Long-awaited and great info! The video would be so much more engaging if you were actively building with us while explaining. I was expecting to see your real-time reactions-it might add some extra wait?

Yeah, I agree but that wouldn't be really watchable, because it took like a couple of hours to troubleshoot and make everything work. It's really a format that wouldn't really work on KZbin, maybe a live instead

What did you end up buying? :)

Definitely interested in the upcoming Mac vs PC for architecture that you mentioned. I’ve been a Mac person for decades. I’m considering getting the new MacBook Pro with M4 Max - but I’ve heard PCs are still better for render engines. I model and draft in Rhino - but was looking into Twinmotion for renders.

Glad to hear there is an interest for this!

In 2024 for Rhino, it would be better to seek out a balanced PC build with money allocated to in a balanced way across CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD. Currently, investing too much in a CPU, especially a highly multithreaded CPU with 24 or 32 threads would likely be a mistake if that machine was primarily being used for Rhino. In the future Grasshopper 2 will be more multithreaded but until then, most of Rhino relies on just a couple of threads and further since the release of Rhino 8 any new system should be built around using a dedicated GPU not the CPU for multithreaded rendering, including viewport rendering.

Regarding GPUs "Quadro" is no longer a thing. Nvidia began moving away from the Quadro branding in 2018 fully phased it out by 2020. Beginning with Rhino 8, rendering is always faster with a dedicated GPU rather than than through multithreaded CPU rendering. Regarding Memory, 4 sticks of memory has generally been a situation that you want to avoid on new all AM4 and AM5 systems, and on 12th Gen or newer Intel processors. Instead, get as much memory as you can afford across just two sticks.

That's true about Quandro. I mentioned that they are now called RTX A-Series, but most people know these cards by Quadro cards, so that's why I referred to them this way. As for RAM, yes, 2 x 48 GB seems to be a great combo. I've had problems getting 4 x 32 gb to work on their highest frequency.

Would a high end gaming PC be also good for architectural rendering? I need images rendered fast and I need to handle large BIM files.

Yes, it should, but id simply depends on the components which are in the configuration

You can also call what we've build high end gaming PC because it can run anything
