You should definitely revisit the amd cards because I've got a 7900xt paired with a 7800x3d and 64gb of ram link cable with quest 3 meta link app 90fps and the resolution slider all the way up to the top and i play a lot of vr and i can honestly say i max everything out and don't have a single problem with any game i play, I've got most of the driving games that are worth buying and they play just fine. I have another pc with an 3060 ti and an i7 12gen and apart from the 8gb of vram that plays pretty well i have to turn some things down on some games and use open composite for the steam games to save on resources but that is what it is i suppose, same with the gaming laptop thats got a gtx 1660 4gb with a i7 10gen and the only game i had problems with was into the radius, i use the software openvr-fsr app a lot on the laptop and have to do some tweaking but again it holds its own to say its only got 4gb of vram. AMD must have updated things pretty well because i don't experience any of the things that I hear people talking about when it comes to the VR, the 7900 xt has been a beast for me since I've had it. Also thanks for the video hope you all have a good one 😉

Even thoguh Meta's pcvr experience for quest headsets can be annoying, they still have such a great price point for entry into pc vr, and performance per dollar. They really won out the budget vr gaming side of things

I think that they focused way way way too much on weight and size, and not on comfort. If they had just did a slightly larger design, with an index type headstrap, they would have had a much nicer hmd.

Thanks for posting this! I was considering a Bigscreen Beyond, but had a difficult time finding any critical commentary about it. I'd caution against recommending the Meta Quest 3 though; the reason I was considering a Beyond was that I picked up a Q3 and was massively disappointed with the amount of depth it is able to convey (assumed to be due to reduced stereoscopic overlap), where far things just looked kinda-far but mostly just small, and things that looked GIGANTIC on the OG Vive just looked moderately big. A bit like the Q3 can only display a depth range of 40-60, where something like the Vive gives you 0-100. Maybe good-enough for people who have never seen 'real' VR, but absolutely a watered-down and disappointing experience that lacks the "oh holy crap I'm actually somewhere else" that VR can provide with a more capable headset. To be clear, I *love* just about everything else about the Q3. The software is SO GOOD. Hand-tracking is awesome. Resolution is amazing. But when an immense open vista stretching into the distance has all of the 'far' of a medium-sized garage... it falls flat. And is *constantly there* once you notice and have it 'click' in your mind why it looks so weirdly wrong. Now to borrow a Q2 and see if the same problem exists there.

If you're part of the discord, there are a lot of people that are in the same boat. People who just don't like it. I had to go through 3 headsets to get one that worked. And even then, the fan doesn't see to work. It fogs up all the time, and my eyes feel wet after playing for a little. The sweet spot is so small that moving my eyebrows up (something I now know I do all the time) will move the headset out of the sweet spot It's not comfortable even though that was the selling point even after I got the new audio strap. And speaking about the strap, it is a pain to put on and take off (I put the headset into its original box to keep it safe after play). The headphones pop off all the time.

Excellent video. I was sooo hyped for this headset and was so close to getting it but lack of eye tracking, foveated rendering, and small fov were too many compromises to make for a $1,000 price point. And then one of my friends that got one hated it and returned it for much the same reasons, I was surprised after all the good press I had heard about it. My only disagreement is with TAA upscaling. Every game I've used with TAA is a blurry undetailed mess because of it and that is amplified by VR. But that's just my take, thanks for sharing your experiences, I think I had already well and truly decided against it but was still interesting hearing about the other issues I wasn't aware of.

Watch the video called Fake Optimization in Modern Graphics (And How We Hope To Save It) by Threat Interactive: kzbin.info/www/bejne/onvYkHedeK2ZrpYsi=hHiuSjV6IWqX6uiN&t=684 It's super technical but it rightfully lambasts crappy TAA that is unfortunately more common than not. TAA can be implemented well as it states in its TAA design requisites. I stated upscaling as a priority simply because all rendering, including resolution and anti-aliasing, is a tradeoff between quality and performance on limited hardware. To get decent fidelity graphics on average VR headsets (Quest 2 and 3) still requires a lot of processing power, beyond what low end systems and standalone can provide; the Bigscreen Beyond is essentially 5k resolution, so PCs worth several thousand dollars are essentially a requirement to use not just it, but any VR headset near that resolution. Either upscaling (when available) or just playing at a lower res is still a tradeoff that many have to make. I also want it to be an option, not a requirement, so that those who have low powered machines can use it and those who don't want to use it don't have to.

@replacesoundboardАй бұрын
I've added some 3D printed soft strap mode to mine, and the back strap alone felt infinitely more comfortable. Then I added the top strap in halo mode and now I can choose how much pressure I want from the face gasket (whether or not I want a relatively tight fit depends on if I'm playing a VR game that requires moving a lot). Default straps are still bad, but I'm glad some people came up with tweaks that work. Problem is to either have a 3D printer or know someone who does.

