Excellent look at the price compare to the ninja inferno for the same length, and I have found, for me at least so far, the All-Intra setting is still a bit choppy compared to a ProRes or Cineform and DNxHR codec, at least in Premiere. I haven't tested FCPX yet. But I'm one of the guys with the lucky Lexar card, but the Inferno also seems to be a great way to ENSURE you are not going to have an issue! Plus, can't beat having the monitor!!!

Great info and great tip about ssd recorder instead of v90 cards for long shoot. However if I am shooting all day I usually bring my laptop with external ssd drives so I just keep copying file off sd card. Every case is different however. PS my Lexar 2000x 64g card works

Good point Kevin! Depending on the gig, I try not to re-format cards. Freaks me out! Thank you for the info on the 2000x cards!
@NakeanWickliff7 жыл бұрын
Yup. I try to leave as little room for human error as possible. Formatting cards is only something I do in an absolute emergency. Yes cards fail, but humans fail WAY more often.
@kevinchung14927 жыл бұрын
I understand about format failing or human error. If I need to shoot GH5 400Mbps whole day I would take 3 128GB V90 cards with bunch of my older SanDisk 95MB plus 2 SSD. When card1 full start copy to SSD1, then SSD2, then format card1. If I have card fail I still have 2 in my rotation. If 2 card fail I would switch to 150Mbps longGOP with my 95MB backup cards. I do agree the most comfortable way is to use external recorder. For me either way works.
@NakeanWickliff7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I like the ability to record internally at 10bit longGOP and externally at the same time. Plenty of space at only 150mb and lots of room on my 1tb ssd's for my recorders

I have been using a Sony 64gb card that came with my gh5 that’s 300mb read and 299 write, as well as a Sandisk 64gb 280mb and both have done well. I haven’t tried recording in full C4K 400mb yet, for that I would step up to the faster bigger cards.
@zachmumford59347 жыл бұрын
Caleb, I've found that the Delkin V60 cards do in fact allow for 400Mbps video (which I mean, would stand to reason as the V60 specification requires a minimum write speed of nearly 500mbps)
@SullyCortez7 жыл бұрын
I've had absolutely no problems shooting with my SanDisk Extreme Pro 300/MBs 64GB cards. I have a bunch of these and they record the 400 allI and the 200mbps H.265 footage perfectly. I've had no write failures and no read failures. For some reason they really jack up the price of the 'v90' cards despite the SanDisk 300's working fine huh. Guess cuz they're new...

Amen brother. It's just a marketing ploy. Like a Leica compact camera that's actually a LX100 but with a red dot. Focus on equiv. top out speeds and get a reliable brand. I have complete faith that any SanDisk card with Panasonic/Delkin V90 equivalent top out speeds (R280/W250) will work just fine where V60 or V90 is a requirement.

I think Max recommended the Sony M series SD cards for the 400 mbs codec. You can get them in a two pack 128 gigs so I took the plunge because I could return if they didn't work. So I tried it on a local shops GH5 at the 23.98 DCI and recorded the full card. No glitches or drop outs.. But you are right most people will likely not do a continuous record for a full card so under 10 min is likely fine.

Amen! R280/W250 is the same as top out speeds on Panasonic/Delkin cards, without the silly mark-up in price. Of course, now there's the newer R300/W260. Not suprised that like the UHS-I R95/W90 it will be given a V-classification later as well (95MB/s cards -> V30 these days). Tried many over the years, but SanDisk all the way back to the hacked GH2 and BMPCC days has proven the best.

Very helpful...but All-I 400mbps is not a viable solution for filming documentaries until we get a 500GB v90 card on the market. I've used (2) 128GB and that barely got me through part of the day at 150mbsp. What's with Panasonic coming out with a 128 GB v90 card for $500 (and it's not out?) Is that what's driving up the price of these cards? They are even higher today than when you made this back in October.

