Thank you for doing vids covering 2 to 3 generations of CPUs and the MoBos that could support them best. Some of us take years to upgrade our desktop rigs and have mainly subsisted on laptops for general work. I think the last one I confidently built was an AMD Phenom 4 Black with a 5850 as a kid. WOW, this was so helpful, thankyou so much! You helped a first timer builder get to understand the differences between boards and how well the processors and mobo combinations work well together. Everything about this was so clear and easy to understand. I especially loved how you actually showed images of the motherboards rather than just listing them, this helped me visualise and understand more about it.

So one of the main advantages to the Dark Hero is the fact that you can set up the OC to switch between PBO and all core overclocking based on the power draw of the CPU. It addresses one of the weak points of AMD CPU OC that most don't even bother with. PBO is great for normal day to day stuff and gaming but if you want to max out the CPU for multi core workloads then PBO isn't as good as all core. All core is good for hard core productivity but not so much for gaming. Properly set up the Dark Hero covers both of the approaches.

I ended up going with the MSI B550 Gamer's Edge Wifi and am very happy with it. Aside from having the front panel type C header (which I wanted since my case has one), the number and location of the fan and RGB headers made routing those cables pretty easy.

I was running a b450 Tomahawk with my Ryzen 2700, then I upgraded to a 5800X, and the Tomahawk did just fine, but I wanted to upgrade boards as well to take advantage to the gen 4 PCI lanes. I was looking at the B550 Unify, but ended up going with the X570 Unify, as I found one for the same price. Was surprised not to see, as the B550 Unify was shown off. One thing I noticed from switching boards with the 5800X was the VRM temps. The X570 Unify VRM has much more robust cooling. Love the board! Good info

I Love ASRock Boards.. I have a B550 Velocita and I still have my first ASRock board the X370 Taichi.. I was a Day 1 First gen Ryzen adopter.. I started out with a 1700 overclocked to 3.9Ghz, then I dropped in a 2700X with FlareX 3200 CL14, But I am getting ready to sell my older rig to a buddy at work.. I still love that X370 Taichi Though.. I got a lot of use out of it also it runs Ryzen 5000 series chips too.. ASRock has kept their people up to date with new BIOS's for a long time now..

Hey! thanks for the thorough explanation! What about the MSI B550 Tomahawk motherboard? Is it any good? I bought a Ryzen 5 5600G at around 159$ at sale, and I found that motherboard in sale aswell, at around 80$ here in Morocco, so I had to jump on it, I still haven't gotten the products back, so I was wondering, would those two be a good pairing? or would I encounter any issues? Thanks !

MSI B550 Unify is a one of a kind board if you plan to use a lot of M.2 storage instead of 2.5" drives. 4 slots on the board with heatsinks, phenomenal! Also has insane VRM (90A Power Stages) and the biggest heatsinks ever seen on a motherboard.

I'm still pretty new to PC but I have been doing a lot of research. I have been watching most of your videos as I'm doing research. I recently just bought Corsair 7000D airflow case (yes I know it's expensive and very big) but I went with the 7000D so I wouldn't have to worry about not having enough space for anything when slowly upgrading my prebuilt. I know you said B550 are better and cheaper for gaming but I've been looking at the Gigabyte Aorus X570 Elite Wi-Fi because of the front connectors. I'm slowly upgrading my prebuilt I bought a year ago on newegg. No issues so far but I would love to upgrade so I'm familiar with PC and be confident enough to built my own in the future. I mainly use my PC for gaming only. Basically my question is, should I go for the X570 for the front connectors? Or go with an B550 instead?

Hey Jason! I was thinking about getting the NZXT N7 b550 board for my build and as I saw here you said it was a good board, but when I looked into reviews and stuff people said there were major negative sides too, which I don't really understand too well so that's why I'd appreciate if you could tell me more about it. To start with the M.2 covers don't have heat pads (idk what they're called) so is that a big deal? another one was that the second m.2 slot was gen 3x2 or something so the drive would operate at like half the speed if I remember correctly, which would be a big minus for the board right? So yeah I'm doing a mostly white pc build and I don't really know if I should get one or if I should just add a bit and get the X570 aero from gigabyte or something. Everything seems fine when I check it out on YT but on reddit it seems like a good motherboard doesn't exist haha. I only really need to have wifi on the board and having a front panel usb c would be a big plus too! BTW I'm planning to get the 5600x (5700x if motherboard take too much out the budget) with the RX 6800xt for gaming and school work. I'd appreciate if you can tell me if this combo is even good haha. Thanks!

First, thanks so much for these guides. Takes away the stress of too much choice when figuring out builds. I really want to get ASUS ROG Strix B550-F especially for the nice audio quality. But many people are having issues with the intel ethernet. Do you know for certain if this is no longer a problem?

My MSI B450 Pro Carbon AC started malfunctioning and after some research I identified two mobos I want to choose between: the AORUS ELITE AX V2 and TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI. Stumbled upon your video only to be re-affirmed I picked well. I don't really know which one to choose still but considering my current MSI one's failing, I think I'll give the Gigabyte one a shot.

I have a Crosshair VII Hero right now, and probably going to get the VIII Hero next for the PCIE gen 4 support. Probably the wi-fi version this time so it has bluetooth for a gamepad. I've also grown accustomed to the little niche extra features on the Crosshair boards. Like the digital q-code display, and the "probelt" voltage check points (and of course the abundance of USB ports). I made kind of a nifty mod, where I wired up some mini LED voltmeters to the probelt (removable, not soldered) to give a constant readout of the voltages, and designed/3d printed a housing to mount the voltmeters into the case. Mostly just for some aesthetic flair rather than any practical need, but I thought it was pretty cool and haven't seen anyone else do it. Anyway great video with some great advice for people who (unlike me) aren't looking to spend extra money on features they don't need.

Well done review!: Thank you for taking the time to include as much content as you could... very helpful. As for a suggestion, I'm looking for a micro-ITX board that is an X570 or x570S, and with the limitations of the ram, I'm definitely going to try to do dual rank with a 5600X processor. Currently it's in an Aorus Master X570, but that's an ATX and this is going to be a second build in a small form factor case. Hard to place a budget with that type of recommendation, but hopefully trying to stay under $400. Thanks!

Hey jason, great video as always. But out of curiosity. You mentioned you would recommend the aorus pro - p up to a r9 5900x. So by logic, the 5800x3d would be fine there as well? I realize it's not out yet but I just had to ask. Mostly because I have a case that can only fit a MATX, ITX mobo and I have no intention of replacing it cause I'm still inlove with it. Thanks in advance! Keep up the great videos man!
