We're the Russos When are you gonna let your batteries go down to around 11.2v (or possibly lower), so you can see when the Volt Start kicks in? I'd love to see how that particular Hymer proprietary system works! 🤓👌

judy hobday I lost my husband 4 years ago and feel the same.... and I think I'm going to do it on my own. I've got 7.5 years until retirement and I'm saving up. I don't think I just want to sit here bored until time to join him.

Try to get on travel weekends earlier if you can! I always say to people, if you want to do something, at least try to make it happen. I'm only 24 but I try to live by this saying because you'll only regret things later. And who says I'll make it until retirement. Just my two cents..

I retired last July and just purchased a 2018 Aktiv 2.0 in order to tour the country with friends and family (especially my grandchildren) and to stay in a warmer climate during the winter when I want to escape the snow and cold. I feel that it will be pretty manageable for me to handle the Aktiv alone as a single 62 yo woman because it is incredibly self-contained. It is very easy to drive compared with larger RVs. I love the idea of the cassette toilet rather than needing to empty a tank which can require some strength. Speaking of strength, I can put the spare tire down okay but I cannot raise it without someone to help me. If I am completely alone, I will have to leave that door closed and the back screen won't be usable. But if I am traveling with someone it won't be an issue with extra help. I bought the model with the power sofa because it seats 7 which seemed more versatile when traveling with family to a resort or on a non-camping, road trip. I didn't get the loft and maybe I will regret that. I won't full time RV because I live on a lake which I want to enjoy in the summer. My Aktiv can serve as a guest cottage when I am home! I love camping so I will get out to do that whenever I feel like it. I am a little nervous about a break down or something malfunctioning when I am on the road but I am pretty handy and I am sure I will learn along the way. As Nils Bijlsma said, you could regret things you didn't at least try to do later on.

The funny thing is, that we in Germany have nearly the same cars called "Kastenwagen" and they are very popular because of the "small" size, fitting much better to our narrow streets. One of the main differences is, that all of these vans are only available with a diesel engine because of the much better mileage per gallon. So best greetings from good old Europe and thanks for your work and the videos.
@orcaflotta78677 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: Hymer is a German company, that's why they are so nifty and economical with space usage and have such good build quality. Is a bit like a posh Westfalia. :)
@bikeinmotion7 жыл бұрын
This one is basically a mix between the Hymercar Grand Canyon and the Hymercar Sierra Nevada with some US specific adjustements
@berndschleicher9027 жыл бұрын
Thats right, the production costs of a diesel engine is higher, because of the much higher working pressure inside the engine. My camper van, wich looks nearly the same than yours (its the same chassis) came with a 2.3 Liter 4 cylinder diesel engine. The diesel consumption is around 8 Liter for 100 Kilometer wich is nearly 35 MPG. And the maintenance is every 40.000 km (around 24850 miles) or every two years.

You'll love the Truma Combi, it's so quick to heat the space up. The propane really cranks the heat up; the electric is less powerful, but in a small space, you may not notice it (I do in my 16-foot trailer).

That is awesome van! We have a Phoenix cruiser B+ . We love it. Next summer will be the big test. The best things..... those drawers and the slow close on them.... plenty of room... I know some could not do it. I could. I have been in smaller. I think you said you have lithium batteries. I want them and solar. I do not belong to a gym so I would have to use the shower, or lose jane, she would not put up with me. Some people think , how can you get along together is such a small place. That’s where friendship comes in. I am lucky to be with my best friend. I don’t need anyone else. One of the best things you have that I do not is Leo. We miss our dogs. We love dogs. But just have not found the right one since our doggies passed. Which was one of the hardest days of my life. I was a singer in bands for years, plus other things. So since I started playing guitar 15 months ago , I would need room for that . ( not to good yet)... I want those lithium batteries so bad. We are true boondock people. Our Phoenix cruiser is 28.4 ft. So far so good. It has bunks in either side for sleeping. If you do ever get to surf in our drive way you can fill me in on lithium. One more month till our house is fixed from the flood....stay in touch. Life with Ken and Jane . Lake Havasu Az

I just had to comment to let you know what an excellent review you did on this vehicle. I have watched several other videos about this particular vehicle and they all use that fish eye lens so you really can't get a good perspective of how large or small something is. if I went to a dealership based on those videos I would be disappointed in everything I saw. But your video clearly shows the size of each area. Now I can make a more acurate judgement, and know what to expect. and I know this is want.