Curious about some real world tests for this. Griffin House said in a video that internal recording makes smaller files on the GH5. Have you done any A/B testing for SD cards and SSD drives?
@cinemenico7 жыл бұрын
I've been a strong SanDisk support since the GH2 and BMPCC days (best cards for spanning and handling those high bitrates reliably). Tried numerous other brands, always come back to SanDisk. They might not have official V60 or V90 class cards, but they work just as well. The UHS-I R95W90 cards were later given the V30 badge. I'm sure the UHS-II 300 MB/s and R280W250 cards are capable of V60 or even V90 just as well... same top out speeds as the Panasonic/Delkin cards. Logic/deduction dictates ~ factor 3 for V-class. Minimum recommended for V60 therefor 180 I'd say writespeed. And V60 is the classification you'd want with the GH5 with FW upgrade being capable of sustained 400Mbit/s -> 50MB/s. Btw, SanDisk cards have a little table on the back with how many minutes of footage the card can hold with 4K 500Mbit/s. So SanDisk, the reliable brand I came to love & no mark-up in price because it's got the rare 'V'-classification. Always my pick. I would be a little concerned with any cards below 180 writespeed. They might work initially. But new cars don't break down immediately either... and when they break down, it's usually at the most inconvenient time. Plus, you'd probably want your cards to be futureproof. And cameras and readers improve all the time, so it can't hurt to get some on the V60~V90 side.

The problem with buying non-V90 cards is that they are NOT guaranteed to work at 400 Mbps, so your card might not work and you can't return it for a replacement because the minimum write speed for these cards is only U3 which is only 30 MB/sec. ( 240 Mbps )
@cinemenico7 жыл бұрын
Yes, but again, marketing talk VS a bit of common sense and saving mindset... SanDisk cards, just about the only brand I trust (I mean, I trust Panasonic cards, but $_$) with same or better top out speeds ARE performing just as well. That it's not actually guaranteed/backed by a V-classification... I can live with that. Would be something else if I do commercial gigs instead of creative or personal ones.

You cannot record ALL-i over 10-20 or so seconds when memorycard is in first slot, if you put it to the second slot, you can record easily over 2 minutes (haven't needed more). What is even funnier, that I have 64gb transcend v90 card, which should be faster, but has the same issue as with Lexar. In the first slot camera stops recording after 10-20 seconds or so, but in slot 2 it records over 2 minutes.

I'd honestly pick a card with W180 MB/s top out writespeed as a minimum. If the SanDisk UHS-I R95/W90 gets rated V30 (factor 3x) and the R280W250 get class V90 (factor 2.78x), then for V60 you'd be looking at around 167~180 MB/s top out speeds for max. sustained writing. So pick any card with W180 or greater. Better yet, SanDisk to me has been the most reliable brand for years. Get one of their (R300 or) R280/W250 (same as V90 Panasonic/Delkin) cards!

V60 works only if it is an UHS-II Card. An UHS-II Card has more connectors, so it is phyically build different. That is the reason the GH5 rejects to record even on very good and fast Cards if they are only UHS-I. I heard Panasonic, for some unknown reasons, had limited the camera to reject UHS-I Cards even if they technically should be able to work. That is why the Lexar 1000x works, it is not V certified but writes at constantly 80+ MBps because it is UHS-II, sadly exactly this company is gone...

Everyone who screams "The latest model of XXXX brand does not have 4k video!" should watch this explanation lol. BTW, if I buy a camera for $2000 and it doesn't accept the cards it's supposed to, I would strongly consider returning it.

An external recorder definitely makes more sense here, IMO

EposVox Sorry. Can you record in a external recorder and at the same time in the sd?
@EposVox7 жыл бұрын
Yeah the GH5 should be able to. Their entry-level ones (G7, G85) cannot, but the GH4 and GH5 can

After Effects or Apple Motion?? Help

Motion.
@pureoakgaming71486 жыл бұрын
"Short answer: use Motion for quick and impressive looking results right off the bat and AE for the big stuff. It really depends on how complex your project is. If you need to do more complex compositing work (overlaying and keying video and graphics in a 2D environment) and if your project will utilize more than 50 layers of video and graphics in a 3d space, you’ll want to use After Effects. I work in both programs. After Effects is more powerful - especially it’s ability to let you write or buy scripts to speed up your workflow, but Motion is easier to use and can give you an almost immediate real time preview of what you are doing. Motion is also a bit more intuitive to start for first time users, but if you dedicate a few sessions to learning the basics of AE, then you can get up to speed pretty fast in that as well. When I first started, AE was fairly intimidating and made no sense at all even though I had been working with Adobe products for years. Motion, on the other hand was actually a lot of fun to jump into. AE is great at managing large, complex layers and projects, but Motion can be easier to navigate on simpler projects."

Actually, my Delkin V60 64GB works just fine with 400Mbps, it will record at a constant time untill the card is full.

ummm.....megabits, not megabytes. Big difference. You keep bopping back and forth between the two data descriptions....be clear, tell the people which it is....
