This is because AMD FSR has a sharpness filter that only applies when it's active. You can achieve the same effect by using a sharpness filter in the Nvidia overlay or using Reshade. I'd recommend either of those approaches, because 99 render resolution can cause some textures to have a strange grid effect (most visible currently in Bozja).

DLSS is actually just weirdly implemented. When having DRS set to Activate only at 30/60fps it defaults to TSCMAA at Native Resolution and aggressively targets the given fps with a high bias to image quality when you reach that threshold (only when under the framerate target on those two it will engage DLSS) Setting it to Always On results in it at least always being in Quality mode at worst, but it still kinda does it's own thing mostly and is uncontrollable for consistent performance unlike the TSCMAA+FSR1 option. Really hope Creative Studio 3 fixes this and adds the standard DLSS Settings (Quality, Balance, Performance, Ultra Performance), and DLAA (Using the ML pipeline of DLSS just for Anti-Aliasing). Or at the very least once Dalamud is updated someone makes a convenient plugin to do it (as the Dlss tweaks mod ATM seemingly can't work with Reshade, and is a lot more hard to work with requiring restarts between edits to DLSS Profiles)

The difference between 100 and 99 is that the engine turns on the resolution scaling which IN ITSELF requires additional processing power.. so staying at the exact 100% resolution requires 0% rescaling processing power while 99 requires the maximum amount of processing power for rescaling.. it is counter-intuitive but working as intended. This is why you have a slider in the first place.. the lower you set the scaling the more FPS gain you will have. This can ofc. behave extremely different depending on the resolution and HZ you play as well as your hardware. Also as long as you have a Nvidia card you should always go with nvidia dlss. The applied "greyed out" settings do not have any impact on nvidia dlss. Important for DLSS: >>>> *when you have Nvidia DLSS enabled do not set it to "always enabled". Especially if you are rendering without FPS/HZ limitation this can cause the jankiest horrible looking graphics in the weirdest situations just cause the engine will want to render the maximum fps* (its caused by bottleneck racing between CPU and GPU, if the CPU allows for high fps the gpu will try to get as many fps as possible hence your graphics will turn into crap just to get as high fps as possible, while when the cpu is already bottlenecked the graphics will be smooth since the gpu is not using 100%) So when your CPU is not bottlenecked and can give the gpu the potential to render 500fps rather than 120fps you will run into severely worse graphics since the GPU needs to renderscale more than 4x the amount of frames so your 4K textures turn into 120p. Applying vertical sync or a frame rate cap will prevent this.. the CPU will be restraint to render only e.g. 120fps thus the gpu only needs to apply renderscale to 120fps. For all this resolution scaling stuff balance is what you need to find for your specific hardware.. and that balance is often very depending on the situation.. just go from outside with lots of textures to an empty room and you will see.

I do recommend TSCMAA + Camera Jittering. The Camera Jittering means that the anti-aliasing (AA) is also working when not moving the camera. With just the regular TSCMAA, the AA only works when you move the camera, and when the camera is stationary, the AA is not active, making the game look terrible. TSCMAA + Camera Jittering works by applying AA consistently, even when the camera is still. Try it yourself ingame and you can see what I mean.

AA is never available when you use upscaling. Not sure why this is even a topic of conversation.
@OrionXIXI4 ай бұрын
DLSS is definitely bugged right now though, and was in exactly the same way in both versions of the benchmark. If you set it the threshold to anything but "below 30", after some time in-game, it will lock to a SUPER low internal resolution and everything becomes noticeably pixelated. This likely also happens if you ever dip below 30 with this setting but most players probably won't have that issue. It is likely simply using full res and DLAA when not applying scaling, but then they should've just called it DLAA in that case. In general, the game has the single worst implementation of DLSS I've seen in any game so far, and I'd really hoped they'd fix it between the benchmark and release, but any notice of it likely got lost in the noise of everyone upset about the character appearance changes.

I find the DLSS version they include and TSCMAA cause a blur aura around things in motion similar to TAA. AMD FSR 100%, disable dynamic, with FXAA/Off is the same as the old graphics but FSR/DLSS can give a performance boost. Neat trick you can do with Nvidia RTX or newer cards is replace the nvngx_dlss.dll in the XIV/game folder with a newer version to reduce motion blur caused by the DLSS anti-aliasing. You can force DLAA on with the third party configurator. If you have performance headroom, then set DSR in the Nvidia control panel to a DL enabled super-resolution. DSR Smoothness is the sharpening filter with 100=0% and 0=100%, start with 50 and decrease if UI is blurry/increase if over sharpened. In-game set DLSS on, then full-screen at the higher-than-native DLDSR resolution (prob turn up the UI scale too) to render the game in a high-res buffer that then scales down to the monitor, with the performance hit mitigated by DL-DSR & DLSS parts. This can even gain performance from DLSS if you don't pick too high of a resolution. Seems a bit silly to render the game at lower than native then AI scale it to higher than native then scale back to normal, but it just works.

So for DLSS in general if you want the performance boost, you need to set it to alway on. This will cause it to render at a lower resolution and then upscale. However if you are using a high-end graphics card like your 4090 this will only really help if you are at like max setting at 4k. For AMD FSR it's roughly the same thing. If you have it at 100 that means it's doing absolutely nothing. Setting it below 100 makes it render the image at that percentage of the resolution and then upscale it. In either case for you, both were doing absolutely nothing because you had them essentially turned off since you specified they would only be applied at under 30fps. As for FPS, AMD FSR at 50 seems to outperform Nvidia DLSS and I don't really see any difference. I am playing on a 4k OLED and sitting roughly 10feet or 3m away from the TV.

With nvidia, you should always use FSR when its available. It hits the same image quality with even more fps but with much less power usage. There are multiple videos showing, that nvidia graphics cards are performing much better with FSR than with DLSS as of right now.

I would want a bit of a help in terms of something that annoys me a little bit. Every time I have my camera go from far to close to my character, and vice versa, a bit of a blur happens around her, probably because it's adjusting textures/models. I wanted a way to remove it if possible. I'm using a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, but looking to upgrade it since I got a new job now.

Thanks for the guide. In the end I ended up going back to using Reshade. The in-game settings just can't seem to make the game look good and it's always blurry and the colors are muted and washed out without reshade. Added some vibrancy and then luma sharpen and I get a better looking game without any of the performance hits.
@hurri-db4 ай бұрын
I got the same opinion re. reshade; unfortunately I crash A LOT with directx and kernel errors and I think it's reshade causing that, as I didn't crash while I had it uninstalled this morning.

If your monitor allows HDR. Windows with automatic HDR applied to ffxiv is a huge uplift and makes the game more vibrant.
@GENKI_INU4 ай бұрын
It's a limitation of the game engine, as mentioned by the devs that the game displays colors and tones the way it does (either being too dark, or washed out, with a slight green tint) The update did add better models, textures, lighting for all light sources which now always casts shadows, and has better material interactivity with light. They can be pretty subtle-looking changes at times, but you are definitely going to need ReShade for post processing to correct or do anything more. Especially because the game lacks much of any post processing to begin with in their rendering pipeline.