Thank you for the very through tour of your beautiful RV. Very well thought out! Handsome dog. What a great companion and also a good guard dog! I was sooo thrilled to see you are using a Berkey, the Verrry best filtration system you can get for "pure" drinking water. My hubby and I use the Berkey sports bottle to assure that we have clean pure water while traveling, especially when flying as we can fill it up after going through TSA check and be assured of clean "pure" water. Also, was elated to see all of the beautiful organic produce in your refrigerator. Organic is the ONLY way to go to stay healthy and safe from GMO's, and pesticides. That is exactly how we eat! Looks like you may be vegan as I didn't see a bunch of processed food which is soooo unhealthy and full of sugar and chemicals! You also seemed very relaxed which is so important for good health! You folks are on the road to a healthy, disease free life. Soooo happy for you!!!! Keep up the good healthy relaxed life!! Blessings to you two!!!

Pretty decent set up. However I'm not convinced on the Roadmaster (specifically the front drive). My neighbor has one for his plumbing business and @ 65,000 miles started having transmission issues. Over the last 20k the trans has been rebuilt/replaced twice. He has no where near the weight that a conversion has nor does he drive it hard. After going through this experience he's found others with similar stories. Hopefully this is an uncommon problem. I wish the Sprinter came with a gasoline option AND a larger maintenance network! First World problems I guess.

I like it Joe. If Hymer built those on the Ford E350 with 3.5 Ecoboost engine, wow, you'd have the power! That engine thrives in the mountains. The cassette toilet: to me that seems like a great idea. Can empty almost anywhere and not be tied to full hookup. Right now, I really need to empty black tank, but no place where I'm staying! If I had that, I could just bring inside and flush down toilet, plus could make grey tank double size! Hmmmm, wonder if I can retrofit our trailer with a cassette toilet? Oh me, I'm 6'2", so Hymer wouldn't work for me!

Thanks for the tour! I've watching for a while and love your videos. I've been plotting and planning our full time travel for years and as we get nearer to the date (maybe 2019), my search for our perfect van has gone into full gear. Appreciate you going into so much detail - my partner and I are full time web designers, so one of my biggest concerns is making sure we both have space to work. That's one reason I'm considering a back area for working that also converts into a bed. But you've given me something else to think about with having a permanent bed. So many variables to think about. Keep up the good work :)
@Weretherussos7 жыл бұрын
You've very welcome and glad you enjoyed it. The back areas with the convertible couch are nice, but having to make the bed each night if you want to use that area to work would get old for us...plus what happens if one wants to work and the other wants to sleep?
@shelleykayart7 жыл бұрын
I thought about that ... I get up early and thought I'd move to the front of the van, swivel the seat and work there (with maybe a built in laptop tray ). We actually need 2 work areas as we've discovered we need some space from each so we don't get distracted. I'm planning on utilizing some sort of curtain or divider so we can't see each other and we both wear headphones. Fortunately, we've already started downsizing and are down to 800 sq. ft., so we've had to start figuring out how we can both work together all day in a small space :) I love seeing how others tackle this challenge and your videos have been so helpful in thinking this through.
@Weretherussos7 жыл бұрын
My best suggestion is try to take some time off when you get started. I know it's hard to impossible if/when you run your own company but it's hard enough to adjust living in a van without adding in the stress of work.

Won't the spare tire cover get scratched when you have it down to the ground when accessing the left door or do you place a rag or something for protection? Thanks for the great videos! I'm actually checking out an Aktiv 1.0 but the extra foot might be a really good idea.. Also, with the 1.0 front door overlapping the right rear window, wouldn't that be risk of damaging the window when open and someone opens the front sliding door?

