I visited Seattle last year (2021) for the first time in 40 years. Lived back in the day on Queen Anne Hill and shopped at Tower Records. I was rebuilding my vinyl LP collection (that I sold for pennies on the dollar in the 90s). I visited Daybreak (new location) and Jive Time. My airline carry on bag, full of LPs, weighed about 50 lbs and I left some clothes behind to make room for the records. It was worth it!

I was at Seattle for two days! I left yesterday. I actually didn't know Sub Pop had their own record store. I should visit when I go back down in a couple of days.

I miss record shopping in Seattle. My top 2 were definitely silver platters and Easy Street. Hopefully will get to go back one day when things calm down. Cheers from the merch connection in Florida!

Easy Street, Jive time, 2nd time around (which has been around forever) and one of the most significant stores in the country regarding vinyl, Bop street - which is right across the street from Sonic Boom. I live in Kentucky now, but I lived in Seattle for 46 years and bicycle commuted all over the place for 20 of those years. I also sold Hi-Fi between 1976 and 1982. I visit a lot of those stores every year when I go back to visit relatives. BTW, Jive time has a great "off price" section in the mid-century antique mall in Freemont.

Just finished a two day epic Seattle area record store tour. Bargain CD’s, Records, and Tapes (Everett, Wa), Silver Platters Lynnwood, Wa), Beats and Bohos (Greenwood), Jigsaw Records (Ballard), Bop Street Records (Ballard), Sonic Boom (Ballard), Silver Platters(SoDo), Everyday Music (Capital Hill), M&L Records and Models (Ravenna), Golden Oldies Records (Wallingford), Fat Cat Records (Walingford), Daybreak Records (Fremont), Jive Time Records (Fremont). Intended to get to Neptune Music (U district), Spin Cycle (Capital Hill), Wall of Sound (Capital Hill), and Light and Sound Records (Capital Hill), but I ran out of time. I went WAY, WAY over board and my wallet is hurting big time. Had to buy a record box so I could transport them back to Portland.

It's sad how Austin, Texas was once known as "the music capitol of the world". Today there are only 3 record stores to choose from: Waterloo Records, End of an Ear, and Breakaway Records. The records at Half Price Books and Goodwill are ALWAYS thrashed and over priced. No one can afford to open a record store in this city because the property taxes are so high.
