Nice vid Pipp. This should help a lot of folks looking to get a solid reamp box. Also huge shout-out to Slammin Mofo at The Gear Page for getting the ball rolling on the "High Quality Reamp Box" thread.

cool video Phil, I was talking to Tudor Adrian on this, I also own a P-split III but the irony of having an expensive audio interface (RME Babyface PRO) is that I don't have a suitable line output to do this 😄 i think other more affordable audio interfaces have better line output connectivity, but that's the only complaint i have with the interface, on everything else it's absolutely amazing (particularly low latency and stability) there was definitely a bit more hair/presence to the P-Split, i can see why you'd be using this now if only i had the proper line output 😄 seems almost counterproductive buying a cheaper interface just for doing reamps, but i really like how the Palmer Trave is working out in any case

To be honest - there was no necessity to upgrade from the Palmer DACAPPO to the P-Split, since my captures turned out nonetheless great. But my OCD-mind did not give me any rest, so I had to go with it. It's just nice that I now have full peace of mind 🙂 Thanks for the kind words!

Could you explain me how to set up tracks into reaper. I'm noob with this kind of topic. I would like to use my amps into clarett pre 2+ in your way.

What about the Undertone Audio Satellite? ThornWithin compared this with the Lehle P-Split III and seemed think the UTA Satellite was more accurate for modeling.

I have no chance to test a UTA so far so that is unfortunately completely out of my reach. They do seem to be pretty good as well. Eventually I should reach out to them for a loaner device for a comparison...? But for what it is, the P-Split III is a great unit. 1:1 winding ratio, linear frequency response, ground lift, high input impedance, low output impedance - does a great job, on par with the 400$ Replay Box by United Tech Studios, which is heralded as one of the best ReAmp boxes there is.

I'm not quite getting it? Reamp? I get that it works as a DI-box when for example recording both dry and wet. But the reamp part? Will it also convert a line signal to instrument level when using line out from the daw/audio interface, so I then can pass the recorded dry signal thru my gear to rerecord another wet track?

The appeal of reamping is to be able to change the tone after the recording, so you do not have to commit. Line and Instrument level are not all too far apart, there is in fact little in regard of standardization when it comes to instrument level. The way I view it is as following: I want to make sure that playing through my interface and reamping, I get the same volume as if I would be playing through the actual gear, so I make sure that my audio interface adds no gain to the signal. On my interface, when I keep everything consistent at 0 dB - both input gain and output gain - I achieve exactly that. So in theory, I could now just go out of my interface into my amp, without losing any of the "signal strength". However, this will lead to ground-loops. Now comes the ReAmp Box. The ReAmp Box has two jobs: lifting the ground and making sure signal integrity is kept. Lifting the ground is simple - use a transformer. Keeping signal integrity needs two things: High input impedance and optimally a winding ratio of 1:1 Depending on the ratio of the windings of primary vs. secondary side of the transformer inside the ReAmp-Box, my signal will be degraded - on the Palmer DACAPPO, this is 3:1, so, oversimplified, I will only get a third of signal strength out of the DACAPPO compared to what I put in. In theory, you can compensate this by boosting the signal by 4.77dB going out of the interface. For ReAmping, that works PERFECTLY fine and yields in awesome results. But the NAM training file is so close to clipping at some spikes, that boosting by 4.77dB will clip off some of the transients. The Lehle P-Split III has a winding ratio of 1:1 - so here, I do not need to boost anything to get the same signal coming out like I am putting in.Therefore, to me the LEHLE is superior, because it's "set and forget" - which makes the workflow just that much easier. Hope this explains it well. :-)

@PippPriss Thanks! Oh yeah, I know about reamping. Have done that a lot but only through my fractal gear which is easy since the usb channels are already there for DI to the daw, and I can also easily send the DI track through my fractal for rerecording. What I didn't know was when you're using a DI-box. Since there are both DI-boxes and Reamp-boxes I was under the impression you needed both when recording thru a audio interface (I have a Focusrite Scarlet 8i6)? But I assume then that this Lehle can do both? I just rearrange the cabling when doing the reamp part? If so, that's really convenient... Why isn't it clearly stated that it can be used as such? I've seen some boxes which clearly can do both, and states so , but they are more expensive...

Thanks just ordered one so I can immortalize my Peavey 6505+ edit: is it true I can't use my horizon precision drive in the captures? I remember someone saying the gate cant be fully bypassed therefore it messes up the capture process
@PippPriss
@PippPriss 27 күн бұрын
Not sure about that, NAM is at times generous when it comes to gates. Other capturing technology is less forgiving. If you need help with an exact setting, I got a 6505+ and a Prec-Drive clone without the gate.

@PippPriss it doesn't matter now I've requested to return the P Split, for some reason when I split the signal it cuts my tone in more than half, the amp loses all its bite and just sounds like a crappy ampsim in the end, very disappointed 😞 if I pull one cable out of ISO or DIR tone comes back to life

I think you need to understand what reamping actually is.
@PippPriss
@PippPriss 9 күн бұрын
Then be so kind and elaborate, if you disagree or have additional knowledge that might help for a better understanding. Apart from NAM and capture technology, which is to be fair far off the actual use case of reamping, if you want to reamp your tracks for a recording, the Lehle P-Split III takes all the guess work out to replicate that same situation as if you are simply plugging in and playing.