Thanks for the tour. But I have to agree with Golembeski that the spare tire should have been mounted on the door . I'd trip over it getting out of the back, and I'm one of those people who would leave the back doors open. I would love a B class van but the cost is too much. Also it looked like the gray water cover was flimsy and will probably break off after a year of use if it lasts that long. Then there is the wet bath. I hate wet baths. So I guess for now I'll stick with my 14' trailer. I have more room than you do but it would be nice to go and not have to tow a trailer. The way that back door is set up it would also be hard to put a bike rack. I think I like the van FitRV has better can't remember the brand. I'd replace the microwave with a toaster oven and get rid of the TV.

Great video, well done overview of the van. You did however not note that you don't use the cassette toilet fully. Personally I love this van, but not the cassette toilet. Not popular in North America where we have dump sites. Reviews on cassette toilets I have seen are quite negative, so hope to see Hymer offer a full RV toilet soon. Still, a great rig!
@thomasbarr93307 жыл бұрын
Gordon Ruth I have the 1.0 and we went to Alaska this year. We have used the cassette for both when needed and it works fine. It is not a big problem to clean out. It really provides more flexibility than I had with my black water tank in my previous class c. I originally thought the cassette was going to be a problem, but after using it I actually prefer it over a black water tank because I can empty it into a toilet in addition to using a dump station. The fit RV review was not really fair or representative of my experience.

Aude Khatru - They already do, the Winnebago Paseo and the Coachmen Crossfit. You could also design your own through Sportsmobile or Outside Vans, if you have the $$$ and the time.

Thanks, I have looked at all three. My goal is to go with something from Sportsmobile. Neither the Paseo nor the Crossfit has a long enough bed. Wait...you mentioned a fourth, so thank you again, I will check out Outside Vans. Sportsmobile has more than one option for a queen length bed, which is a full 80" long, despite what some RV manufacturers call Queen size. Also, the Crossfit is only 6'3" on the inside. I really do wonder how they lost 5" in putting in a ceiling and floor (Paseo is 6"5" inside). Oh, and I was specifically wondering if Hymer might do a Transit based van. I feel sure that Hymer started with the Promaster because they are already familiar with the Ducato van. All the same parts should fit. As far as I can tell, none of the European RV manufacturers do Campervans on a Transit, though that really wouldn't help me much if they did. Thanks for one more place to look.

Aude Khatru - Looks like you will need the high top extended length Transit. Took a tour at Sportsmobile factory in Fresno, CA and it was a lot of fun. Outside Vans' website shows one hightop Nissan van, but I don't think that they have the option of extended length. Outside Vans' styling is very modern and sleek. Good luck!

You keep yours so clean. I also have battery envy. I have an Airstream Interstate and I can barely go a day before having to use the generator.

That was a great tour. I cannot believe how much is packed into that space. Stay safe.

We are purchasing a 2017 Roadtrek Zion and also has two 200 litium power modules. Can you talk a bit about how well these batteries have performed in relation to your power needs? Are you able to run fridge all the time? Have you run the AC with them? Do you have the volt start and if so has it worked well?

Hey Michael, we talk about the batteries and power usage in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnWoYWd5Z6qCp8U

You say the bed is 75" side to side, is this true? I thought the promaster interior was 73" wide metal to metal?

I love this Hymer Activ but I’m single and would be traveling with a friend and we will both need our own beds. Also I’m 5”6 and need to stretch out and want to be able to offer my friend the bed in the back.

We are interested in the screens on the back and side doors. Where would we find information on those? Thank you so much for sharing your story and information!

Great tour! Better than most "professional" tours. Thanks so much. The van looks pretty good, but honestly, for long term living it is a bit on the small side. And that rear tire pull down is a joke. Hope things are not too smokey for you in OR right now. Stay safe!

Thanks Margery - we stayed on the coast so we didn't get the smoke.

Love your informative videos! Lots of info and makes me want to start planning!!! I retire in 3 months, but dont have the option of going full time as I have a son in the 10 grade, so we have a couple more years before he goes to college.
