Thanks for yet another great video! A quick tip for switching providers: always remember to send the old router back to the old provider. If you fail to send it back immediately, they would charge you extra fees or even a monthly fine (!) until they get it back. So make sure to not leave any loose ends once quitting a contract :)

In Israel the internet is 1000 mb/s and you can cancel any day and then you’re charged only for the time you were on contract until day of cancellation. How weird that Germany is still Behind on this.

One recommendation to people who already have internet at home is to check the speed using one of the free websites online. I was paying 69€ pm for 1000Mbps (don’t ask me how I ended up with that plan) and the actual speed I was getting was less than 50 Mbps. 🙀 I was nearing 24 months so I decided to opt for a cheaper 50 Mbps package for 19€. Also companies like Vodafone don’t disclose all offers online. I called up their hotline and inquired and got this new plan. They want you to stay and I think you have the power to negotiate. Also, great video again you guys! Super well researched as usual. I’ve been here over 8 years and am still learning plenty of new things from your videos.

@@kreight_ as they mentioned in the video, the speed is limited to the bandwidth of the cables in your building. So unless you have fiberglass connex at your place it’s useless to get 1000Mbps

Love the channel. I would also love to see a video on German education system. I know it's chaotic and state-specific, but I think you can cover the basics. Not just the types of schools, but also where you can go afterwards from each / possible paths etc. Also stuff like when you start getting a direction with more specialized courses. A friend of us told us something like the moment that her daughter goes to Gymnasium or Realschule/Oberschule selects also some direction like Kunst/Sciences etc... It freaks me out that this happens when kids are only 10!!! I have a 5 year old and feel a little lost

Mbps usually refers to megabits per second, not megabytes per second. To go from megabits to megabytes just divide by 8. Also, German ISPs never mention the minimum speed, always the "up to" speed which means nothing.

thanks for the info. just to add, before you go and register to the internet plan, you must check if DSL or cable is available in your home for the reason that if you choose for example DSL and the apartment is only cable, that is going to be an issue. checking for availability of the DSL or cable will save you time and less hassle.

Really glad to hear about the internet options in Germany. I am from Bangladesh, I am using a 60 Mbps fiber connection (no data limit) and it costs me around $13 USD per month. The fiber connection is usually free and our law does not make the connection to be coming through any certain path. However, in my country the monthly income of people are also lower than Germany and thus for my country's standard my internet connection can be called a luxury 😂!

I think throughout this video (except for one instance I think) you were referring to speed in Megabytes but were perhaps meaning Megabits? But that aside - yet another excellent helpful video, cheers!!! I'm curious about the fiber rollout though - is that generally fiber to the home? Here in Australia we have a mix of fiber to the home but mostly to the node, meaning that the last bit of the connection from the junction box on the street to your house is still copper. Because you know connecting a giant water main into a garden hose is a great way to get the best flow... :-\

Hi Girls, really like your videos and helped me alot in Germany just wanted to point out one thing in terms of the difference between cable and DSL. Cable is not necessarily better as when using cable internet technically you are sharing the max cable bandwidth with your whole neighbourhood that uses cable so if there is a high demand in your area you might notice that your internet will be slower at that time although cable internet might have higher speeds that doesn't mean that you will be receiving that speed all the time. When using DSL you have your own dedicated connection so speeds should be much more stable but the further away you are located physically from your ISP or one of there stations the slower it will be. So each have its pros and cons

By the way germany has a weird way of subscription, in my home country things were charged monthly either electricity, water, or internet. We paid accordingly on how much usage we used after one month, and we can cancel our subscription pretty much anytime. Internet charge is the same every month tho, since it was paid according to speed selected. But as customer we have lot of flexibility if we somehow wanted to change provider. It was a weird concept like how you need to know how much electricity you might be using for one year and then paid it monthly according to those estimation. The same with warm rent that were charged upon you the same every month, who knows you might not even turn on your heater in summer. Just why? 😅 I guess in my case, all electricity and mostly water source is controlled by government. These industry isn‘t private business, so there is no competitor. It was a straightforward price on how much you consume every month.

Ok, so this is going to be very long message. So I have a big question for you two. Hopefully, I can get some help. I and my wife moved to the town of Schopp on April 1st. We tried to go with TKS for the DSL not knowing that the house was wired for 1,000 and got the hole "O not ports are available" We did this twice and got the same information over and over again. So we decied to go with Vodafone. We set up the contract with have a scheduled appointment on May 10 th well that day came and went. Well I decied to drive down to one of the shops that Vodafone has and come to find out that are service was canceled. So we set up a new contract again with the gentalman that worked at the shop. He said all we need was the equipment to come to the house and said it would be their in 4 days. That time came and went. When I called and asked him what was wrong he told me that Vodfone will not tell him anything. So I went to mediamart because I was looking for a new toster and come to see that they have a Vodafone rep who was their as well so I had the contract in the car and we went over it. He noticed that my number was wrong and when he called Vodfone to change it he also found out that Vodafone needed to send a technician out to the house to set everything up. So when they tried to call to make the appointment they got the wrong number and cancled my service again. So round three, we set up a new contract and the gentailman told me that if I didn't get a phone call by thursday to call him back and find out what happen. Well I had to call him back on thursday but waited until 1 PM just to give the benifit of the doubt. So he calls Vodfone and gets a reply with them saying "We can not install this serivce because the address doesn't have a landline available for said house" Now this worker appologied to me so much while telling me that he has never heard of such things and doesn't understand why and he has been working for Vodafone for well over a year. They tell him to tell me "That we will have to wait until July". Like WTF. So we that means we will be in a house with no internet for about 4 months. Now back gound on the house. This place is wired for both DSL and Cable. The landlord even told me, seeing how he lives in the duplex right next to us and also doesn't see why its being so difficult. He even has 1,000 in his house. I'm not sure whats going on and how to fix this. This place was rented out by a US soldier who had internet in it and the house is obviously wired for it. Why is this becoming a bit of a nightmare? Should we just wait until July or should we reach out to Telecom about this and find out if Vodafone is just dragging their heels?

That is a very weird scenario! Maybe you could try a GigaCube or similar to stop the pain. So you would use the mobile data internet for your home.

Mmh we can’t tell whether they are lying or just being lazy. Maybe you could ask your landlord to help call them and explain the situation?

I am surprised how bad is the internet speed in Germany. You need at least 250 MB/S for any home to take advantage of the technology. Hopefully , the starlik will come to rescue germans by providing much higher speed with cheaper monthly fees.

Dear people, I have a question please. Can I migrate my Internet provider to a different address/apartment? If so, do you guys have experiences with that?.
@simplegermany
@simplegermany 7 ай бұрын
Hi Diego, it depends! If your current provider can also service the area at your new address, you can move your router with you. If not, you would need to cancel your contract and sign up for a new one online with your new location. It is always best to double-check with the provider, though. :)

If Elon Musk has satellites over Germany EU,’Star Link it’s called. Just a thought. It maybe not be as simple as I once thought,but at the least,it’s an option for some. I looked it up. Only in USA,hopefully the entire world by the end of 2022. 99$ but $499 for dish equipment.
