B550. Nowadays no graphics cards to buy for the time being. So, my upgrade path now is to buy an amd chip with inbuilt graphics with a B550 motherboard. My question now is what chip to buy? If the graphics cards are available i want to upgrade to ryzen 5800x chip with a 3070 card or 6800xt card. I do not know if i am the only one thinking in this direction. Can you give us more input on this topic?

Your videos are extremely well thought out, put together, and organized. Straight to the point without wasting any time. Highly informative, with very practical information! Happy to have found your channel, man. I look forward to your future content. I'd like to see you talk about some niche things that some of us think about too, like who actually benefits from using a PCI-E 4.0 SSD instead of 3.0. Are there any other uses for PCI-E 4.0 chipset slots, other than M.2's? I've seen SK Hynix Gold P31 SSD's beat out 4.0 SSD's in game loading times for some reason, which leads me to believe, that gamers simply won't benefit from anything "faster". Also, who benefits from upgrading to, say, a 5800x+ from 5600x (maybe low settings, competitive gamers? Star Citizen maybe? Maybe there's little difference now, but could there be in a year when newer, better GPU's launch with a 5800x?) in gaming. Are there ANY gaming scenarios in which someone benefits from upgrading to at least a 5800x? Another good question is.. How much does 16GB versus 32GB matter for gamers, in say highly RAM demanding games like Star Citizen? I like the idea you did with your video about RAM. You made a quick little checklist for spending more money on RAM. I think the same could be done for other factors too, like upgrading RAM capacity, CPU's(going up in core count), SSD's etc. Thanks again.

Really good video. Explained a lot concisely, explained the reasonings behind why you chose that board, showed the board and information most people don't talk about, and there's loads of choices. Plus, it's fairly recent and takes into account the current pricing as of the time of upload (most ppl go by MSRP, which in 2021, is a lost cause). Though one huge, huge warning I have to give is look out for the ethernet chip, especially on the more expensive Asus motherboards. Specifically the boards with a 2.5 gigabit port. They use the Intel i225-V, which is notorious for being defective by design. And there's 3 revisions of it (the first 2 are defective while the 3rd supposedly fixes all the issues), so which revision you get depends on the manufacturing date. Only problem is, Asus corporate is useless and doesn't let you know this information, so it's literally a gamble to get a board with the revision 3 i225-V. And to figure out which revision you have, you need to either disassemble the motherboard and look for the writing on the physical chip, or get it to boot into an OS and check using Asus' Armory Crate or device manager. Trying to get information out of Asus support regarding which revision they're shipping (because it's confirmed they're shipping revision 3 since July for the Intel counterparts, but it's not confirmed for the B550) is like pulling teeth. Like seriously, I bought an Asus Strix B550-F, Asus support told me corporate didn't give them any information whatsoever so they couldn't help me, and I ended up having to follow a random forum post in order to take off the VRM heatsink, angle the board at a very specific angle, then use a floodlight to capture a readable picture of the chip. Got a revision 2 board after all that trouble. I'm lucky in that I have the resources and free time to RMA and return, but a lot of people don't have that luxury. So fair warning to those who buy a board with an Intel i225-V. Loads of angry complaints on reddit, amazon (check the reviews for the boards in this review with the i225-V), and Intel's forums (it got to be so bad that Intel deleted the entire thread dedicated to documenting this issue). But the workaround is to add an external ethernet port via an NIC card thing. You shouldn't have to do this with a $200 motherboard imo, but 2021 is shaping up to be the year of compromises so 🤷 (Time to buy a used 1660 for $500 USD unless you want to wait until 2022 for stock to maybe appear 🥴)

I have three AMD Mobos: GB X570 Ultra, Asus B550-E Strix, and GB B550 Elite. All of them are great choices at a different price point. The X570 and the Asus B550 are paired with Ryzen 9 5950x, no thermal throttling at all. The GB B550 Elite is paired with Ryzen 5 5600x, no issue at all. One thing I do not like about the Asus B550-E Strix is that if I shut down the computer and unplug the power cord, the computer does not boot when the memory is overclocked. I have to clear the CMOS every time I unplug the computer. No such issues with the Gigabyte boards.

