Good video Ivan. I’ve got the Autel MS906bt and, thru you, I got the ThinkTool Pros. Love the ThinkTool. I work out of my home as you do but don’t do a fraction of the diagnostic work you do. Even at 66 I love the challenges diagnosing brings. Scan tools can become an addiction. Thank you for great videos.

Considering these tools cost about the same as a minor/mid level repair it seems a no-brainer to have one even if you just want to educate yourself about your own vehicle. I have found that a good honest tech will appreciate when you go in with a level headed perspective about the problem as long as you don't erase the codes first.😂

I'm going to comment as a 70 year old retired welder who has found a new hobby in working on vehicles after helping my grandson keep his 1999 GMC truck going. Back in the 1990's I used to hear complaints about how the new computerized vehicles were just to complicated to work on. Now they seem simple or at least a lot simpler. As someone who loves to watch your videos, I sometimes fast forward through the parts where you are showing scanner/diagnostic tools that are way out of my price range or justification. This particular video has me rethinking that mindset. I am glad I kept watching so much of your content, and if I was a little younger, I would probably look back in the future on these cars today as much simpler, if that makes sense. Anyway thank you Ivan for all you do for us.

I've owned TPMS vehicles since 2010 and haven't needed a tool yet (GM and Mercedes - can't speak to other makes). Provided I bought the proper OEM sensors, I've never had an issue following the OEM relearn process. Yes generic sensors are cheaper but they last a long time and it would take a long time to pay that back with a tool.

@@YuckFou0x0FFFF I think a lot of that is because many cars don't tell you actual tire pressures through the gauge cluster. All 5 vehicles I've owned with TPMS (04-08 vehicles) show me individual tire pressure, which I find very useful.

The cheapest option with TPMS is to keep the OEM sensors and just install new batteries. I know with my wife’s 2016 Impala you have to reprogram the sensors after the batteries die, but that’s no big deal with a cheap $10 ebay tool.

@@carbie5614 In Fords there's a setting called deflation detection. I think it's in the BCM. You access it using Forscan. I forget the wording of the setting to look for but basically you change it from using the sensors to using the deflation detection method. There are threads in the Forscan forums that talk about it. Since you can't see the tire pressures on the dashboard anyway on Fords I didn't lose any functionality. There are some other things you can tweak as well.

I just ordered a tcp card for my old ts608. Can't wait to check out the added bidirectional controls. I had recently got a thinkdiag and an xtool a30m that have quite a bit of functionality and inexpensive bidirectional control, but my experience is Autel has much clearer on-screen guidance for special functions with less flakey behavior. Still happy to have my array of powerful cheap tools that are all getting updates for now.

Where I don't need bi-directional controls I typically just break out the Torque app on my phone w/ ELM327 dongle. Once you set up your customized dashboards it's generally faster than any "PRO" scanner. Only tricky part is finding a good clone dongle. ~50/50 chance of getting one that works well or very flaky vehicle support.

I bought Autel MP808TS just a year ago. Last week the VCI died on it, just one solid red led on when plugged in. Contacted the seller on ebay, and they said that i need to send the whole unit back to China, and i need to pay the repair since i've owned it just over a year and it is out of warranty. Their listing says that it has 5 year warranty which is seemingly complete BS. I'll maybe buy another vci for it, but i thought about buying Thinktool Pros now. I have Launch Diagun iv too, and it has been working flawless for four years so i trust Launch quality more than Autel.

Great review. I have watched many scanner reviews where the guys sit in the car and show menus out of focus and talk and talk. Mostly they make the windows go up and down or honk the horn to show bidirectional control. It was really great to see you actually using it to do TPMS which I need to do on a 2008 Volvo.. I also need to diagnose an emissions problem on a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I bought an XTool D7 but even though the special functions show up under the sub menus apparently not much is supported of actual value for me. BUT it could make the windows go up and down on my Jeep.! I should have expected limited functionality when it only gave me the option of Grand Cherokee 2005 and older. I guess there isn't much of a scanner market for old Jeeps.

There are plenty of other videos out there showing the bi-directional stuff... That's kind of a given for a lot of these good ones like the xtool D8, topdon Phoenix, thinktool, autel..ect. ect.... He was just showing how well this thing does TPMS, which sets it apart from most of the others... But now that it ALSO has bi-directional contorls-- it stands out quite a bit... The good thing about the xtool D8, is that it basically has a full locksmiths key making tool built into it. So it does very well at making IMMO keys and can even pull codes on the cars that need it, like a Nissan or Acura for example... I personally don't care about TPMS and will never repair them anyway, so that's just something that's not really going to sway my buying decision. But that maxi-com is hard to beat now.... because before, it didn't have the bi-directional stuff at all

I am always interested in a good aftermarket scantool that does bi-directional stuff. But for me it has to be very Mercedes compatible, particularly mid-2000s Mercedes. Best one I seem to have found so far is the Foxwell NT510. I can get a Mercedes-only one of these for $200 and that is going to be hard to beat. Again I need it to work with EVERY module, and support the same bi-directional controls as the factory Star system, with the exception of module programming. Someday I'll invest in a Star setup but a modern, lightweight scan tool that does everything but programming would be highly valuable obviously.

