In the second story, the people remind me of a fallen empire in Stelaris. Peaceful and quiet, they even help you if you're lucky and they like you. But if you dare to attack or even threaten them, your game is as good as over unless you have overwhelming firepower.

The only other Group that is on Par with your species calls you, drops every Bit of formality and says "Quick, get Out of there before its to late! If you harmed the locals, let them punish you. Thats your best Option!" That alone should be an Alarm Signal. When they add "We will not interfere. They will Deal with you." you should reconsider your life-choices. I don't really care for this image of humans as an empire in space. Sure about 55% of Earth governments are non-democratic - but most of those are also anything but decent enough for their own population. And that's something we sure need to grow out of as a species. Oh well. If it were one of those nations who may got a king or queen - but still have elected government - then it may be ok. But nothing else. So to say, it makes me feel disgusted if I have to think of a 'authoritarian' type of a thing - because the reality is that if a leader has too much power it will be used wrong. Instead of having a state with 'rule of law' - you would have a state with 'rule by the law' - the significant difference being that in former laws are there to protect the people and for the people, while in the later the laws are there to protect the ruler and his cronies. And to benefit them financially - in many cases to the point where corruption becomes inbuilt to the very system. Lesser officials being able to steal from the state only a little bit and those more important able to steal a lot, insanely much - all being so normal that it passes through fingers without any hiccups. (Very much the reason why Russian army is in quite poor state, because all that money's gone elsewhere.) Never mind the troubles regular people can have with all that - when you can't even speak your mind without landing into 'Siberia'. In most decent nations it is illegal for the leader to order an associations in another a country - but not in one of those countries that are 'imperialistic' at the core.
