In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens kzbin.infoUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
@coltonposeyfishing Жыл бұрын
I agree, I have lowrance units now to be specific the fs active scan ti units and the input speeds are great compared to HB and Garmin. But I will speak from experience when I say both C map and lakemaster have their pros and cons when it comes to accuracy on specific lakes. But ether way I agree the ti units is another ball game. I have a updated video on these specific units. Thanks for watching and tight lines!

Thanks for all the info I’m just a rookie still learning one thing I noticed everyone turns fish I’d off why is that ? Wouldn’t you rather see fish symbol than a arc , anyway a question I have is if I have fish symbol on will I still be able to see fish when using mega down and side ?
@coltonposeyfishing Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! That’s a great question, one reason is overtime it can actually hinder your perception of how big the fish is. Ex. In general most tournament fisherman want to see the size of the fish also it can block your view in determining which species it may be. That is a couple of reasons but their is also other factors if you’re just now learning to use the unit I would suggest running it with the fish ID on and off to help you determine what is what. Basically play around with it every one has different opinions on how to use it just study it and take your time.

@@beans316 great question I’ve never used fish ID while using side or down imaging. Although it sounds tough but it’s not just look at the shadows on the unit you will see them in the shape of a fish or they will cast a shadow that is farther away from the fish which indicates something is above the bottom.

When were you talking about down imaging you called it down view? you said when you are at 45 feet to set the lower to 60 ft? Then you said to set it about 15 feet above that? Do you mean deeper?
@coltonposeyfishingАй бұрын
@@michaelmcdonough7946 Thanks for watching and commenting! I’m not 100 percent sure what you are asking it may be the way that I am reading the question. Although yes I typically set mine 15ft below my target depth to get a more complete bottom composition view. But with these new units (2023 and up) it does not hurt to leave them on auto as the technology is more new user friendly in the present, although do not use your side imaging on auto use the multiplication method for better quality. Hope that answers your question and thanks for watching!

My boats in storage and trying to learn my Helix 9 msi unit hooked up to a rechargeable 12v battery. Can I pull up SI sensitivity and enhance in custom mode or do I have to be in the boat and on the water?
@coltonposeyfishing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and just put the unit into simulation mode and you can tweak all your settings to get more familiar with them. Just a side note when you’re on the water their is no perfect setting for every situation, what I did when I first started learning to use my electronics is take notes for yourself and keep them in your boat when you’re on the water refer back to them whenever you get it slightly out of wack and before long it becomes like muscle memory.

Great video, but I wish you had of gone into better detail of transducer selection. I also have to Helix 9s with SI/DI and 2D CHIRP that I installed this past spring. I find as I toggle through the Sonar settings I have numerous choices for transducer. I am always wondering which one should I really be using. I have the SI shoe style transducer in the rear and the typical small puck style on the trolling motor. It would be great if you could do a quick tutorial on just the transducers and how they work, and how you select the right setting. Hope this makes sense!! Sorry to be so stupid about this....Thanks
@coltonposeyfishing2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply and I never really considered doing a tutorial on this subject. Although as far as transducer selection goes on your console you will need to identify what transducer you are using and select appropriately. As for the trolling motor it has no value to run anything more than chirp sonar unless you are moving at a constant speed. Hope that helps!

Great video, would you reccomend the 360 sonar with the Helix 12 Gen? jim
@coltonposeyfishing3 жыл бұрын
It just all depends on your perspective of what you’re trying to do. Does it help in locating and catching fish absolutely, but on the other side of the view you can still catch just as many fish without spending a ton of money on electronics. The biggest mistake I see people make including myself at one time is if I buy this I will catch more fish which is true and false because if you don’t have seasonal patterns dialed in and bait confidence than you’re just providing a paycheck to the manufacturer. So yes it is worth the money only if you are already tuned in and well versed in using your electronics. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching and it is difficult to give an absolute answer without seeing it for myself but if this doesn’t answer your question look me up on Facebook or Instagram and I will be able to help you more with the unit. When you go to your frequency it should say mghz or megahertz that is how you know you are using the mega imaging. When you go to your settings screen it will let you enable and disable different views if you want the si and di on the same screen just enable the dual view. Hope that helps thank you for watching.

I just bought a Helix 7 MSI and installed on my kayak. I was in a Bayou about 10 feet deep. The bait fish were so thick at about 5 that the unit would flash the depth to be 5 feet. Is there a sensitivity adjustment I need to change to eliminate this? I am in custom mode but most settings are factory.

Yes so when you menu it will pull up your options on your unit go up to sensitivity it will be right above contrast. You will have to adjust it on a trip to trip basis. Hope that helps thanks for watching!!!

Where are the fish in relationship to boat when side imaging..Thanks
@coltonposeyfishing2 жыл бұрын
At the top of your unit where the arrow is will be your location with that in mind let’s say you have your settings on 30ft for side imaging. If a fish is straight out from the side of your boat the fish will be within 30ft of your location now if you see a fish on your unit that is behind you the distance of the fish from your location will depend on chart speed. The easiest way to learn how far a fish is from where you saw the fish is to simply mark the fish and use the marker on your maps to target the fish. I hope that helps thanks for watching!

@coltonposeyfishing Жыл бұрын
Thank you for contacting me, first let’s talk about 2D sonar. With 2D the greater the arch the bigger the fish, with Down imaging the brighter and more solid/large the dot is the bigger the fish, with side imaging it is a little more complex you can look at the shadows of fish on your side imaging to determine the size of the fish. The bigger the shadow the bigger the fish you can also compare to other objects you see underwater for instance if you see a boulder that is 1ft in diameter if their is fish next to it that is around the length of the boulder on your unit then you know it is around that large. Also it does not matter if it is a 998c unit or a new helix the details apply to both and all fish finders. I’m attaching a link to an article that may interest you discussing this topic.
