For those considering a vegan lifestyle because you’re a compassionate person but don't really know where to start? No worries, I’ve got your back. Figuring out what to eat after ditching meat and dairy can be a total maze, even if you weren’t that picky about your diet before. If you’re Indian, you’re already kinda used to a plant-based diet, so it’s mostly about swapping out dairy. If you want to skip supporting the dairy industry and not blow your budget, start with a simple, low-cost meal plan that’s still super nutritious. Just collect all the healthy dishes you like, and we’ll go from there. First up, let’s chat about two must-have nutrients: Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D3. If you’re not getting outside for at least 25-30 minutes a few times a week, you might end up with a Vitamin D3 deficiency. Even people who eat meat have a tough time getting enough Vitamin D from food alone-often less than 15 percent. So, either grab a supplement once a week or get outside more. For Vitamin B12, you can go for shots (I do this every other month) or take a pill once a week. It’s safe and natural. Just be careful with fat-soluble vitamins like Vitamin D-better to check in with your doc for the right dose. B12 is usually fine, though. You could also take a multivitamin like Axbex or Zincovit-just pop one, and you’re set. This is clutch for busy folks like pre-med students or anyone with a hectic schedule. Here’s the food that works for us at home-these are our go-to staples. Protein sources- Chickpeas Soy chunks (this is cheap and healthy..and has anti cancer properties..well anything soy has anti cancer properties except for soy bean oil) Tofu Soybean Beans like kidney beans or mung bean Lentils (a mix of lentils) Quinoa (quinoa is cheap.. and very healthy..) Amaranth (i buy muesli from peepal farm) Millets (Indians love millet..these are not particularly high in protein but they're amazing) Chia seeds (not just protein but amazing fats as well...but be sure to soak em) Flax seeds (these are literally superfoods..) Green peas Hemp seeds (we don't use it but they're really good) Tempeh (i don't have access to these but again ... they're so good) Legumes or Pulses in general are so good for you.. Nuts and seeds (amazing protein and fats .) Greens - Cabbage/cauliflower/brocoli/Brussel sprouts (if available) Leafy greens like spinach or kale Beet root Carrots Cucumber Amla (it's a fruit but they're the best. Period) Bell pepper 🫑 Bitter gourd And the list goes on and on.. Be sure to eat regional vegetabls cuz India is pretty diverse ...so eat your greens..and go local ... Peanut butter (peepal farm) Try to incorporate more colour into your food ....or maybe give permaculture ... Or give permaculture a shot if you have the time..and space.. Dishes i eat.. Dosa (this is my fave ) Lentil curry with rice Rajma chawal Idli sambhar Indian version of chilli (that has chickpeas , rajma , ground soy chunks , carrots , bell pepper, 🍅 tomatoes, etc) Yellow pea chat Litti chokha Soy bean biryani Soy bean ki sabzi (i eat lil to no oil) Chana masala (chickpea curry) Oat porridge with apples and bananas and chia seed on top Indian version of chilli (that has soy chunks , Pinto beans or white rajma , chickpeas , bell pepper 🫑, carrots , onion and garlic 🧄, indian spices, some soy sauce, tomato puree..and a bunch of other healthy ingredient..this can double as bhaji for pav bhaji) Quinoa oat cinnamon banana porridge without any milk.. you could add some chia or nuts of your choice.. Black mung daal seasoned with salt South Indian style besan tofu sauted in curry leaves and mustard seeds with sauce.. Chola chana chaat with aloo ki tikki .. (we make it bland cuz we like it bland..) Flax seed and jaggery dumplings Red lentil uttapam Yellow pea chat (Quinoa+daliya+millet+rice) mung bean khichdi with added veggies Daal Dhokla Pakal tofu paneer Mushroom biryani Oat dense chocolate fudge cake (dessert 😁) Mix veg soy bean sabzi (quite runny....pretty similar to a soup.. but very tasty.. i like bland stuff ) High protein muesli ... Tofu scramble (we eat homemade tofu.. ) Whole mung daal with lime juice squeezed on top and some diced onion..(with roti) Quinoa raita with (peanuts+cabbage+carrot+apples) and other tempering We use homemade soy yogurt because I’m not big on store-bought or convenience foods, unless I’m really starving. These are the dishes I grew up with, so you might do things a bit differently. Make a list of essentials that work for you. I make sure to eat at least two protein-rich dishes each day-like chana masala in the morning and khichdi for lunch or dinner.

