I had a hockey tournament once, where they brought a american team of refs in. He was exactly like this. Gave you lots of props when giving all, and gave you stick if you had a bad attitude on the ice. Constantly trying to motivate you to do better and better. Great profesionals.

I know a ref who annually refs a tournament for soccer and hes always doing commentary and it's halarious

I love how the job goes far beyond just reffing, they get on first name basis with all the players, build trust between them. I've had some refs in my hockey that do such a good job and always come and talk with us in the warm-up, share a gatorade with them, etc. Might I add the officiating was really well done in the IIHF, they should think about using some European officials in the NHL if they don't already.