So, I ended up making a purchase after having my far and close IPD measured at the optician. Interestingly, one eye is 0.5 mm closer than the other, but at least I could follow Bigscreen's recommendation and go with far IPD minus 1. And I must say, this is definitely NOT a headset for everyone. I'm satisfied, but I can certainly see why many people would not. If you're more used to wireless inside out with insanely huge field of view, this is not for you. I went from the OG Vive (with its thick foam cushion) to the Vive Pro (with the official thin leather cushion which greatly increased my field of view) to the Beyond. Field of view wise, I feel like I'm back to the OG Vive binocular vision. The moment I turn my eyes, it quickly gets blurry and if I go further I even get out of the field of view entirely. I can move my eyes about 30° up/down/left/right before it gets blurry, but I have to get used to moving my head even more than on the Vive Pro. Even if the Vive Pro had Fresnel lenses, I still got used to moving my eyes around a bit, because I could still see. There's a bit of glare (it appears as tiny white spots on the opposite side of the lenses when I'm checking something bright on a mostly dark screen). I feel like it's almost non-existent but many people seem to say it's horrible. I guess I'm just more tolerant to it because there was much more glare in the Vive Pro, which I also found acceptable. Brightness wise, I'm no longer burning my eyes like on the Vive Pro. I've set the Beyond's brightness to 50% and I feel like it's more than bright enough for my liking. The one thing I dislike is how the ventilation sounds like a constant humming sound when I'm wearing my IEMs. I had to reduce its speed down to 50-60% to make it more bearable whilst preventing the headset from overheating (although at first I set it to 40% which is the minimum and it still worked fine, but my eyes got dry if I forgot to drink water and blink more frequently).

your point on GPU instancing is wrong for 3 reasons 1) it should be same mesh and material 2) shader need to support this feature 3) srp batcher will be prefered by unity and should be disabled if you want GPU instancing. Advice is to open frame debugger and see what actually sent to gpu
@tatoforeverАй бұрын
Not totally correct. Unity will batch together meshes before sending them to the GPU for rendering using the same material (for BIRP) or same shader variants (for SRPs) whether GPU instancing is enabled or not. GPU Instancing will just instance the same mesh on the GPU. Worth mention that GPU instancing will disable SRP Batching and GPU instancing is not always good. If you are instancing couple of meshes, the cost of preparing and changing GPU state is higher than the actual instancing itself, bringing little no benefits at all. Use GPU instancing when rendering the same mesh more than 50 times. Otherwise sharing materials or shader variants is the best way to reduce drawcalls.

you can add it by package name but honestly the built in grid snapping has improved so just use that. you can make adjustments to it in settings to get it to function more like progrids, so you can quickly change the snapping scale.

I am happy to say that I have not had any of the issues with my Beyond that you have I will say however that I absolutely hated the way it felt with the elastic head strap Now that I have finally received the audio strap, my experience useing the headset is like night and day I feel that the headset should have shipped with the audio strap as it makes that big of a difference in comfort I can only hope that Bigscreen has learned from the release of this headset and makes the next one larger and more focused on the gaming segment of VR users

My number 1 complaint about VR in general is the white lens glare/god rays or whatever you want to call them ( or whatever the screen door). Trying to watch a movie in VR just makes it feel really low quality. For context I have the valve index since 2019. The image quality when watching a movie is actually quite crisp and clear, however, and this is a big however and that is the white lens glare will constantly hit you when the movie changes scenes and when you are watching an hour and half movie the scenes change all the time and just kills the immersion and quality of graphics. Every time I start watching a movie in VR I'm like this looks amazing! And I'm like this is really clean and high quality graphics and I tell myself why don't I do this more often its not as bad as I remember. And then after 30 minutes more or less I'll take the headset off and I'll watch the movie on my computer monitor and its easily 2-3x better looking then in vr and I get mad. Most games and most environments if you move your head too much the white lens glare will hit also. Certain games the white lens glare is not an issue but I have found its kind of rare. I have found that certain games have amazing graphics like in half life and a free game like time capsule arcade. And this is kind of my second complaint about VR is the game quality. A lot of games you buy are low graphic games but then you play a free game that was built in unreal engine 5 like the time capsule arcade and it looks insanely amazing and it becomes hard to go back to the other vr games.
@my3dviews2 ай бұрын
The quality of the lenses and comfort are just as important as the resolution. Maybe in the near future we will get something that is good at all of those at a reasonable price ($1000 or less).

as for your Beyond mic useage, this difference is because thrill is an audio expert as he was a DJ part time before he started his channel. mic quality is all user error and i belive you were being factitious in your presentation of that point as a beyond owner myself i get much much better performance out of the mic. I think you really need to brush up on your audio post processing skills.
@iconoclass2 ай бұрын
That was entirely my point, I wanted to present the mic without any audio post processing. Obviously I could have made the mic sound more professional but for the video I wanted to showcase what it sounds like out of the box, which is frankly how most people will use it.

If it had a custom fit and an adjustable IPD (even just a few inches of adjustment for a range of error) I think the headset would be a lot better. A larger sweetspot would also help but understandably that'd hurt the small form factor somewhat. Other than that, it's decent for what it is... Just not something I'd want to spend $1000 on.
@DerekIwasiuk2 ай бұрын
Same thoughts here, have had mine for half a year. Sent in for an IPD replacement (the app was just horribly off for measuring) While it's better, I still think I need to go down 1 mm as I have to push my left side of the headset to make it 100% like the right side is. The fan is loud, the unit is super hot always. I much prefer wearing my hp reverb 2 which cost me $500. I do sim racing, so the lighthouses don't reach that well so when i put the headset down I have to reset my position. The straps feel like crap even with the top one, the gasket doesn't breathe at all. The glare is the worst I've ever seen on a headset. I'll echo the support team is top notch. I'm past the return window so kinda stuck with it, family or friends can't really use it at all. Maybe I can get the slim gasket and it'll be better not sure. I keep thinking the lens is dirty but it's not, it's just the sweat spot is impossible to stay in. Why can't they make the IPD adjustable by like 3 mill, that would be amazing. Or make it so you can swap parts. Is it a completely different unit when I sent in?
