The Hobie is a great kayak. Wish I had the PA . The outback is a great all around yak . PA a little more heavier in weight and price well worth the money 💰 in my opinion. Great video!

Yep it was a tough decision for me, honestly! It came down to 3 things: 1) the weight, which would have made it really hard for me to car top a PA on my little Mini lol 2) the seat which honestly I just didn't love because the arm rests dug into my big ole hips, and 3) I had a surprisingly tough time getting over the H rails on the side to get in and out of the PA. I'm only 5'1", so I had to practically pole vault over them things!

Thanks Cynthia! what a great video, this is my dilemma exactly right now! I think the outback is the right fit for my needs but I can't get over how badass the PA12 looks as well as how full-featured it is. I want to get it right and not regret compromising. Your video offers some great perspective! Happy fishing!

Thanks so much for the comment! I will say, they’re both AWESOME boats, and if I was trailering (or even if I had been a truck owner then) I would likely have gone for the PA, but transport is a huge consideration. I do love my Outback a lot, and I’m very often relieved it’s not any heavier! It’s plenty of boat for my needs-and it handles waves like a complete champ, even in salt! Good luck with your decision-you can’t really go wrong either way!

Thanks for watching! I would also be happy to put my wide hips into a PA12, if I'm being honest :) :)

great comparison video. That pro angler is just enormous. Did you paddle the PA for any great distance? The outback is going to be much easier for you to transport. Congrats!!
@TheFishingMommy5 жыл бұрын
+Old Lady Angler thanks! Tomorrow is finally the maiden voyage!!! I didn’t paddle the PA very far but I could tell it takes some work to paddle. I’m The funny thing is, the Outback is actually 9” longer than the PA 12, but its now is shaped to cut the water better and it’s about an inch or two narrower. That makes a world of difference. And yes it’s downright easy to transport-even car topping it on a Mini Cooper!! 😂

Nice review. I am debating between these two. I really want the PA12, but the lighter more nimble Outback probably makes more sense for me. Thanks for mentioning how they paddle too. Most reviewers never mention it.

I have both kayaks and unfortunately I can only partially agree with you. The seat of the PA is significantly better, here I mean in particular the height, which allows me to have a pain-free 12-14 hour fishing day compared to the outback. However, in the high position the kayak is only suitable for fair weather. I also find rod rests much better on the PA. The Outback is once again ahead in terms of weight, speed and rough water suitability.

Several years later, and to be honest I’m still in love with my Outbacks (I’m on my second one), but my next kayak will be a PA 14 360XR rigged for tournament bass angling. But I’ll keep both my Outbacks too!
@cdrdmail28283 жыл бұрын
Good Choice. But I bought the PA12 360. Im 6' 100Kg and the PA serves me well standing and fighting with massive wakes. I need the massive deck space too. Both are stable in the calm water, but you will feel the difference when you are kayaking with a lot of boats around, especially going offshore. Indeed pedalling/paddling is easy on the outback, it's because PA is heavy that serves its stability. But with 360 system on new PA, this is the game changer where pedalling and manuevering goes easier than the standard PA.
@TheFishingMommy3 жыл бұрын
Ohhhh yeah for sure! My next kayak will be a PA12 360 as well but not until I can move to a location where where I can fish all year round. I just can’t justify the money given the short season (and very limited access) here in NY.

Great vid I’m in the same boat trying to make a decision even been looking at the oldtown but I like Hobie drive way better , I’m thinking more on the outback the PA looks ridiculously heavy well thanks again
@TheFishingMommy4 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris, thanks for the comment! For me, the mirage drive action works 1000X better than the bike motion of other pedal drives. I have an old knee injury, and my knee couldn’t take more than an hour or so of pedaling a bike style drive, but I routinely go 8+ hours in my Outback. I honestly LOVE the Outback! I’ve fished from a PA a few times and it’s a hell of a boat, but for me the Outback is just perfect.

Haha well, to be honest here I am years later & my Outback has served me well on many lakes, ponds, the Hudson River, grass flats in Florida, the Intracoastal waterway, and even the Atlantic Ocean! If I were to have another kayak too, I’d love to have a PA360 just for the incredible sideways pedaling, but otherwise I gotta say, the Outback has been perfect for me.

@TheFishingMommy4 жыл бұрын
Nope! I’m only 5’1”, and the drive itself adjusts. It goes from setting 1 (closest to the seat) to like 8 I think. I use the #3 setting because I’m short but I have very long legs and wear a 29” inseam. You should be fine!
