There is one thing I have to mention regarding classic phone contracts: When you choose one of these with a phone included and you want to stay with the same provider for at least another two years after the initial two year period is over, make sure to renegotiate. This way you can either pick a new phone or choose a cheaper contract without a new phone. Otherwise you will keep paying the higher costs without getting any benefit from it.

One Tipp may other "full contract provider" have equal options: In my case , Vodafone let me choose one entertainment option wich won t be credited on data allowance. In my case, music streams are not counted on my monthly data. (Includes Deezer or Spotify data may others too) They offer other varieties to choose f.e. social meedia, chating or video apps.

@simplegermany
@simplegermany 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot! 😊 The procedure to porting your phone number varies from provider to provider. Generally speaking though, you need to inform your new provider that you want to keep your current number and you need to ask your current provider to release your phone number. Some require you to fill a form others have an online form. Once you have done both the providers communicate with each other and let you know the date the number will be ported.
@Milaps
@Milaps 2 жыл бұрын
@@simplegermany Yeah that is the problem only in a new country when you don't want to lose your number while switching it looks too complicated and obviously it is. because there is no transparency and not clearly communicated anywhere how to do it. For example in India, it is easy for someone to change their number and all the terms and conditions are easily available and accessible for all. And the procedure is the same for all network providers. But anyway, thanks to you I am switching to SIMon Mobile in a few days. where it is easy to keep the same mobile number and I hope no complications arise later on. Everything related to bureaucratic work is unnecessarily complicated in Germany. They should get a lot of UX Designers and make everything simple.

Thank you for a yet again right on time video (sick of Vodafone's exuberant prices :D)! I was wondering, any chance you can make a video on what's currently happening with the prices for literally everything (gas, electricity, petrol, etc)? Anything regular people can do to offset those massive changes (went from 75 eur a month for electricity to 135!). Kind of desperate here, WTH is happening, is it normal? :/
@simplegermany
@simplegermany 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Anna, yeah the market is going a bit crazy right now and reasons are various, politics, scarcity, more demand, the Covid crisis, etc. To save on gas and electricity (other than reducing your consumption), the best way is to change providers (here is our guide on it: www.simplegermany.com/best-electricity-provider-germany/. Before prices increased so drastically we got a contract with a provider with a guaranteed fixed price for 2 years and have thus not had any increase since (although we know from the news that some providers cancelled valid contracts sometimes because of that reason). If you have a price increase, you have the right to cancel your contract within a certain time frame, so check whether you still have that right and compare to other providers. 😊
@anchouse94
@anchouse94 2 жыл бұрын
@@simplegermany yeah, I think I fell into this situation by thinking that a provider with a one month Kündigungsfrist was a better option (last year, before the new changes), but they also were very 'agile' with prices, so it was immediately reflected in the monthly invoice when shit hit the fan :D changing to a more traditional providers now, huh, who would have thought! :D Thank you, Simple Germany, I really use your website for all these things!

The one with the contract and getting a new phone for free along with it is a smart marketing gag - in the end the basic fee (Grundgebuehr) you pay will be higher than the phone is worth it altogether. On top of that you pay your calls and internet, whatever you used aswell. So in the long run it can get very costly. So attention before you make a decision. Don't get lured into quick decisions by the thought of a brand new shiny flashy mobile. Just to keep in mind of the tricks and psychology of the retail industry

@simplegermany
@simplegermany 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Justyna! Generally speaking, no mobile contract will include a flat rate to call other EU countries form Germany. You would need to speak to the provider you are interested in directly. Every mobile provider offers EU Roaming. But that service is mainly used when you have a German phone number and are in another EU country.

