UPDATE: Mark did end up purchasing JR51 from Landon to put in his Batesville Museum which you can see in this video! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jompeqqhoL-Xa7c Something you may see on tv for 45 seconds before the race may have a huge awesome story behind it like this. We’re super grateful for NBC and NASCAR for allowing us to use the on track footage. Just an awesome day. If you haven’t seen the other videos we’ve done with Mark you should check them out!

my baseball coach had cancer, his last wish was to meet mark. my dad worked at daytona and set it up with marks team, so we all went and met him sometime in like 2004. mark was so nice, spent so much time with us and shook my hand like 20 times. my family still talks about how nice and 'normal' he was, he really was jus like an average guy. super cool memory.

right after he put it into gear the first time you could tell Mark was immediately at home in that car like it was 1998 again.

Dang I was 22 and heavily into NASCAR when he raced this car. It even took me back just watching the video and having my memories of watching it. I can't imagine the experience for Mark. Amazing job Landon and all involved on the restoration!

I loved it when he said, he started it and it sounded Right! And when he started going threw the gears and it felt right! This guy along with tons of others were at the end of the best era of NASCAR that ever was! I grin the entire video, what a legend!!!

Thank you so much for this. Mark Martin was and is my favorite driver . I never missed a race he was in. When I finally got to see him win in person in the 5 car I cried. It was that overwhelming. I have this die cast as well. Now I know the full history of it. This is the NASCAR I miss so much. I no longer watch it regularly because of what it has become but your channel brings back memories constantly. I’m from Mississippi so I’ve always kept up with Lake Speed and have met him more than once and getting to see him again is wonderful. So thank you for your hard work to bring all these memories back.

I met Mark at a Walmart, on his way to Taladega , from Arkansas. He was not a bit egotistical or rude. I tried to leave him alone as he had to stop for things he had left home. He had to be the biggest 5’6” guy I have ever met. Super restoration. Now if you can get Jack to adjust the carburetor.

I watched Mark run and win the Red Bud at Anderson speedway, I remember a second car like the one he was driving parked behind the grand stands near turn one. It was the white and orange number 2 Camaro but it had holes cut out of the bumper unlike the one he was racing that night. He also drove for my uncle Bill and that Camaro was painted blue and had G.W. PIERCE on the quarter panels. Sadly though Bill, Buckie, and Arthela have passed away. Mark was and is my favorite driver from nascar, I met him only once at the dealership in Batesville. Super kind person especially to the children. Thanks for the video Stapleton42.
