For me what makes these things so horrifying is the same as it was with the Tripods from the War of the Worlds film... which oddly enough also starred Tom Cruise... anyway, it's the fact that death is so instantaneous and in an instant there's NOTHING of you left - no time for your brain to experience that final "death neurochemistry" experience that dying brains ease with it - you're just... GONE. To others that may seem like the opposite, but to me, the idea of being robbed of that final "death experience" sounds terrible. I guess the same goes for any manner of death that obliterates your brain.
@Alpharius939 жыл бұрын
+Xandermorph Never thought of it that way... I think I would prefer to at least have enough time to realize I will be gone in short time, before being vaporized. I have no idea what would be preferable though. Maybe we should ask the dead...
@Xandermorph9 жыл бұрын
+Alpharius93 Haha! Well, if necromancy ever comes in "just add water" form, I'll give that a try... However, going on the basis of the vast majority of near-death-experience reports, it would seem that your brain does indeed have something of a "procedure" for dying, assuming it's intact. While it's a very controversial idea, I personally lean toward the idea that when the brain thinks it's about to die, it starts releasing DMT.
@Xandermorph9 жыл бұрын
+Alpharius93 But either way, yeah I agree - final neurochemically-induced transcendental experience or not, I still would want to have at least some semblance of awareness that I'm about to die. To instantly be obliterated and just "switched off" so abruptly is a concept that deeply disturbs me. LOL man, what a weirdly dark topic to get into in the context of a video like this, huh? :P Honestly though, it's almost impossible for me to watch movies with death scenes like this and NOT start contemplating it. When I saw War of the Worlds in the theater, I actually missed around 15-20 mins following the first attack scene because I started contemplating being instantly incinerated to ash XD - in the end, my introspection about the scene scared me WAY more than the scene itself :P
@Alpharius939 жыл бұрын
Xandermorph Yeah, what a topic :S Something similar happened to me on various times after watching a few particular deaths on films and videogames. I remember watching in Call of Cthulhu - Dark Corners of the Earth, in first person (temporary mind projection to other character), being thrown into a rock grinder. The connection broke abruptly after less than a second, but I was left disturbed for the rest of the day. Not a death I would enjoy either...

I love how dissonant and "unmusical" the sounds they make are. Great effort was put into avoiding any sort of coherent chord progression with the beeps and boops, low rumbling, and their strange mooing that is recognizably vocal, but...not. Almost every sound they make, except for the pure tone they emit when all's clear, is ragged. They jam a whole bunch of barely differentiated tones together and it creats highly dissonant "chords" which we do not find pleasant. A bit of sound theory goes a long way and the designers here put it to very effective use.

The drons in this movie were pretty awesome! In reality a sphear drone with guns that can shoot in all directions would be lethal. I am sure if the made a real weapon system like this they would have long range support drones that all communicate. Our tech might not be able to make them now but in the future we might see something close to this. Have a weapon system work as a team and like a wolf pack. Now that would be lethal! Also what a aweful way for a all machine alien to attack earth! use one of there best to clone and attack the earth. But I tell you one thing. Man, I would love to have a house like that above the clouds! Have a heli pad. It would be a bitch to land on! But that clear pool 3000ft up would be amazing!
@radiantjet4189 жыл бұрын
***** WOW! I did not know the Abrams M1A1 had a system like that! Yeah it is scary to think we already have systems like that. Which can carry over to autonomous robots later on. Lockeed/Martin is working on making a nuclear power device the size of a backpack or smaller. When that happens I am sure we will see those power suits the US Army has been testing. They have the tech for the power suit but lack a good power source so it's pretty much plugged into the wall.

Everyone is commenting on the sound design. I love it too! It seems like some noises are for intimidation (ED209 was based on the same principle. A broken, struggling robot isn't scary... If it screams like a dozen of monsters being tortured, you won't go near that. 😜) , some for interaction with technicians(Like Google Now or siri. The TALK NOW sound is simple and effective.) , and some for scanning the environment! (Basically an audible sonar/ultrasound sensor) I think that's why it shrieked after being shot in the last scene! That would also explain why it's "grunting" all the time! Plus, that shot backwards... AGH! I love those scary, murderous machines! 😆

Another detail that I recently found out, is the main reason on why the Jack Harper clones haven't really seen a Scav up close to identify them, is that with the major of the killings being done by drones, the drones basically disintegrate their all carbon-based lifeforms that they find, mainly humans, so it would be hard for the Jack Harper clones to identify something that is human by their ashes when they go out in the world to run repairs/maintenance on drones as well as have reservations or feel bad/guilty about killing other humans since the Jack Harper clones were brainwashed and told that the Scavs where extra-terrestial aliens that came from a different planet and invaded Earth going with the story the Tet provided all of them when creating the Jack Harper clones

Cyberdyne Systems should have made these drones instead, they'd have had JC in five mins.

Exceptional drone design everything from the hardware design to the artificial intelligence. My version however would utilize anti-gravity fields instead of those thrusters. Although the thruster design does seem to be highly efficient. With a few modifications they would be wonderful at maintaining order during the upcoming global dictatorship.
