I've been waiting for this since you did the D7. I AM AN ADVANCED DIY MECHANIC, and have been going crazy trying to figure out what my next tool will be. My Bosch 1300 served me well, but it's time to go bi-directional. It's mind-boggling. The manufactures, the models, the levels, the upgrades... there's no end to it. I don't want to cut myself short and I don't want to pay for stuff I'll never use. I drew my line at the J-box. I'm pretty much down to the D8 and the Thinktool Pros... which will soon be replaced by the Thinktool Master2. But if I go with that, then there's the question of who to buy it from. It's a shady world out there. Thank you for all you do. You're a beacon in the dark.

I ended up with the Topdon Phoenix Plus. It's been a great tool. I paid just over a grand. This tool has taught me a lot. Mostly, how little I actually know. Now that I'm learning I see how important a scope is, so that's next. I'll probably go with Topdon again because I now trust the quality and they seem to be the most affordable. I don't make a living with these tools, so I feel like these are the top end of the DIY scale and bottom of the more advanced equipment. Kinda crazy to spend more for tools than I do for my vehicles, but I enjoy doing this stuff. Eventually I hope to make it a lucrative hobby and at least get something back. Good luck.

Mostly looking for bi-directional ability that the BlueDriver and OBDLink MX+ don't currently have, like TPMS programming, key programming, and other controls for diagnostics. Those features would be so nice to have! I can see a D7 and D8 would be able to help a great deal. I started deep into car diagnoses when I got a chronic, dreaded CHECK VSC error on the dashboard. That took me into MAF, throttle body, short-term and long-term fuel trim, air-fuel ratio, fuel injection system, fuel vapor canister, fuel cap, upstream and downstream O2 sensors, catalytic converters, etc. Then that took me into all the potential tests and fixes for each of those components, from smoke test to fuel injection system clearn, paint thinner in the gas tank, etc. A simple $30 bluetooth OBDII dongle did help a great deal to pinpoint a specific error codes and idenfying potential fixes. Due to the limited BT bandwidth, the live data analysis can only be done with low fidelity and therefore, harder to pinpoint the problem.

@Chitown388
@Chitown388 10 ай бұрын
@@zaiks0105 yes, I did! The problem was a combination of a bad fuel cap, a broken downstream O2 sensor, and a pin hole exhaust leak at a rusted exhaust flange that's adjacent to the downstream cat. The rusted exhaust flange is a well known problem for my Lexus. Each problem was discovered incrementally throughout the 18mos drama. The biggest headache was the exhaust leak; three different shops tried welding to plug the leak but each time only fixed the problem temporarily. Thanks to a Chris Fix video, my DIY $10 JB Weld fix is lasting over a year, so far. BTW, the permanent fix is to replace the cat and the exhaust pipe that are connected together. But that'd be prohibitively expensive.

I am an advanced DIY mechanic. Had been holding off on purchasing the D7 as my new scan tool for this review and am glad I did as the features I was concerned about are covered on the D8. Been a big believer in Toyota since our family 93 Camry turned 780,000 before one of my sisters got into an accident that totaled it. I'm even known as the Toyota guy in my area since I have a few and convinced most of my friends and family members to make the switch as well; although because of this I was somewhat volunteered to maintain and repair them all including some other makes. I definitely don't mind as I've enjoyed working on cars since I was 13 and the added revenue from time to time is always nice. I'll wait to see if I come up with a little luck on the raffle but looks like the D8 checks all the boxes and will be my next scan tool. Thanks again for your thorough review AMD it was greatly appreciated!

Based on your video I contacted XTool to find out if it would pull, specifically, the SRS codes on my 2007 Subaru Tribeca. It took only a day for Jenny to respond that their engineers assured her that it would. The tool arrived today and after charging, updating and reading the instructions (seriously) I plugged in to my car. Did the full autoscan and sure enough code 38 popped - LH seat belt buckle failure. When I clicked on that it gave me written and KZbin solutions. Amazing! I already knew it was going to cost nearly half what I paid for the tool just to have the dealer connect their SMS. Also, one of your “cons” was the combined length of the OBD2 plug. The streamlined that! Now it looks like most others. Thanks for making this video!

I stumbled across your channel and I am so glad I did. Your reviews of these scan tools are excellent and I am grateful for your thorough testing and evaluation. I try to do a lot of my automotive repairs and have a basic scan tool, but if the D7 had a better battery life I would buy it tomorrow. I really like the bi-directional feature. Thanks so much for sharing your experience and knowledge with us.

