Under the System > Display > HDR settings, while turning 'use hdr' to on, the "SDR content brightness" slider does impact brightness when adjusting even when in HDR mode. What do you suggest this be set to? I believe the default was 30 or around there, thank you.
@tftcentralАй бұрын
That only impacts the brightness of SDR content like your desktop and office applications when viewing them within HDR mode. It won’t impact actual HDR content brightness in any way. But I would not recommend using HDR mode in windows unless you’re viewing actual HDR content. Thinking of buying a C3, I have a question: you set the OLED Pixel Brightness to 41 and say it removes the need for ABL. Does that mean that the autodimming will never happen? I used to have an LG LCD around 5 years ago plugged into my PC, and every time I went on a very white or bright yellow website the whole screen dimmed. It drove me crazy. I'm currently using a Samsung Q70A TV (4K 120hz) as my monitor, and it's pretty good, but I want to try OLED, but the dimming is what's making me hestitate. I do play games, but I also surf a whole lot.
@tftcentral3 ай бұрын
Yes thats correct. You need to keep the overall luminance low for this to happen though. 41% should return you a luminance of ~120 nits which in our testing was maintained regardless of the APL / window size / content and offered a uniform brightness behaviour. Higher settings showed ABL dimming though for the largest APL (100% full white screen would dim a bit relative to smaller samples)

I use these HDR general settings for regular TV/movies/YT and the HDR gaming settings for my PS5 Slim. They seem perfect except for one thing. I changed the color temperature from warm 50 to 0 because I found it too yellowish. But I have two questions. I turned on AMD FreeSync Premium, will this improve the PS5 image? Also, I see this nowhere in any calibration video of the LG C3, the 4:4:4 Pass Through setting. It says it's meant for a HDMI coupled PC but when I turn it on or off on PS5 I see colors changing and maybe something with the sharpness but I'm not sure if its improving the image or not. What do you think about this setting? When I installed my recently bought PS5 Slim the LG C3 put the 4:4:4 Pass Through setting on by default for PS5 Slim.
@tftcentral Жыл бұрын
I would leave FreeSync disabled for PS5 use as that will instead use HDMI-VRR for variable refresh rates. You should find that the console still lists VRR support and allows you to turn it on when FreeSync is disabled. The PS5 cannot support 444 chroma anyway, its limit is 422. What’s the alternative settings for that option?
@MMCXCIV Жыл бұрын
@@tftcentralThank you for your reply. I will turn off both options then. The 4:4:4 Pass Through setting can be either turned on or off. @ZStrelok you can prob get away with just two modes, one for SDR and one for HDR. The screen will remember which one you were using between those two modes too so you won’t have to keep switching. So what's the actual reason for changing it to Warm 50? Is it "True White" even though it looks Yellow at first? What's the reason for the Cool Default look in the first place?
@tftcentral Жыл бұрын
It’s a normal D65 /6500K but may take some getting used to compared with the very cool panel native which is what seems to be used for the default
@TheLiddokun9 ай бұрын
I think the reason is that the default activates the white subpixels only for "0" color temp. And it so happens that the white subpixels are really blue tint, kinda like older cheap LED lights. It's not accurate, sunlight is like 5700K mid day, incandescent lights are like 3000K. the white subpixels are like 9000K or 10000K! Changing to warm 50 adds a little red subpixel to balance it out and make it accurate.

Well as it’s oled it’s never ideal for work with static elements if that’s your primary use, but can certainly handle it fine if you’re also using the screen with more general dynamic content. The screen size and the ability to use the 4K res without needing scaling give you a nice big area to work with which is great