Tons of important information! Well, I am a bit of that.. how Yvonne said it.. 'junky of high speed' 😂 Not fanatic though, just as long as I feel comfortable and trust my provider about good speed. When I landed in Berlin, Apr. 2019, my phone automatically connected to Vodafone. I just started seeing the logo and the name in the upper left corner, and my internet was Excellent all.the.time., including down in the U-bahn. I remember that, cause I loved seeing the map during the ride. 🙂 Not to mention I was able to live-stream perfect quality from the concert. I really really like this Simon Mobile! Plus, it is Vodafone, so high speed - ✅ 😉 So in Düsseldorf you're happy with Vodafone, while the other two are also not bad options at all, I take it this way.. Will definitely use your links when time comes for choosing and acting smart about one of the most important moves! Oh, and yes, I'll be looking forward to the topic of the landlines. 📞

Great video! I have a question, just step by step instruction, for example, if you land in German airport for the 1st time , and don’t know anything or anyone around there, where do you go to get that simcard? If you need to use the phone right away. I’m from the USA, and we don’t deal with SIM cards here like it’s in Europe. We just get them already installed in our phones. So where do you go, where do you drive? Can you just buy them in some kinda kiosk? Thank you in advance! Your videos are very helpful. 👍🏻
@simplegermany

That depends on the airport ☺️ if you land at an international airport like Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Düsseldorf, you may find a telecommunications kiosk once you exit the baggage pickup area. Your best bet is to ask an airport staff member - they usually speak English.

It‘s kinda random if you can get fiber access or not. Sometimes you only have crappy ADSL in a newly build home, or fiber in a really old house. That‘s because providers often install the fiber for „free“ if they deploy it and you make a contract. Otherwise, Vodafone Cable and Telekom VDSL can be very good but it depends on where you live. If you choose Telekom DSL, you can additionally get unlimited 5G for 40€/month.

@simplegermany

Usually for porting an number from one provider to another, you will need to let your current provider know that you want to port the number, so that they release it and once that is done your new provider can pull that number. There is usually a fee of around 6,25 euros you would pay your old provider for this. And some new providers offer up to 25 euros bonus for taking your current number with you. Hope that helps!

There's something I don't get about SIM cards. For example for Aldi SIM Card, every 'Tarifoption' has a specific amount of volume data (2GB, 3GB, 6GB...) but then also a "Basispreis" of 0,24€/MB. So if, say, I prepay 10€ I will only actually have 10€/0,24€ per MB = 41MB, which is very little. I would need to prepay a lot to effectively reach 2GB used, which is quite costly.
@simplegermany
@simplegermany 2 жыл бұрын
That's why you need to choose a Tarif, to not pay by usage, but have a certain amount of GB included every month.

Hello. as long as I will be settled in Germany soon and still don't have a sim card, can I go with aldi talk at first for example and then move to SimOn, just the first day of being with aldi talk, to continue benefiting from the monthly discount of SimOn. I thought that I can cancel the membership with Alditalk within the first 14 days. No ?

We can’t confirm if a 14 day swap will be ok or taken as fraud. We are not fans of abusing things 😉. So we would stay with Aldi at least a few months.

If you give a friend a hotspot for a short period of time, it should be fine. But permanently it could cause you trouble. You need to check the regulations from your provider.

Giving a hotspot itself is legal (but sometimes against the provider‘s ToS), but if you friend would torrent something, or do other illegal things you can get fined.

Hey Jag, you can also get SimOn at shops like supermarkets or electronic shops like Saturn or Media Markt. As far as we know, you will need your ID, and German bank account. They might also ask for a German address, but you can put a temporary one (so no Anmeldung necessary), as far as we know.

Just one question, with all these providers, is it free to call anywhere in Europe from Germany?
@simplegermany

No, it is not. Calls are only unlimited and free to German numbers. So if you are traveling in Europe and call another German number that is included. But if you are in Germany and want to call a French number, you will pay extra. Only Lebara includes certain minutes to call abroad for free.

Can I change my sim card connection to another, without changing my number
@simplegermany
@simplegermany 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. It is called Rufnummermitnahme or Portierung.

In France, my wife pays 9 euros for 40 GB in 4G, and I pay 19 euros for 100 GB in 5G including free roaming and substantial amounts of data in the EU + UK, without obligation of commitment. With this money, you cannot even get 3GB without commitment in Germany. Unless I'm missing something, this very much looks like price gouging.
