man I got this monitor like 2 days ago. Went from an AOC 1080p60 monitor to this beast of a screen, also first OLED Ive ever owned (besides my phone with AMOLED screen ofc). so far Im still not sure which setting to use. SDR looks better than HDR in any setting (HDR 10 or Dolby Atmos in all available settings). I didnt change anything yet myself besides the premade settings and brightness (it is really very bright, I dont understand anyone who says its not bright enough. It is way brighter than my 1080p60 IPS monitor was, I had that one on 90 to 100 all the time and I turned down my OLED to 60 yesterday. Im not in a completely dark room by any means during daytime. I dont have any sunlight shining on it tho. Atm I settled with "Racing Mode" when waching YT videos and stuff. Today, when I play the new POE league, Im not sure what I use. Yesterday when I quickly tested it, I used the "RTS/RPG mode", it looked the best, many of the other ones were too dark. I hope this video lets me increase the visual experience even further. It already looks amazing. I have to adjust my eyes and brain to a 4k screen of this size tho. Everything looks massively different.s

download the official windows 11 HDR calibration tool. Also make sure you plugged in USB A to B and updated to the latest firmware (MCM105), and in the nvidia panel in resolution you need to let nvidia handle color and set it to 12 bits if using the HDMI 2.1 cable (as you should), or 10 bits if using DP 1.4 / USB-C. If your monitor look extremely grey, washed out, it's a bug. Now, don't turn on HDR if you're not watching HDR content, there's a shortcut for this : Windows + Alt + B. You can try the HDR on a youtube 4K HDR video (it has to say HDR in image quality option), this is a mindblowing difference.

The panel settings I set in Windows (for example Brightness 80, I can change this settings on the PG32UCDM while in HDR) will be exactly the same if I launch a game (while gaming if I go into the panel settings the Brightness will still be at 80)? Panel settings in Windows are synced with panel settings in games, right? The same settings carry on? When I start playing a game, be it native HDR or using Win 11 HDR / RTX HDR, will the same options be available in the monitor's setting? Or new ones will become available compared to what I have while I'm in Windows? Internal panel settings -> the ones that appear when I press the button at the back of the monitor.

I absolutely love this monitor! The quality and graphics are incredible, i have it connected through 2021 MacBook M1 Pro via DisplayPort 1.4-I'm consistently getting 120Hz and 165fps while gaming. However, when I switch to HDR mode, the colors seem washed out, like there's a white film or filter over the screen. In comparison, Dolby Vision displays true, vivid colors with deep blacks. Unfortunately, I can't seem to control any settings while in HDR mode, and I haven't found any guidance or tweaks for HDR on macOS, which is a bit disappointing. Despite this, I'm still very happy with the overall performance!

When you enable HDR mode you will likely see that washing out of the image for desktop and SDR applications, but it should look better when you view actual HDR content. that's a very common observation and issue, which is why it's sensible to only enable HDR mode when you're going to view actual HDR content. some more info here: tftcentral.co.uk/articles/heres-why-you-should-only-enable-hdr-mode-on-your-pc-when-you-are-viewing-hdr-content

Is it normal that it's extremely wonky to set the HDR calibration in some games? For example in Cyberpunk 2077 in the HDR settings, the preview pictures change dramatically when I switch between Gaming HDR and Console HDR, one of them basically deletes all the detail in brighter areas when leaving the peak brightness at 1000-1050 nits. Also had some problems in the windows HDR calibration app, where it basically caps out on around 500 nits on all modes. I assume that's just because of the high APL of that test image, so is it fine to just set the slider to 1000 on both of the peak brightness steps? I saw this quite often where these test images simply are basically useless. I have my HDR currently calibrated to 1050 nits peak, but on the advanced display info it shows 455 nits, it's all a bit confusing 😁. I wonder if some of the HDR problems (some people are noticing) will be ironed out with a firmware update.

@@markkulaitinen9177 I just hope there isn't a big misunderstanding with this whole thing and it is indeed an actual bug. I feel like the gaming mode has the brightest highlights and it also brings out the most details in really bright regions, but then again in some regions, it is also completely overblown.

my problem is that there's no color accurate mode that lets you use wide-gamut when supported without oversaturating everything.... why can't we just have srgb gamut for srgb but when wide gamut is supported, it'd display the better colors?
@tftcentral6 ай бұрын
Those two things can’t work together. The gamut is the colour space of the display that will be active. If you have a wide gamut operating, then when you display a smaller colour space it will mean those colours get “stretched” to the wider colour space and are the over saturated and not accurate. The gamut needs to match the colour space of the content you want to work with if you want it to be accurate, there’s no getting around that
@ameliabuns40586 ай бұрын
@@tftcentral it works on my Mac, and partially acre monitor. Instead of stretching they could be clamped
@tftcentral6 ай бұрын
Well that is possible from this Asus screen too, you just change the colour space setting to sRGB (or whatever you want to use) and it clamps the native panel gamut back to that reference. That will then deliver better accuracy (very good on this model if you check out our review). But the screen is no longer operating in wide gamut mode then. But neither is your current screen

is this monitor still worth 1000$? or is there something better i still have time to return it , ( i have a 4070), kinda annoying to switch between hdr and sdr all the time
@Itachi_RulesАй бұрын
The others choice are: Msi mpg 32urx: same display as asus, lesser build quality, but more reliable customer service (if european, its the same), less features, warmer hot colors, but it comes with an unreliable hdr, due to softwares issues Alienware aw3225q: same quality for less the price, it comes with curved display, but overall worst performances In the next year should be lauhched the new lg ultra, and it seems quite spicy, but is too early to judge. If i was you, i will stay with asus. You can try switch to msi, but imo in gneral is a little worse
@Itachi_RulesАй бұрын
I forgot, there is even the new Sony inzone m9 ii, but is extremely overpriced and panel is inferior. Compatibility with console is not really a issue, cause all monitors (except for ultra wide and 1440p) perform without an issue Then comed the Sony inzone M10, but is more oriented for competitive gaming, is more centered about performances then image quality.

Please see review here for HDR testing and measurements. tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/asus-rog-swift-pg32ucdm In terms of getting hot, that really depends on how hot it is. I’d say it’s fairly normal to get warm, esp if using at higher brightness levels and for extended periods of time

@TFTCentral When you run the WINDOWS HDR Calibration app, did you notice the FIRMWARE issue with the PG32UCDM yet? In the Max Luminance Test (with HDR enabled) it begins disappearing at only 400 or so nitts, when it shouldn't disappear until 1,000 and then it displays correctly on the MAX FULL FRAME luminance ajustment as it will disappear at exactly 1,000 nitts. ASUS needs to adjust where it cuts off luminance, because on test B in the Calibration app, it should NOT be disappearing at only 400 nitts. I have other 1,000 nitt monitors that complete this test correctly. We need to get ASUS to push an HDR firmware update to address this cut-off that occurs and to make the monitor conform with Windows HDR bettter.
@tftcentral9 ай бұрын
It’s not something we tested and we no longer have access to the screen. But I wouldn’t be worried about it cutting anything off or causing problems. That tool doesn’t impact your peak brightness. It will just be a mismatch with the info being read from the monitor in the tool, but the scale shown is fairly meaningless
