Help you a lot, how - exactly? You're carrying a ton of weight and a battery pack, so it's lucky you have electric skates - but you only have that weight, because you're wearing electric skates. Unless you're planning a long-distance commute or road-trip - and you don't want to do much of any other meaningful skating when you get there or on the way - how exactly are these going to, "help", you? Help you do, what?

Fun fact : these skates are inspired by the manga Air Gear and a lot of the features really remind me of it (which is a good thing imo). Honestly I can really see these as a great "skating around" accessory : the fact that the motors engage only with the remote means that you can use them only to assist when going up a steep hill for instance, and skate normally the rest of the time. I can't afford them sadly but I'm already very curious of what the next iterations will bring ! Maybe they will even create their own category of skating in the future, who knows !

I really appreciate your point of view and share it completely: as a geek, already owning an e bike, onewheel, electric mountainboard, those electric versions of existing vehicles give a new experience and may also help newcomers or people who else wouldnt be able to join the stoke. I am now confident enough to cruise on a traditional longboard. The electric skateboards with their integrated brakes allowed me to gain enough training for balance and confidence. I can see the same for electric rollerblades where the integrated brakes could help people gain confidence.

@@kingsilver1610 🔥 🔥🔥. Can you see yourself doing some Transitions or hitting some ramps with this model? The true dream is when we get room temperature superconductors. Then we can ditch the big battery. At 50 mph we would be able to get to wallride almost indefinitely. Not straight up but sideways. The possibilities are endless, then all we will need is the skill to match.

These seems cool appreciate the R&D that went into it. Especially figuring out the battery issue earlier on. But maybe in the near future we have more efficient battery storage in a small compartment for use in longer sessions. Like you may e see in certain anime shows were they were used. Skating is still a learning skill set.

Good shit, fam. Yeah... tbh I'm not sure the US is the best place for these since we don't have many walkable/skateable cities, and really I don't see the concept truly coming into it's own until we have solid state batteries, BUT... I do love that this dude is already on it, and as SS battery tech becomes available he's already got such an incredible head start. Really this system with 1-2 battery wheels and a bluetooth remote would be perfect.

@DeezSkates 14 күн бұрын
I totally hear you on the issue of US cities being less “skate-able”. You’re right and it’s really centralized to the bigger cities where lots of concrete exists outside of just roads to drive on. Also, believe the battery tech will improve over the years and I think for what is currently available, this is such a cool thing to have in the market.

I have switch skates between 110s and 90s to go from aggressive to cruising skates with my kids. I bet the weight difference is about the same between those skates and the electric ones. I will hit the park with the aggressive style but switch them back for pushing a stroller or skating with my kids when they are on their bikes/scooters. I would prefer to have two dedicated skate systems so I don't have to swap out so this system would be a great addition. I worry about the price point though.

Unfortunately I don't like triskates with short wheelbase... Do you need that frame or can you put the motor wheel on any 110 or 125? I might try them even though I am annoyed by all the electric scooters and bicycles 🙄 But I wanna train to get my 25 km/h average back for marathon distance, these won't help 😅 Guess I rather buy new wheels... The thing people should be coming up with instead of electrification is an actual set of brakes for skates ! It's ridiculous that other sports like bicycles have actual brakes while on inlines braking at high speed is extremely technical and dangerous. There just isn't a good way to suddenly brake when going downhill without reading the situation far ahead and that's a substantial handicap. Furthermore it would be nice to lock the wheels for walking the stairs on skates.
@DeezSkates
@DeezSkates 10 күн бұрын
Well, these skates do have a braking system that feels similar to what a bicycle brake feels like. Though the brake is electric in these. Powerslide also manufactures a mechanical version of this sort of thing, essentially a braking by applying even pressure to the wheels. Look up the “Powerslide Synchro Brake.” It works by distributing weight into the back of the cuff. It’s currently on the market.
@albondar
@albondar 10 күн бұрын
@@DeezSkates I checked it out but this seems like another variation of the heel brake which (a) does nothing down a steep hill and only is outfitted on one foot (making it almost dangerous on slopes) and (b) irritating for crossovers. There should be a part at the level of the bearing that locks them up from free spinning that does not interfere with crossovers.
@DeezSkates
@DeezSkates 10 күн бұрын
Well, we could probably talk engineering possibilities all day and it would get pretty interesting, but I think you should maybe take another look at the Synchro brake. It’s definitely NOT a variation of the heel brake. The heel break doesn’t work effectively because it is relying on ground drag. Whereas the synchro brake uses pressure along the wheel to slow the role. It’s significantly more effective.. and I don’t think a bearing drag mechanism would work well because the closer you get to the inside of the wheel, the less effect the braking pressure will have. That’s why cable brakes on bikes apply the pads the metal rim next to the tire, rather than the center point where the wheel spins.
@albondar
@albondar 10 күн бұрын
@@DeezSkates Good points and discussion. Apparently they have disc brakes in bikes (but I was thinking car wheels instead --- rotors are good deal smaller compared to tire) and the opinion seems to be actually better performance than rim brakes. But I realize rubbing on the bearing is delicate balance between braking and destroying the bearing altogether...
@DeezSkates
@DeezSkates 10 күн бұрын
Indeed. But you’re right. The industry has lagged on creating a more effective replacement to the traditional heel brake. The emphasis on beginner safety in urban skating has endless value alone. We have to keep reminding the companies we buy from what we want to see. Thanks for chatting with me! It’s always great to hear from others who love to skate!

I think that the divide here is that while it’s true you’d be burning fewer calories using electric skates, that worldview is dependent on the idea that electric skates are going to completely replace skating as it exists now. I don’t believe that’s likely to happen. It seems more likely that the progression and adoption of electric technology into skating just makes for a specific user experience that is simply an addition to all the possible parts of skating as a blanket whole. If we go down this path of saying that the electric skate will remove the fitness element from skating then it could be argued that it’s pointless to even start skating because as a beginner you’ll burn fewer calories than an advanced skater. Or that there’s no merit to being a recreational inline skater because just showing up for a casual skate with friends a couple of times a week will be nothing in terms of fitness compared to a professional figure skater who is lifting weights, doing calisthenics, taking ballet, and training endurance in their program on the ice daily. The element of fitness is subjective to what each user wants from their equipment, their overall skill level, and how much effort they put into the experience. If you just stand straight up on your skates and go forward for 10 miles… sure. You’ll probably not burn much. If you get into a proper skating position and steer the skates properly for ten miles, I bet you’d be exhausted because you’re constantly lunging and shifting your stances around. We don’t have to be constantly executing a forward stride in order for skating to be a stress inducing experience on the muscles. 💪
