State or National Park Campground camping for us was totally different in the 1950’s & 1960’s…Army surplus Tent and Cot rentals from the park ranger station would be dropped off by the park ranger at your site, you had to setup yourself. We cooked our meals on a heavy steel grill welded to a steel post set in the ground and ate on a concrete picnic table. No electricity was available. Carried water in buckets to do dishes with. We had our Coleman gas lanterns for light at night. Restroom facilities were pretty close and convenient so we didn’t have to walk too far…Very quiet at night, you’d maybe hear some muffled talking off in the distance but that was it, truly a wonderful time for family and friends…

We camp in a primitive camp ground and everyone has generators. Most have them in little "dog" houses to protect from the weather and to quiet them. We made a small box to cover ours with foam insulation board and duct tape and we fold it down when not in use. It really helps deaden the sound. You just have to leave air flow and it works great.

Rarely do I need to run my little generator but was going to do this {doghouse} if I ever end up running more. Would love for Aaron to build something like this and do decibel tests using various designs. I was going to put a slatted opening in the back and run a small fan for airflow and cooling.

Another great video with lots of good useful detail, thank you!. We saved up and bought the EU3000is Honda 😂 6 years later we love it even though it is 130lbs but the db is 58 at max and 48 at 1/4 power. (I hope this does not offend anybody) I work for an industrial laser manufacturer and many of our parts and components are from China. Unfortunately circuitboards burn out during testing or do not make the warranty period we give out customers. metals are soft and when we torque bolts and socket-head screws they strip. We regularly receive lasers, capacitors, motors, pumps etc. broken in the box. The owner overlooks it because the profit is so enticing. It breaks my heart to see this lack of quality but I’m hopeful quality will improve over time with Chinese made equipment. The moral of the story is you get what you pay for. I personally keep things for a very long time and want good reliable long lasting equipment, like all of us do. This is no reflection on you and your stuff. But I would love to see a long term review one day on your purchase. Downsizing makes cents did one on their Honda after 16 years and still running great with no issues😊. Love your content, kinda addicting 😂

Thanks Joe! No doubt Honda is at the top for generators and the brand new one that just came out looks great! Too bad it’s not dual fuel through…. Yes, since we only use a gen a few times a year, I think these cheaper options make more sense for us. We’ll be sure to share more on this gen as we use it more and long term. Thanks!

Wouldn't mind a Honda, but I don't think they make a dual fuel right? I was just googling. My first two generators I bought gas only thinking I would never use propane. But the longer I have this house, and with gas sitting through the winter I don't cycle it as often as I do in the summer when cutting grass. So I'm looking for a propane one, and my first thought was Honda or Yahmaha. But this and a Pulsar seem to be the big two right I've been finding.

We moved to FLA last year and purchased a Wen 56380i 3800 W of clean power. We were hit by Ian and relied on that gen for 2 weeks to power our home. It did awesome. We’d run it with a 2 hr on 4 hr off schedule but staying off all night. Refrigerator stayed cold and icy the whole time. Others can disagree but I ran a BBQ sized propane tank in less than a day. Very disappointed in the propane as I was hoping to get 3 days out of the tank. Averaged 2-3 gallons of gas/day.
@cjc1103
@cjc1103 10 ай бұрын
Propane is about 4.1lbs/gallon (dependent on temp), and a 20lb tank will actually only be filled to 16lbs (80%), so that comes out to roughly 3.9 gal, and it costs about $20-25 to refill. Three gallons of gas is roughly the same power density and will cost you about $12. Propane can be about twice as expensive as gas. Your mileage may vary, as they say. When using gasoline you have to use a gasoline stabilizer additive, which increases cost slightly, and regularly run them to use up old fuel. However propane burns cleaner than gas and you don't have to worry about the carburetor gumming up. You should run these generators at least monthly anyway, letting it sit is a recipe for failure.