Hi! I'm really sorry to bother you with my questions yet again, but in case you may clear this up for me, I'll be hugely grateful. Am I getting it right that LG C3 set to Game Optimizer picture mode has lower input latency at 60 Hz than most OLED monitors that have it in the 12-15 ms range, like MSI's MPG 271QRX and MPG 321URX for example? And with it disabled (but with PC Mode enabled still?) it's basically the same (+/-2 ms) as with those monitors? Also, do I get it right that the color luminance difference between WOLED and QD-OLED is irrelevant under SDR at least, since peak brighter in this mode is lower than (or rather just at) the point at which it would become unattainable for the former by mixing the primaries without help from white subpixels? Or may this aspect show itself with secondary (CMY) colors still? Thank you for your amazing work!
@tftcentral4 ай бұрын
The C3 has a reasonably low input lag at 60Hz in Game Optimizer mode, and that's probably a reflection of it;s low overall refresh rate max (120Hz). Overall the lag on the C3 is very good for a TV we found. And for SDR applications, it's very likely that even the max SDR brightness could be achieved with an RGB additive approach, without needing to use the white pixel boost, that's likely only used for HDR and low APL % scenes. Although a QD-OLED screen could still look more colourful even in SDR thanks to the wider colour gamut, unless of course you're running an sRGB emulation for SDR.
@juanblanco78984 ай бұрын
@@tftcentral Got it, thank you. Glad to know that I was able to figure the color luminance/volume issue for myself, though only thanks to your wonderful article on the matter. Thank you very much for all the research and educational work! Do I get it right that it's expected for displays with higher native refresh rates to generally have a lower input lag at low refresh rates VS displays with lower native refresh rates? With regards to input lag, I'm trying to confirm that I'm not misinterpreting you and the results for C3 and MSI's monitors are directly comparable, for two reasons: 1. As per RTings reviews, LG C3 has an input lag of ~11 Ms even in Game Optimizer mode with "Boost" enabled (which is a discrepancy that can be easily attributed to methodological differences). But at the same time the figures for MSI's models are almost identical to yours (14,5 Ms @ 60 Hz for MPG 271QRX and 13,5 Ms @ 60 Hz for MPG 321URX), which I find confusing. Per your testing the results are: MPG 321URX ~ 13,5 Ms @ 60 Hz MPG 271QRX ~ 14,4 Ms @ 60 Hz LG C3 ~ 13,1 Ms @ 60 Hz Outside of Game Optimizer mode + PC Mode LG C3 ~ 4,2 Ms @ 60 Hz Game Optimizer mode (Standard) LG C3 ~ 1,6 Ms @ 60 Hz Game Optimizer mode (Boost) While I would have expected for your and RTings results to differ, I would expect it to be in a consistent manner. 2. Again, as per RTings reviews, the difference between LG C2 and C3 in terms of input lag are less than 1 Ms, while you found that the input lag is meaningfully lower on C3 (same was stated at RTings, but only outside of Game Optimizer mode). Please, excuse me for referring heavily to RTings, but I'm just trying to make as much sense from all the available information I can get access to. Could you tell wether you measure input lag with VRR disabled or enabled, as I wasn't able to find any mention of that in your written reviews and the article on input lag measurements from your site. As I understand it, you don't include frame hold times in your input lag values, in contrast to RTings. This would explain the discrepancy in measured input lag figures for LG C3, as their ~10,4 figure alignes perfectly with your results after subtracting the 1/2 of the frame hold time (~8,4 Ms). But then the result for MSI's monitors don't add up. Since they should have been around 23 Ms per RTings by that logic. I'm not trying to learn about someone else's methodology from you, but rather get a former grasp on yours to try and figure out the explanation. Please, forgive me all the pestering. I'll do my best to do as much of research on other issues on which there's information to get elsewhere, via other sources, so as not to abuse your responsiveness and eagerness to help any longer.
@tftcentral4 ай бұрын
@juanblanco7898 we generally test lag with VRR enabled as it’s the more common user scenario, but it rarely makes any difference in our measurements anyway. Rtings often have some very different results to ours and other sites, but I don’t know their methodology and obv can only vouch for the figures we have measured
@juanblanco78984 ай бұрын
@@tftcentral Thank you, that helps! As I understand it, RTings have been taking measurements with VRR disabled for some time now. It seems like that doesn't make a meaningful difference. Thankfully, as I'm not planning to use VRR due to the flickering issue. Now that I've taken a look at their review of 42" LG C4, I think it all mainly comes down to integrating half of the frame hold time in their values. When subtracting those the results are within a margin of error from yours. Unless there were tangible improvements in this regard from C3 to C4 due to an upgraded image processor, which seems unlikely to me. This is encouraging, as I now may somewhat confidently count this as yet another advantage for C4 over MSI's QD-OLEDs for my potential use cases and applications. Thank you very much yet again! 🙏🏻

@tftcentral Thank you, that helps! As I understand it, RTings have been taking measurements with VRR disabled for some time now. Thankfully, it seems like that doesn't make a meaningful difference most of the time and, what's most important, in this particular case with C3/C4.
