that Martin could keep the points he won. Docking him points was a punishment that did not even remotely fit the supposed "crime".

Hands down in my opinion there has never been a driver better than mark Martin. I know there's a lot of places he didn't win at and I know is there for better than 2 decades he never won a championship, but there's Nobody more humble on and off the track in the past And present. Mark didn't drive like a lot of people do today where they'll put you in the wall for a win, mark had much more respect than that. If you had the faster car, you had the faster car and he would just try to find a way to beat you with what he had next week .

Had pictures of his arca cars, Winn-Dixie, Folgers, Valvoline, Strohs Light, and army cars on my wall and filled a home made shelf with his die cast cars… great driver who would go head to head with the best, often beating them and always no matter what win or lose, would respect the game.