Hello! Great videos! Are you aware of the Genmax GM4600iAEDC? It is the same form factor size, dual fuel, has a 30amp RV plug, remote start, electronic display and CO2 detector. Gas output is 4600/3800 and propane is 4200/3500. Just thought you might want to know because it solves some issues you pointed out like the RV 30amp plug. Have a fantastic day and keep up the great work.

Glad to see you got a generator . Your solar and batteries are impressive but I was concerned when you were in Louisiana. I been following for a while now, mainly I want ORV and you done what I would have done. The refrigerator and solar is the first thing I doing. As long as your batteries can last through the night until generator hours in the southern parts of the country there is nothing wrong with supplementing with a generator. Without a driving day to use my DC/DC chargers your solution works well. I do use the gasoline side a little more,especially for the shorter periods to get more of the watts to charge batteries faster. Propane is my long term. Depending on temp , and other demands and what solar is doing I can get 17 and 21 hours out of 30 lb propane bottle. Keep it up and good luck.

I’ve got the Firman 4kW starting wattage dual fuel model. Quality is excellent and it works beautifully, but it’s heavy at about 90 lbs, and I wish it was just a bit quieter. It’s not terrible, but just on the plus side of obtrusive in most settings, though I am very sensitive to noise so many probably think it’s very quiet. I do wish it had remote start. This one is the first dual fuel remote start I’ve ever encountered, so that’s great. I do love the wheels and handle on my Firman, they’re very robust.

They’re great but they do not make a propane model. That’s a deal breaker for me. Also it’s not like they’re a little more, they can be double or triple the price for an equivalent. Hi Chris and Aaron! This is an awesome video! These stand by generators have definitely been improved over the last 2 years. This generator is perfect as a back up for the already solar set up rigs! We ended up getting a Maxpeedingrods 3200, but it is only gas and doesn’t have the digital gauges that yours does. In my limited maintenance life (exaggerated as we always did hours of maintenance for every training hour), I have learned 2 things: engines break more when not used and change the oil regularly). I wish mine had an hour meter! So far, our generator has ridden in the back of the truck. Our saving grace is that since we only can squeeze in, at most, a week or so trip, we have the option of going to higher terrain in the summer or out to the near by desert in the winter. Thanks for making this informative video! Safe travels!

When everyone else's 3,000ish watt gen appears to be bigger, you have to wonder how Genmax did it. The easy way would be to fudge the rating. 😮Sometimes what is too good to be true, often is. Have you tested it to the 3,200/2,800 watts (depending on fuel) continuous?
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels Жыл бұрын
Thats a great question! Basically they just put a bigger engine in it. Genmax uses a 145cc engine and for example the Champion 2500 watt dual fuel uses a 79cc engine. These two generators are basically the same foot print in size, but the Champion is a bit lighter and quite because of the smaller engine and no electric start. The Genmax puts out more power and has a few more features like electric and remote start, wheels and handle, 30 amp plug, digital display, etc. I did run it up to 2600 continuous watts running our air con and charging the batteries. Confirmed the accuracy with our Victron battery monitor app. Worked great!

Good morning! Yes, it is easy for gasoline running and storage. The selector switch it was taking about on the side has three options: gas, propane and off. If you had gasoline in the gen and switched it to “off “ it would run till the gas is burned out of the gen. @IreneIronTravels 11 ай бұрын
Hello, sorry to hear about that! Sounds like a fuel issue maybe??? Are you doing gas or propane? Sometimes the propane regulator on the hose can be faulty. Also, check the spark plug to make sure it looks good and has the proper gap. Those are cheap and easy to replace if questionable. I did have a sticky throttle return spring after not using mine for about 8 months. Something to check on the carb.... Also, I hear they have a good tech line to call. Good luck! Can you parallel a different generator to get more wattage or does it have to be the exact same generator?
@IreneIronTravels

I think for the most part they need to be the same gen. Each manufacturer sells their own parallel kit and they’re different.

