It's weird: Dave Winters, two years before making the horrendous, piss-poor Space Mutiny made "Thrashin'" (1986) - which is an epic, ton of fun 80s skateboard gang B-movie, which is a straight up fantastic cheez-fest, well worth a watch! (A good bit like the BMX movie "Rad" from the same time)

As MANY have pointed out: The entire "Belarian" sub-plot has no connection to the actual movie, this is likely because these sections were filmed for part of a (you guessed it) different movie entirely. They never interact with any of the main characters besides Santa Claus, and that scene is particularly suspect as he is wearing an entirely different costume for it than anywhere else in the movie. The Belarians never had anything to do with anything and the scenes they shot with them were probably thrown in by the editor(s) in order to lengthen a running time that was clearly too short for a full-length film. Also they really did steal footage from Battlestar Galactica and were somehow not sued to my knowledge. The film is such a mess of editing that its a wonder it even made it to theatres.

eliasmurray It was The Blood Waters of Doctor Z. Yeah, it seems like they are unaware that MST3K watched some of their movie picks. It's probably better that way, because they are genuinely blindsided by hilarious moments like Reb Brown's scream-into-calmly-jumping-from-vehicle moment. Question: are we seriously expected to believe that the blind woman in Death Spa is just bumbling her way through life while her eyes heal like nothing's wrong? Like, how did she even GET to her locker in the first place? Did she just stagger through the parking lot while groping at stuff and hope she reaches the front door of the gym? Generally speaking, there's a reason why people in this condition remain in hospital while they're waiting for their eyes to heal. Just saying.

I think the computer in Death Spa is a red herring. Not for us, but for the characters. Ghost posses computer so it looks like it's the computer's fault when people die...even when not related to the computer. But it was in the age of 'COMPUTER DO ALL THINGS!" film making.

37:53 Dune, which is from the 60s, iirc, has precognition and sort-of-reincarnation. The Foundation series has an unexplained branch of mathematics which also acts basically as prophetic abilities. Yeah, sci fi does have a history of mystical elements, sometimes hidden under pseudoscientific jargon, other times not.

That's because, as Jay so astutely observed, the sound effects for the gunfire sound like they were taken directly from the Indiana Jones movies. To be specific, to my ears they sound like they might be the exact gunshot sounds lifted from the brawl at Marion's Tavern in Nepal! The punches also sound "borrowed" from Raiders! They do sound larger than life, but also help showcase why Ben Burtt is The Man!!