Another neat feature of the Dark Hero is the hybrid oc technology. You can set a PBO curve for single core burst loads and a static oc for multicore loads. The mb will automatically switch between. I'm pretty sure this is the only board that does this since it is a hardware implementation over software. You can get the best of both worlds since settings a static oc usually kills single core performance and PBO doesn't give the best multicore performance. I ended up using the Gigabyte x570 Aorus Master for my 5900x. I wish the Dark Hero would have came out before I bought this one though for that feature.

However it does take more boot time than my Asus Z370 Strix and Master sometimes doesn't boot, you have to reset and go through bios, but you don't have to take power cord off or anything like that Ryzen variant. First thing I saw was the VGA light on the motherboard and no display. First thing I thought was that it was the power supply because it had a 650W and I didn’t hesitate to buy a Corsair RM 850x. Installed new PSU and still same problem. Then tried everything to do w the CMOS even ordered new ones. Still nothing. Took out basically every part in the PC and placed it back in. Checked cables. Bought whole new better CPU cooler. Everything. Then I was like “guess it’s time for a new motherboard.” Proceeded to find this video and came across this. Swapped back to the old CPU and guess what. It works. I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH. Yes it’s something so simple yet something I wouldn’t have ever thought. Thanks again.

Great content. You're an excellent presenter and instructor. Built up a couple of systems (an original for self, one MAX for friend) with the MSI Gaming Pro Carbon WiFi and agree that it's an excellent value. A bit long in the tooth in terms of PCI-E features, but still a fabulous offering that has run my Ryzen processors from 2600 to 5800. Even better: its price has dropped by some twenty bucks since you made this video.

I have the b550m MAG mortar. It's a fine board. Runs a 3900XT all day long, so would expect it to be fine for 5900X also. USB ports dont matter that much if you have a decent enough screen with a hub built in. I get my Audio from a £10 USB dongle that hangs off of my monitor. There's not much point in overclocking in this day and age, but check for VRM's that can supply clean power consisently without overheating. My price range is generally find out what the cheapest motherboard from a reputable manufacturer is then multiply by 1.5 - 1.6 so that they have margin not to cheap out on crap components.

When I was building my PC back in December/January, I was looking at B550 and X570 motherboards to go along with my Ryzen 5 5600x and I managed to get a ASUS Prime X570-P on Amazon, Used for 90 bucks. In fact, I just looked for the hell of it and as of me writing this, there's one on Amazon used for $100.46. And honestly, I simply picked it up because I was on a budget and it was the most affordable option at the time and from what I could tell, it's a solid board. For those that aren't skeptical about buying used or refurbished, you can score some fantastic deals with a bit of perseverance, patience and luck.

I've got a X370 Asus Prime Pro. It has a BIOS update from Asus that made it compatible with Ryzen 5000. I've flashed the BIOS when I had my 1600, for better memory compatibility, then my 3700X, and now my 5700X. As you mentioned Pcie 3.0 is fine since even high end cards don't saturate the pcie lanes, yet. My board has a ALC 1220, is full ATX, and has a 3.1 type C connector. The clincher I bought it at Microcenter for just 20.00 with my R5 1600 for 85.00. It's lasted me years, and will last me for years more with the 5700X. BIOS flashing is safe, if you know what you're doing, and pay attention. The only cost to me were my processors. If you can do it stop creating e-waste, or recycle those "old" platforms into something: home file servers, 3d printer print servers, home theater pc's. BTW you had to put the chip into the board right? So you would have to put on the heatsink at least once, right? You have to clean the inside of the PC at least once a year, right? So you would regularly take off the CPU cooler and blow it out, re-paste and reseat the cooler. Geez.

ASRock B550m-ITX/ac should also be considered. It's cheap and works really well for anything where you are not overclocking - the author may have excluded it because it isn't apparent that is supports 'bios flashback' because it doesn't use a button on the back panel. However, even the old BIOS versions allow booting to BIOS with the 5000 series, where you can update the BIOS version and it runs fine. Had no problem putting in a 5800X from the box.