Just ordered D8 with a new lock cylinder which I've been needing to replace for a few years. The truck likes to keep the key when the battery is still connected. I also change TPMS with rating with TechStream I have had my laptop down before so this would be a good time saver. Also if I get to see all my children in this life we might have 38 vehicles.

I am an advanced DIY mechanic. Although on some projects I feel like I need a set of instructions about which end of the screwdriver to hold. Working on newer vehicles can certainly do that to you at times. You end up questioning just how advanced you really are. But having the right set of tools makes everyone better at the job they are working on. Good review of an interesting product that, like you said, nobody has ever heard of. Be well and have a Happy New Year.

Thank you for this video. I have a 2013 Nissan Maxima. It will start up fine and no noises while idling. All interior light, locks, power seats, heated seats, sunroof ect all work fine. All exterior lights, & power mirrors ect work great. The start push button works and starts the car. I can move the gearshift out of Park and put it into Reverse, then into Neutral and then into Drive. The gearshift moves smoothly, into the different gears, but the car doesn’t respond at all to any gears. When I put it into drive and give it some gas, it doesn’t go forward, when I put it in reverse and give it some gas it doesn’t go backwards. I needed to put the car in a parking space and even if I put the car in drive or Neutral and have some people behind the car pushing it, it will not move , it seems to be locked up and I don’t have the parking brake on, or my foot on the brake pedal. It’s like it’s still in park. No matter what gear I move move it to. I read online that the 2013 Nissan maxima has transmission problems. I also read that the transmission can go into a lock mode and you have to do a release or reset. Do you have any knowledge of that or anything else I can troubleshoot, before I have to have it towed to an auto shop. I would like your advice on which scanner I need for a Nissan Maxima, because, I want some idea of what’s wrong with it, before I have it towed to the shop, since I’m a 62-year-old Grandmother. I’ve had my share of scams and won’t tolerate anymore. Thank you so much for your videos. I subscribed, because I know I have a lot to learn, in order to get myself back on the road again. Thank God there’s people out there like you, willing to share their knowledge with others. Thanks again. Anyone else in the comment section, I’m open to your suggestions to. Thanks in advance.

I am an advance DIY mechanic. I personally work on several Toyota’s ranging from a first generation 2001Tundra, 2013 Camry XE, 2007 Camry XLE. 2005 Lexus ES 330 and 1997 Ford Mustang Cobra edition. I currently have an EVAP leak (P0442) small leak on my 2005 Lexus ES330. I would like to use the bi-directional function of the D8 to isolate the leak with purchasing and expensive smoke machine.

I am an advanced diy mechanic, one setting I want to change on my 2019 Tundra crewmax trd off road is that I leave my head lights on auto and when I reach my destination very early in morning some times I have to wait for some time. As I shutoff the engine and have my key in accessory mode as I am listening to radio, the lights are ON for forever, they don't shut off until I take my keys out and lock the truck. They should shut off when in Accessory mode. May be I can change this setting!

I am a Advanced DIY mechanic, I recently programmed my own TPMS for my winter tires here in Chicago using the xtool tp150. Im considering buying the D7 to reprogrammed my wife 2016 Rav4, both key fob keyless entry are not working, I called toyota schaumburg where I bought the rav4 and I quoted 300 dollars to reprogram my key fob. I worked and maintained 4 car in total, my 2016 rav4, my dad 2016 camry special edition not a regular SE trim, my little brother CRV, my recently acquired 2021 Corolla Hatchback Special Edition build and assembled in Japan and only 1500 units were produced worldwide. I torn between getting the D7 and D8. I know its sounds silly that Im buying such an advance scan tool just for Key fob reprogramming but I wanna learn more. I can do basic job like control arm and CV axle R&R, complete suspension overhaul, installed a invidia cat back exhaust system on my old lexus IS350 fsports by myself, wheels bearing R&R on my dads camry, I think next step for me is to learn more about advance scan tools. Learn to operate and make the most out of it.

Good day my friend. You have to be a super mechanic, all of the comments here read, “advanced DIY mechanic “, just joking hehehe. I’m still learning after having 19 years of experience selling auto parts and now 20 years as a truck driver; just turn 60 yesterday. Never late to learn something new. Great video and knowledge given, blessings.
