I’m in the gas supply industry. I would like to just make one P.S.A. as I watched you open the valve on the propane cylinder. Only open fuel gas cylinders (ie:propane, acetylene, propylene) one to one and a half turns. The style valve they use only needs to be opened that far for full flow, and by only opening that far, if there was ever an issue (fire or otherwise) it only takes a turn or so to shut off the fuel source. High pressure cylinders such as oxygen and argon and their mixes, should be slowly opened as you stand clear of the regulator and then opened fully until they stop for full flow. I’ve been contemplating getting a generator, and Honda IMO is the premium brand. It can be hard to justify the cost on something you may never need/use, but Honda has a heck of a reputation for a reason. Thanks for the informative video. ❤

I have one of these little maxxs. I love it. Easy to move to, I think it only weighs 50lbs. Before I store it. I turn the gas off, and run it out of gas from the float bowl. I learned that lesson the hard way.

Great to get this comparison, and right on time too. I am just in the market for a generator for standby use during this winter weather, and next winter too, hopefully. Thanks Steve!

Looks a lot like the genmax generators. If its the same, just different name, then id have no issue trusting it. I have a couple of the genmax models and they saved my butt after the hurricane went through my area. Was fortunate to have only minor house damage. But power was out for a week. Ran them all day and night for a week straight, and they never let me down

Interesting, have to look up some reviews for that unit, see if its got any longevity issues... Has some nice features built in, & even if you only used the propane to clear, & store, the carb should work much better! Thanx !

My battery went dead on the Genmax 3500. Can you show me in a video where I plug in my trickle charger? I'm using the plug in charger, same plug used to trickle charge a motorcycle battery. Thank you Diana.

nah.... not the honda inverter types. those aren't made the same way as the conventional gas generators.

Other than running the generator how do you keep the battery charged for long term storage?
@Inisfad9 ай бұрын
The instructions are to disconnect the battery for long term storage. I don’t guarantee that this helps, however, as my battery was dead within 2 months. You can also try a battery maintainer. You’ll need one with the quick disconnect connectors

Mine packed up with just 2 hours on the clock. Found starter battery dead, went to use recoil starter for first time ever, and it didn't work! Probably never worked from the factory.
@Inisfad9 ай бұрын
I have the same experience as you. The battery dead, recoil not working. And absolutely NO support from Maxpeedingrods.
@markrainford12199 ай бұрын
@@Inisfad I did take it apart. The problem was the recoil mechanism was assembled incorrectly at the factory. So it had never worked. So much for quality control! Twenty emails later, they eventually sent me a spare pull mechanism, with a whopping five percent discount "for my trouble". As soon as I saw the new part, I realised what was wrong with the original part, and was able to simply assemble it correctly. so now I've got a spare. My thoughts are buyer beware! If it works, great. If not, you are fk'd. Are you in the UK?

@@markrainford1219 I’m in Ireland. Frankly, my generator worked the first day that I had it, and not since. The lever to switch between petrol and propane is ridiculously hard to turn (I’ve read, after purchase, that many others have had this problem). The battery conked out shortly after purchase, and while it’s ‘supposed’ to start on propane with the recoil, it doesn’t. I’m fortunate (perhaps) enough to have purchased this new from an outlet other than maxpeedinrods. When I first ran into difficulty, I contact maspeedingrods directly, and their customer service is nothing short of lousy. The other outlet was much more helpful. They’ve actually ordered a new battery for me (I just had to pay for the shipping from….China). However, I think someone may be walking it over to Ireland, as I’ve been waiting for it for a month. I’ve read other reviews where people have just gotten rid of this generator because they’ve had so much difficulty with it. I’m hanging in there….at least for the moment

They are rebranded Genmax units. What drives me nuts is very few people mention that the handles rattle. I have 2 and both rattle like crazy! It's infuriating that a convenience feature makes such an annoying noise. I had to wrap mine in tape making them unusable just to stop the annoyance.