Since you moved up to the Alliance 5th wheel and your new solar setup, would you still recommend this generator since you now have 3 a/c's instead of 1?
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels Жыл бұрын
Hello 👋 Yes, I still think this gen is good for someone that is space/weight conscious and isn't looking to run "everything". 2 AC's running in the 5th wheel are about 2400-2500 watts and that will keep us plenty cool up to the low 90's. We rarely run 3, but will if its really hot out or just to super cool down the RV. With our new 2750 watts of solar it's going to be really rare that we will need a gen now! 👍

Just completed the break-in period and so far the unit is operating perfectly kzbin.infoUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y . I was amazed by just how quiet this little guy is. I kept having to walk down the driveway to the generator to make sure it was still running. In fact, the most annoying noise coming from the set-up is a high-pitched chirping coming from the pressure regulator on the propane line. I suppose it's possible my other propane-powered generator's pressure regulator is making the same noise, but the generator itself is so loud I've never noticed it. Build quality so far is excellent. My only nit is the service panel is a little tricky to remove. I feel like I might break off one of the plastic tabs when bending it back. I probably just need to work out the technique, so will not hold it against Champion.Next week I intend to fully load the unit to charge a large battery pack and will update this review if there's any problem (3000W continuous load vs a rated 3100W capacity while using propane). Absent any trouble there, I'm 100% pleased with this purchase.

This could be a whole video topic and test review to see exactly which is cheaper. But I am basing what I said on the fact it produces more power with gas and therefore would run at lower rate and run longer. Propane is a pain in the butt to find while traveling especially if you had to run to town to get it everyday. We don't run ours 8 hours a day so a 30lb tank lasted us 2 weeks, but for others it might make more sense (and be cheaper) to run on gasoline.

@@IreneIronTravels I understand propane has less energy, but at $1.00 a gallon cheaper, to me it's a no brainer. Propane isn't that hard to find. I have a 2500 watt champion duel fuel generator. Carry a 20 lb propane tank just for it. That way I can move generator away from trailer to keep exhaust from getting into trailer. Running the genarator that close to trailer is CO2 poisoning waiting to happen.

Basically you wanted a FREE generator,and you know Honda won’t just give you one. So your promoting a crap company with no long term quality, what so ever . Everyone knows the Honda 2200i can be parallel connected for 4400 . Smaller, lighter, quieter units . Proven dependable. But more expensive and you’d need two for 4400 watts …sad what people do for free stuff because they can’t afford quality products .

@@IreneIronTravels the generator isnt a problem long as its 3500 and you are ony running one a.c. it should hang on. What i find more concerning is your battery ans solar set up. Lot of people end up down the 15k to 20k $ solar road then wish they thought it through before hand. Knowing people in the solar business and at airstream i highly suggest you sit down and talk to someone for true expert advice. They get people in all the time, often do it yourselfers that should have talked to a rep before hand.

Great video. I looked for a LOT of videos on this generator before I bought it, and never ran across yours (even though I was subscribed). We have had this generator for about a year, and I like it a lot. I rigged up the propane connection so I could attach it to the RV if I wanted (or a separate tank). I usually run it on gasoline, simply because it is super easy to get gasoline everywhere you go. It is a LITTLE louder than I would prefer, but you can choose what to run and when and that can keep the RPMs down and the sound down. The choice is whether to run it longer (and quieter) at a lesser load to charge the batteries, or run it for less time (but louder at higher RPMs). That's an individual choice. I also change the oil in mine FREQUENTLY. It is super easy to do once you get used to it and you might as well keep it as fresh as you can. I have seen the latest versions of this generator and it has the same form factor but is 4600/3800 on gasoline and 4200/3500 on propane for about $999. Not enough for me to buy another one, but nice to get a full 30 amps+ on gas and almost 30 amps on propane.

@@billycordery6479 It will easily run one AC, and with my Victron Multiplus with power assist, it can run two (for a limited period of time). I have not run them in the heart of Summer (we actually don't camp in the Summer) but it works so far. Again, it is not the quietest, but the features it does have make it a VERY nice unit (IMO).
