I feel like the corrupted Grail War itself is the greatest plot twist for magi society. When it's corrupted it's kind of funny because these high society magi go through an entire war, something way more than I think a typical magi is prepared for, they go through all this tribulation only to win and you find out from the beginning it was all for nothing and your wish is either not gonna happen or it's gonna be one hell of a monkey's paw. Risking death and worse all for nothing in the end. I've always loved Salter just because of the contrast when she's Shirou's servant constantly held back in every way possible and then she comes back corrupted and completely off the chain with how she should actually be at least in battle prowess.

If I remember correctly Deen/Stay Night was my first exposure to Fate. I know people didn't like it at the time but I really enjoyed it. A part I consider a plot twist is when Gilgamesh showed up. I knew nothing of Fate at the time so I didn't expect an 8th servant to show up and was equally surprised how easily Gil dominated Shiro and Saber. If the Fate route got a remake at some point I wonder if the same thing could happen again considering how popular Fate is now?

Meanwhile my first exposure was Fate/Extella. Getting into the series was incredibly cursed because the game both set completely wrong expectations for what the rest of the series is like, aswell as making inconsistencies between titles easier to swallow.(As in, I had no trouble understanding that Stay Night 06 is not literally the same world as in the anime I just watched and the one I was about to watch right afterwards, because I was already introduced to parallel timelines)

The west really liked Deen/Stay Night when it aired until the original VN got fully fan translated years later and they realized how far off script the adaptation went. Deen/Stay Night was also my first exposure to Fate so the VN was a real eye opener and the perfect primer for when Zero aired.

This whole thing with Diarmuid in Zero made me curious about his myth. I looked on google and I found two versions of the story: First one is where Fionn wanted a second wife after his first one died. He proposed to Grainne who was hailed as the most beautiful woman at the time, and she agreed. She met Diarmuid during the party and both of the fell inlove. Grainne wanted to elope with Diarmuid, and it took much convincing before he agreed. Fionn once realizing this, went in pursuit; less about his fiancé leaving him and more about Diarmuid betraying him. They went years on the run before Grainne got pregnant and they had to hide in a cave. They were apparently followed by a boar into the cave, and Diarmuid got severely wounded trying to protect his wife; but he killed the boar in the process. Fionn and his knights arrived soon after. Grainne begged Fionn to save Diarmuid. Fionn can apparently heal people by letting them drink from the palm of his hand. Fionn refused out of spite. His knight then urged him to help, but again he refused. After which Fionn's son Oisin insisted, and finally he relents. Unfortunately Diarmuid was dead at that point. The second one is where Fionn was feeling melancholic due to growing old, and outliving his wives. He asked his knights what he should do about it, and they told him to marry Grainne (for the same reason as the other version). He was shy about asking her due to their gap in age, so he had emissaries do it for him. Grainne thinking that the proposal was for her and Oisin , agreed. Once realizing she was actually marrying Fionn, she opted to back out. She spiked Fionn's drink, and once he's asleep, she started asking Oisin and the other knights if anyone would be willing to run away with her. Everyone refused her including Diarmuid. Probably out of desperation, she placed a geass on Diarmuid, which forced him to elope with her. Fionn similar to the other version, was mad about the betrayal and gave pursuit. Diarmund left pieces of fish as a signal to Fionn that nothing has happened between him and Grainne. But eventually after being chided by Grainne for his lack of "courage", Diarmuid gave in and stopped leaving fish. They evaded Fionn for years with the help of a god of love. Fast forward, and Diarmuid and Grainne now has 4 kids, so they decided to make amends. Fionn, more or less forgives them and accepts them back. Fast forward a bit more and Fionn issued a hunt for a boar terrorizing his lands, Diarmuid came along with his weaker short sword and spear. Unfortunately Diarmuid was under another geass, and the boar was actually a reincarnation of a kid his father accidentally killed; so Diarmuid cannot pierce its skin. After beating the boar to death with the blunt side of his weapons, Diarmuid was severely wounded. Fionn immediately went to fetch water to heal his friend, but on his way back was reminded of Diarmuid's betrayal, and the water slipped away. He tried again but the same thing happened. He succeeded at the third attempt by reminding himself of the good times they had, but Diarmuid was dead at that point. I'm not really sure which version Fate used, but I personally liked the second one.

Waver was amazing on Zero. One of my favorite moments was when his teacher was calling him crap but Iskandar went all proud of him and declared his master was who he has accepted because he, unlike with Diarmud, dared to stand in the battle at his side. Even Gilgamesh grew some respect for Waver when he saw he accompanied Iskandar not as his master, but as his loyal subject.

