It's both a testament to its greatness as well as a tragedy that nigh 5 years later, the Index is still the best overall package you can get for PCVR.

The only specific reason to recommind 4060 instead of 3060 is the AV1 streaming, which is a game changer for people who use Quest 3 wireless PCVR

I use either H264 set for 500Mbps or AV1 at 150 Mbps with Visual Desktop. Usually high throughput H264 provides less artifacts than AV1. Unless devs allows us for higher throughput for AV1, it's not a miracle yet.

I feel like AMD cards should be revisited now or a few months time. Their drivers have been a lot better than when rdna 3 launched and newly recent options like the 7800xt and 7900 GRE are considerations if you want that 16gb vram for vrchat and other vr titles. Even when running on desktop, my 7800xt with its 16gb vram saved me a lot of vram hassle in big worlds with lots of ppl in them since I just run the normal safety settings.

hey thanks for explaining the features specifically for vr, this is what i need! i'm still torn between 7600x am5 or 5800x3d, in 4k the performance looks similar even without the 3dcache on 7600x would that still be the case for vr? the build price is similar but i'm leaning towards am5 for future upgrade. i would love a 7800x3d but its out of my budget. my gpu choice is 3090 and i mainly only play skyrimvr.

maybe I'll save that for a future vid where I discuss my benchmarks. I can only say so much before I start to sound like I'm repeating myself, and my retention stats show that I can only keep the audience's attention for so long. Using a rx 7800xt 16gb, I have no problems but you are right, it can be in consistent with frames at times. Although it’s nothing insane. The new rtx 4070 ti super would probably be a good option if I wanted to get something under $1000 that has vr consistency and minimal driver issues.

I've seen someone run VRC on a 5800x3d and a 6950xt at a stable 90fps. Considering I can't even stay at a stable 45 fps with a 2080 super (8gb VRAM), that looks pretty good. Besides, AMD GPU driver issues are a thing of the past, at least for the 6000 series GPUs. they're still figuring out the 7000 series.

dont disagree with the build, just wish they'd enforce texture compression by default, block 4k textures or maybe theres a better solution. plus acknowledge that EAC actually reduced overall performance anywhere from 10% to 30%. people can optimize their avatars, theres tools to check your vram usage, overall package size and more.(Thryrallo's Avatar Performance Tools) though, most don't give a shit and think "oh its pc itll be fine" but their avatars are 200mb vram+ and they wonder why their game runs like swamp ass in hot july
@iconoclass Жыл бұрын
texture compression only reduces download size, not vram size. That's what I was saying that all textures of the same size take up the same amount of vram. Tupper explains this in the video update that screenshot is from. the only way to lower texture vram size is to lower the resolution (or maybe force the use of mipmaps, if VRC allowed it)
@moonoramaVR Жыл бұрын
EAC doesn’t cause any big performance drops. Certainly not 10% - 30%. Plus texture compression wouldn’t help, since the textures need to be uncompressed to be seen in VRChat. And yeah, optimized content does play a big in system performance. Take the opportunity to optimize whenever possible.
@underscoremavis Жыл бұрын
myself and other friends must be hallucinating about it then. they banned anyone in the vrc disc who mentioned it, shrug. mip maps would be good though, completely forgot about those since we cant have em. sounds like a better solution than 4k blocking. to be fair i couldnt think of another solution besides people manually downscaling their textures, buuut, we know a lot aren't gonna do that lols
