This is my first ride on my 2022 KTM 300 XC-W. I've put it together with a bunch of protective parts over the past few months and today was the first time it made sense to ride with bike, with all the other things happening.

Been watching your channel for a while, really enjoy it and wish we had single tracks like that we can ride here without police throwing you in jail! Your channel really sparked an interest in wanting to give it ago, being in the UK we have the KTM - EXC which is like the XC-W from my understanding, so looked to get that bike at first, but I couldn’t see many places I could ride it on number plates here so would have ended up taking it to a motorcross track anyways or doing an enduro day etc… not to mention I never had a road licence to ride bikes so would have been a £1500 expense to do license to ride it a few of the green lanes here… anyways, I ended up ordering a 2023 300SX which apparently won’t be here for a good few months, so really looking forward to riding that for the first time! It only has 5 gears from my understanding, and is TBI. It was the TBI tech that made me want this over the EXC, as the 300EXC is available to have straight away but the difference in new model didn’t seem to worth it over getting a older TPI, so buying new I wanted most up today tech, and as mentioned TBI and electrically controlled power valve seems logical to me. Seems like a carb but with the hassle of jetting it.. sweet lol thanks for inspiring me to go get a bike at 39 years old and give it a go! Keep up the great videos, love watching you ride the trails. 👍🏻

I have 3.4 hours on my 2023 300 XC-W. I have the ide screw mod done, it was a must. Bike came at 4 turns out on the Air screw, and would barely ide, and ran like crap. Finally, a fuel injected 2 stroke dirt bike. I have been saying it for years, but dirt bike manufacturers need too take a few pages from snowmobile manufacturers books. one example being, Snowmobiles have had oil injection since the 1980's, we have only gotten that on 2 stroke dirt bikes in the last 5 years or so.

I’d say XC of you want decent suspension out of the box. Yeah the XCW is plush…but it also doesn’t return fast enough (rebound). Deflects in a really sketchy manor anything but crawling speed. It works, but not great. Really depends on your pace I suppose. Stock to stock comparison, I’d 100% choose the XC for woods/not too rocky singles. Or my yz250x which is the most stable predictable bike I’ve ridden haha. That being said, my XCW has stiffer springs (180lbs) and gold valves. Feels absolutely incredible now. Stock didn’t cut it for me. I rode 40 hours stock and it was kinda terrifying pushing it.

@@georgebaird3468 The dealer and KTM have no idea. It is 100% stock. Other than has the idle screw mod. & iridium sparkplug which made it have a tad more power but then it started to miss fire for a split second to the point it missed and I fell once and broke a ribs. It willnot lift the front wheel off the ground and I weigh 165 pounds, 75KG with riding gear in. Dealer replaced the CCPS, CrankCase Pressure Sensor. I have posted about it all over KZbin and spoke with many dealers and top shops and techs in Japan to N. America. It lacked power from day 1. It has been to the dealer (not the one I bought it from) approx 4 times by this time. I had one of the very 1st in Canada back in July 2021! At 7.2 hours it seized. KTM replaced the piston, cylinder and crankshaft. I paid the labour. Dealer put 0.2 hours on it. I got the bike at 7.4 hours. I warmed it up and got to 3rd gear and it fully seized a 2nd time. Still at 7.4 hours on hour meter. KTM has sent a brand new motor and oil pump to the dealer. The dealer has not received it yet (been waiting over 3 weeks). Dealer says motors can get hung up at customs. I am in Canada. The dealer is the biggest KTM (Triumph, Ducati, Honda, GasGas, Husky,..) dealer in Canada. A buddy who has an excellent running 2018 (carbureted) rode it around 3.5 hours for 15 minutes and said something is holding it back (lack of zip and power). Fuel pressure, filters, intake, throttle body,...have been checked. Over 8 new sparkplugs,...Correct new gasoline, only Motorex fluids used.

I had a bad one as well until I put the Two Stroke performance power kit on. Eleviated the 1/8 throttle bog that was extremely frustrating. Now I have more power everywhere and now enjoy every rude. Best money I have spent on an upgrade. Its worth looking into and there are American distributors.

