Best Reef in the Whitsundays - Hook Island

In this week's video, we find ourselves at Hook Island after a well-deserved stop in Airlie Beach to replenish our supplies. Nestled in the serene Butterfly Bay, we're safely moored, shielded from the wind and swell. To our delight, this bay is adorned with a fringing reef, and we've been told it's an exploration worth undertaking. So, grab your snorkel gear, and let's dive into the wonders of the underwater world!
Our underwater adventure proves to be a pleasant surprise! The coral is abundant and displays a mesmerizing array of vibrant colors, mainly consisting of soft coral as expected near the coast. The diversity of fish species is impressive, providing us with captivating sights at every turn. Today, we'll share some fascinating insights about the batfish, one of the intriguing marine inhabitants we encountered.
Spending a couple of days in this idyllic location before setting off to the reef is a truly enchanting experience. Join us as we immerse ourselves in the beauty of the sea and share our encounters with remarkable marine life. It's a lovely way to prepare for our upcoming journey to the reef, and we can't wait to show you all the wonders that await us there!

Great to see that nice bit of reef in Butterfly Bay. Last time I went in 2014 it was pretty wrecked, so it is good to see it coming back nicely - thanks for that. We liked heading out to Hook Reef from Butterfly Bay, when it was calm it was not too long to motor. Sometimes I would dive on what looked like a dead mooring and tie my own ropes to the block so we could stay for more than the few hours. Cheers

Yes it grew back to be magnificent! So much coral life where we dove, we were surprised to see that so close to shore. Diving down to tie your rope to a block sounds fun, a bit stressful but if theres not wind... that's cool!

Quel beau récif et ces poissons, les platax, originaux. Le gros poisson a tellement aimé le leurre qu’il l’a gardé.