@@scienceislove2014 so I found out recently Im b12 deficient despite eating a lot of b12 containing foods. It explains to me why I wasnt able to sustain a vegan diet even while supplementing though. Taking a pill will not work when you are unable to absorb b12 that you ingest orally. Taking a shot like you do will, but Ive also heard there are b12 supplements you can take under the tongue. Im getting shots now but now that I know this Im thinking of giving plant based eating another try.

Misinterpretation at its finest! What do you think the term "mostly-vegetarian" mean? Meat isn't as prevalent in our diet. Infact, our gut microbiome is more suited to a high fibre diet than that of a westerner! I remember eating a plant predominant diet prior to going vegan (partly becuz my mum's vegan and vegetarian food's cheaper) with some dairy thrown in between. Even the most carnivorous people didn't eat meat for every meal of the day..

But the people that aren't conscious about protein intake such as normies, tend to undereat them (like less than 0.5g per pound of bodyweight. That's my observation.

I do not get the hype about this Bryan individual. He does not look even a little younger than his actual age to me and when he shows before and after pictures of himself when he began this journey, I think his face looked far more attractive and youthful in the before pictures. I would describe Bryan as someone who looks very healthy for his age resulting probably from proper diet, sleep and exercise which most people do not choose to implement for themselves but the primary tell for me of his actual age is fat/collagen loss in his facial structure which may not be being best served with his choice of a vegan diet that is serving him in other ways. I have a similar face structure to Bryan and on a strict vegan diet my body and skin color/tone looked incredible too but I had similar issues with accelerated fat/collagen loss showing particularly in my facial structure. Definitely I felt great and got a lot of compliments for my clear skin and bright eyes and hair etc but the fat/collagen issue in the face is a major tell for age and Bryan, in my opinion, has not done anything special to address it for himself.

Why get your protein from veggies with all the antinutrients when you can get the REAL protein from meat?

I think it's because he's focused on longevity and many peer reviewed researches have pointed out that in terms of longevity a plant based diet is superior. I think what he means to say is protein isn't an end in itself, it's what it will achieve that you want to focus on. And he's quite clear about that, he wants to prove that you can live longer through his blueprint

Lol no one is deficient in protein. There is no lab test indicating a protein deficiency. Protein primarily supports growth, with the most significant growth occurring during infancy. The preferred food for newborns is breast milk, which provides less than 4% of its calories from protein. Additionally, the Papua New Guinea highlanders, who consume a diet mainly consisting of sweet potatoes (which contain less than 4% protein), are fit, strong, and muscular. Please stop spreading lies that people need more protein. In fact, excess protein can accelerate aging. If you have any credible test reports showing protein deficiency please share. Protein deficiency is not possible in any naturally occurring diet; it only occurs in cases of severe starvation.

@@streetrossi4966 I can't find any studies showing any protein deficiency. If you found any please share. Excess protein leads to kidneys being overworked as they need to neutrolize the acid from the protein. Excess protein also leads to activation of mtor which is very bad and huge risk factor for ageing. We reach the hayflick limit much faster which leads to reduction in life span if the body consumes excess protein due to accelerated cell replication.

@@streetrossi4966 I think not everyone in the world are athletes right ? Athletes definitely need more energy n muscle mass for achieving thr extra mile . Why does everyone need that much in first place? This protein craziness started after 2000 only . Before that ppl were healthy and had normal good foods without thinking that need to add this much protein, vitamin c , k , d , b12 in foods everyday . No one thought like this in our parents generation . They ensured they eat everything in moderate and remain healthy that's all . If someone needs to build muscle mass , they can go ahead and eat as much protein they need . Now we have stores opened exclusively in cities for protein supplements for gym goers and athletes . Everything in that is artificial but thr is a big demand for that ppl flock to buy thr favorite flavor to easily meet thr daily requirements thru synthetic vitamin supplements.