Thank you for all the suggestions,.... I was in the process of getting a Two Stroke Performance head & ecu reflash. But they had an issue with the ecu. So they returned it to me. Then less than 2 weeks later they phoned me to tell me they were using the bike (one they have) and there was nothing wrong with my ecu. My 2022 has 2 pressure sensors (1 for atmosphere & 1 for crankcase pressure). They used a test bike that was an earlier model back when they had only the CCPS. I am a licenced mechanic & certified electro-mechanic engineering tech and was surprised to hear of their oversite on this issue. So I got a Coober ECU & S3 head from Slavens Racing but this is still in the box it arrived in as I will not do any mode until KTM gets the dam thing running reliably at least. Before I could try the Coober it seized. Even the KTM N. America sales rep says they cannot tell the public but the TBI bikes need after market ecu changes at the minimum to get them performing as they should.

The bikes smoke horribly and in the tight woods the exhaust just hangs. Eyes burned, throat was sore and getting dizzy. I think I was getting poisoned. I led for a bit but they knew the trails and I did not. I won't ride in that type of setting agian with those bikes as lead bikes. I get it, I have five 2 stroke bikes in the garage right now but they are street bikes and no one has to suck up their fumes, they're collectable type bikes. As for electric, in some cases it works more than AWESOME! Like at Croom in Florida I've been riding an Electric Motion Escape I got a couple months ago and it dominates that type of riding. Slow tech stuff, what a blast! I know it does not work in the large open areas yet but what a machine when used in the right setting. I ride everything and this is by far my new favorite. I ride MX every week on a yz450 and ride a wr250r on the trails, etc.. but I can't get enough of this electric bike on the tight stuff. I can't wait to take it to more places like Moab and some tight rocky stuff I will do this summer in upstate NY. Give some of these bikes a try, I think you will find a new addiction. GL and thanks again for your material. Also, at Croom this week I met a guy with an Alta MXR and he let me test it and what a beast! When the Stark and others hit the market in a couple of years I think folks will love what electric can do. I am sold!!! You take an Electric Motion Escape on a Moab type trip and it will blow your mind. Yes, you will need shuttle it in closer to the good rocky stuff. Blow your mind!

Your friends need to do some jetting mods or ECU mods if they on TPI. Majority of guys I ride with are on 2 strokes and none of them smoke very badly at all. My 300 only smokes on a cold start and is pretty much smoke and spooge free after that. Are they on old pre-1990's bikes??

@@christobey4198 Telling your friends how to jet is like telling them how to raise their kids;) I actually have 3 friends with them. First one is 2015. He hadn't ridden it since he bought it, 6months.. It fogged the whole woods. I kept asking him what was wrong with it and he didn't seem like it was unusual. Last week 2 different buddies, 2013 was the bad one, he had it jetted the way he wanted. He said he wanted the low torque crawl set up, no stall. So it was really bad because in the fun gullies we were tight and slow and he needed bursts of power that fogged the entire gullies with no wind to clear it out. He acknowledged that it stunk. My other buddy likes to follow me and he had the 2022...much better but still stinks. I know everyone raves about them and ive ridden both. I've been tempted to pick one up until I followed these guys. Can't do it. I've been considering the wr250f, now that its phone programmable, I love that app on my yz450. Thx

@@wetlifesports I don't know man I just went riding Saturday and all 5 of us were on 2 strokes and none of them smoked enough to even smell it riding behind them. Sounds like your friends don't know how a 2 stroke is supposed to run. Jetting super rich for low end is what you did air cooled 2 strokes from the 80's. My friends are always open to jetting advise as so I'm I if needed.

@@christobey4198 Thanks, I'll see if they can clean it up. I really didn't notice it in the open higher speed rides. It just got bad in the still, tight, wooded, gullied, high humidity riding at Croom. The smoke had no where to go.

Nothing wrong with the stock front Dunlop... they are not a bad tire IMO.

I really don’t like the forks on the XC-W compared to the XC. I love my 250 XC-W for slow and tight single track, but it really falls on its face in the faster stuff compared to my 350 XCF.

I am on my 2nd TPI 300XC-W, not impressed with the lack of low end power. I really feel TBI could remedy this, IF the XCW's ever get it, '24 maybe?

They run amazing. I have a 19, 20 and 21 300 XCW TPI's. The 19 TPI runs and handles the best. Have over two hundred hours on the 19 with nothing changed, nothing rebuilt and I've never used the kick starter once. Bike is flawless - get out and ride one.