I love the twist of the grail being corrupted as it sustains itself on human thoughts, desires and wishes which also lends it the power to screw the rules because it responds to longings more than logic, proving that the characters with the strongest thoughts are the crazy bad ones. The protagonists have to get lucky when the grand prize is trying to gift itself to the baddest baddies before the game starts. 😄

Awesome video I have the unpopular opinion that even Gilgamesh knew that he couldn't kill the monster Gilles summoned via clairvoyance in Fate/Zero and gave that responsibility to Saber. Afterall, Excalibur does surpass Ea at least in regards to its functionality for killing monsters or world threatening things, that's its specialty. Kind of like the whole situation with Excalibur being the only NP being able to kill Sefar. The monster Gilles summoned is highly underrated, the thing was literally a Cthulhu, if you ever studied Cthulhu, they are Outerversal even as a concept; lowly creature or not. I thought that's why Gil seemed so impressed and even praised her a bit, telling Iskandar as well. I could be wrong but that's what I got from it, Prelati's spellbook and all specialized in that sort of thing. Not to mention that the higher tier outer gods aren't any lower than outerversal+ in the current cosmology of the nasuverse so this one that Gilles summoned was probably lower but not lower than low outerversal. Just my hot take.

It was mentioned that one sword from GoB, which is "Gram", is equal to the power of the strongest holy sword, "Excalibur". Then we have "Merodach", which is the prototype of "Gram". According to what was mentioned in the FSN visual novel, the prototypes are stronger than the replicas. Therefore, "Merodach" is stronger than Exceller. In short, Gilgamesh was able to defeat Gilles monster easily and without even having to use Ea It was never mentioned that "Excliper surpass Ea", on the contrary, all sources say that Ea is stronger than the unsealed Excliper (sources such as FGO-law of creation and Fate strange fake) Exclibur is not the only NP capable of killing Sefar. Gil mentioned in Extella that Ea is capable of defeating Sefar in the final stage. Also, Sefar did not fight Mesopotamian gods in the first place. They're not equal by any means when one or more seals is used and Merodach had no way of fully destroying Gilles monster because it is identical to Caliburn in power. F/SN & FGO Artoria both have seals, so it really isn't different from prototype version of Excalibur either, that whole thing has been retconned. I think the point of my comment at the time was to say that Excalibur is the strongest even over Ea vs invading threats because it scales with its niche use of defending the planet at all costs. Also, in LB7 it took a juiced up version of Excalibur mounted on the Storm Border to even begin to do damage to ORT. That's something Ea could never do. I will say that Ea in terms of overall destruction can probably go as far as reaching several textures in the world but not destroying the Reverse Side of the World which is still something Excalibur can never do. If you study the cosmology of the Nasuverse even without the counter-force restrictions it wouldn't be able to reach that deep. When we are discussing direct attack potency of Ea vs unsealed Excalibur, Excalibur is much stronger. Since we know Avalon is the realm of the soul and not unconsciousness like a reality marble which Ea is specialized in destroying, that's much deeper than what Ea or the Five True Magics can reach. So that statement of destroying the world seven times is really just saying the outer-most layers up to or maybe the linch-pin, Rhongomyniad but not beyond. Main takeaway is that because Avalon/Reverse Side of the World is the domain of the soul, it surpasses consciousness, subconsciousness, unconsciousness, it’s metaphysical and is not affected by something capable of destroying time-space, physical matter, energy and potentially even thoughts outside of awareness. The plottwists and larger developments were honestly some of the best parts of these animes(Context being that I am an anime only who went through these titles in chronological and route-order, so Zero to Stay Night 06 to UBW. And eventually the older UBW movie as a bonus). Archer and Shirou, Shirou having avalon, the huge shifts in dynamics in Zero that move at a rapic pace...it's just pretty good. I eventually stopped following because of getting overly stressed over the fanbase being sorta obnoxious about certain things and it being pretty inconsistent on if I liked a bit of content from the series, but I think I should get back into it as I was a bit too emotional, probably from getting into it with scuffed expectations and binging every animated content available at the time. I think I will watch Heavens Feel sooner rather than later because it is the one thing I am still current missing mainline. Well, besides the fateroute anime I obviously can't watch because it still doesn't exist yet.(Which sucks. I know there are no new reveals in there left for me, but I would still like to watch it. Ufotable, plz.)