Bucket list is to have an ultra one of these day, but went with option 2 with an xtool, and have many functions autel is charging 3 or 4 times the price to have access to.. autel is definitely a class above but my xtool is faking it till it makes it, really really well lol

I do not like to disagree with a professional as you, however if you were in my shoes being retired and wanting a bidirectional diag scanner the Anyscan A30M by x tool is a bluetooth dongle that works with Android or IOS, it has free updates for life too. XTOOL Anyscan A30M OBD2 scanner covers many capabilities that are only available in advanced diagnostic tools with a low budget, such as bi-directional Control, OE-Level Full System Diagnosis, and 21+ Standard Maintenance Functions. I been using this for several months now and so far has not let me down, it can do TPMS and learn too, I was able to see the readings of the tire pressure and the ID numbers too in my Highlander. There is so much that can be done, I messed a little with the activation of components. If the module has those capabilities this can command them. For a little over 200 bucks it is well worth the coin for me and does all manufactures too. The only thing that was a little draw back was I used it on a Porshe Macan and the codes came back in Germain and if you clicked to resolve it went to the condition in German. Other than that it works fantastic. My son even installed it on a Chromebook for me because it was the newest I had with the biggest screen too, I love it. I highly recommend it and would advise others take a look and keep in touch. I would love to test them against each other as well. And the reports can be emailed or saved to the device too, and it has graph of many things o2 sensors idle and so many more too.

Ivan, I was about to pull the trigger on Autel MaxiCOM MK808Z-TS Scan Tool - 2023 Bi-directional TPMS Tool Updated of MX808/MK808BT/TS608Pro with Active Test, 28+ Service, Bluetooth All Systems Diagnoses, Sensor Program/Relearn, FCA Autoauth but then I found a video on Autel and their update policy locking up a unit. What happens when you do not want to update because you just work on your own old cars?

I got the Xtool D8 for $700.. It's very good, it has all the bi-directional controls. and 30 special functions. and is very good at making keys and pulling codes for special keys, ect.... It's one downside is that it can't graph the data very well.. I can only graph one thing at a time in the live data pid list.... and then I can only "combine" 5 different things at once, and it will only let you do it on one graph........... It won't fill the screen with several mini-graphs like the thinktool does, which is unfortunate... but otherwise it has been very good for everything else. and has 3 years free updates. It paid for itself in the first week easy...... The Topdon Phoenix ($900) or the Thinktool ($1200) are both better options from what I've seen.... The D8 is definitely worth the money though.

Thanks for making the video. quick question as a gm tech I'm familiar with missfire and history missfire data, does this tool also do that. I really need a tool that can monitor that. Not really concerned with tpms, no one that brings cars to me ever spends money fixing those issues. Thanks

According to Autel USA, when I contacted them directly about 3 weeks ago, the MP808BT is not Auto Auth capable. However the MX808 is. I contacted them specifically about the MP808BT and was told that the closest options to it was the MS906BT, which is bidirectional, or the MX808, which is not.

I had been thinking about getting the mx808 for some time but I too wanted bidirectional control. Upon seeing this video, I learned that it had gotten BDC with a recent update. I now have one on the way and it should be here in a couple days. The mx808 doesn't do TPMS but I have the ts508 for that.

I thought the D8 was really good why would you wanna trade? Just curious
@calholli
@calholli 2 жыл бұрын
@@dieseldawg7132 It's very good.. It just doesn't "graph" the data very well, like the others do. If you've watched this channel a lot, you've probably seen where his ThinkTool scanner can have a full screen of like 8 different mini graphs all at once.. The D8 cannot do that at all. It can only graph one thing at a time... OR You can pick up to 5 separate things to graph, and it can only COMBINE them all together on ONE graph--- so all your squiggled lines of data end up over lapping each other and you're trying to look at several things at once----- rather than having several mini graphs that are easy to read.... This is really the only downside I've seen with the D8. But it was only $700, and that ThinkTool Ivan uses is like $1300.. SO it's almost double the price....... IDK, the D8 is still very good, and you usually only need that extra detailed graphed data when you are comparing to a pico scope signal, ect.. Othwise you don't really need it I guess.... But the point is, the ThinkTool is better and the Topdon Phoenix is better (for $900) ... and if I could go back, I'd probably just get one of those instead. This D8 has already paid for itself though, very quickly. I made several copies of IMMO Keys and key fobs in 4 different cars right away. And the Dealers were trying to charge me $500 per key, which is just insane. So again, getting a scan tool was the only way to go. I'm not paying some corrupt dealer $500 for a dang key to be made.

I've got a 2013 T&C I need to do TPS relearn (changed the ECU due to alternator not charging.) But also have the annoying TPMS on my 06 Suburban, plus an airbag light (mechanic replaced the heater core and that light came on.) Thank you for your advice. If the sensors already have an ID number, any sensor will work as long as the sensor is is on the right frequency. If you want to make a copy your current sensors to put in another set of tires/wheels, so you can swap sets without doing a relearn process, you will need a set of programmable sensors. These tools are fine if you only need to do a relearn. The Autel TS508 which I have can only clone/program Autel sensors. I assume the same applies to the 808 series. I don't mind that because I like Autel's push button release on their sensors which makes them a breeze to install and change.
