@@Stevem I still think Michiko was better, did you watch that show? it was amazing. so well written, the animation was good, voice acting, fight scenes. Space Dandy was cool, but it wasnt serious, the humor was take it or leave it. I really wouldnt compare it to bebop aside from it being in space

I really love Carole & Tuesday, most of the reason why I love it is because of the music. The music is really good especially in the first half of the series, the music in the second half is still really good though. I'm really interested to see the finale of this show (The Miraculous 7 Minutes) because from what I see so far, the miraculous 7 minutes will take place at an award show.

From what I've seen of part two it's done a lot of building upon itself in a good way, if it ends up being considered better or not I'll leave it to the future generations to decide. Yet I could see this series going down with his best shows if it sticks the landing

Living in Sweden, where most of our pop music is written in English... The part about Japanese characters singing in English would be weird in any way,... It never even entered my mind. Maybe it's a very American mindset, but I think most international audiences just accept multilinguality as normal. If anything, the fact that they speak one language but sing in another heightens the realism for me.

That's an interesting point I did wonder when writing this if perhaps English was like the earth lingo and Japanese is like the Mars language and that popular music is still written in earth lingo, but there was no indication within the series It wasn't something that bothered me really, my preference is Japanese right now, but if it does bother them english speakers they can watch the dub

i watched the first 20 episodes of Carol & Tuesday, and it felt like returning at home after a veeery long time!!! and i don't even want to try to watch it dubbed( i'm italian), i like it very much in japanese and subbed

1. You can't compare Watanabe shows as a whole. That's a rule me and my friends made up when we are talking about anime. 2. I am waiting for the second part to be released so I can binge the whole thing. 3. You definetly have to do a follow up Video when the whole thing is out!!!

1.The way I see it you can totally compare which is your personal favourite, why not it can be fun. 2.Overall the shadow of Bebop culturally means even if a show made by Watanabe was considered better it couldn't have the same impact. 3. Waiting for it all to be out is a good call not long now 4. I believe I will although it might just be part of my super video on Watanabe

super late pass, but as a musician, this is absolutely my favorite of Watanabe’s works, especially because of how directly it reflects what is happening in the various sects of Japan’s music industry. plus i just generally geek out really hard when anime creators/mangaka express their love and adoration of music, something that watanabe has always been about. as for if it’s his “best”, i guess i don’t really operate like that anymore. like i couldn’t pick a “best” Hosoda film, or even a “best” Miyazaki film; i think every work has its place, and it just so happens that carole and tuesday’s place is right inside my heart 😅

It does has a few flaws but its good series nonetheless. IMO not watanabes best (i may reserve judgement until the series finale) but i do admire the world building & social integration it plays on todays media. Music really does bring the world together & thats what i iike about this series.

Being a big fan of bebop and champloo I gave this a try and about halfway through part 1 it finally grew on me. After finishing part 1 last night I put on bebop and actually found myself switching back to carole and tuesday. His shows really make you care and the viewers in such a unique way express this. Are his other shows worth checking out or is it worth it to find part 2 in English sub? I haven't watched your other videos yet, I will but do you make any about Lupin the third? Definitely my favorite show so far. Great video, thank you so much.

To me the show excelled when it was about C&T making music and their slice of life adventures, and it showed its weaknesses in the writing when it tried to make the "plot" happen. All the dramatic and political stuff kind of didnt land, it mostly felt like everything was tacked on and stuff happened or plot points were introduced out of nowhere for plot convenience, felt shallow. It's a shame, because I really love how the show looks and how it felt initially, the characters and the world... it went from a possible 9 down to a 7.7 or so.

I was really excited for the show and the premise seemed great. The first half is really charming but it feels like animation wise its lacking heavily in consistency. As of the music tournament, I felt similar to how you did, it felt weird but needed. As for the second half I'm becoming disappointed. I think what makes Bebop, Champloo, and Dandy shine is each episode felt like an experiment and was trying something new, those episodes often stand out more than the "main" story episodes but C&T feels like its trying to just have a straight forward plot and the episodes don't always feel worth it, a few nice moments here and there and before you know it the episode is over. *SPOILERS* I think the show never wants to commit to its overarching drama and doesn't know what to do with its characters sometimes. Tuesdays brother looking for her in the beginning just goes away, her kidnapping which while was cool resolves itself really quickly and didnt feel like it had the impact it should have (though it was a good wedge to throw at them and it was cool they technically didnt win the show). Carols Dad just showing up and leaving and Angelas stalker plot just feels like nothing to me. *END SPOILERS* I still like the show but I don't think it'll have the impact of any of Watanabes other series.

There are a lot of strands it's going to have to work out, It does sometimes feeel as if a plot point is there to cut down a characters intent for now, I do wonder if Carole and Tuesday might lead into another series afterwards it's not like it couldn't continue. Carole & Tuesday is not episodic but kinda has elements of it oppose to the trilogy of watanabe which were episodic mess abouts SPOILERS I think the part with Tuesday brother is expanded upon later in that he chose to stop looking for her since he wanted her to peruse music and he was the one who gave her the guitar so it seems fitting in grand scheme of it his character is only secondary. The Kidnapping is very convenient and is solved fast then the plot point kind of ends, though I liked the execution there isnt much other follow from it. Carole's Dad was a little hard for me to understand since he's implying he has more sentence to serve but is also allowed on Mars not sure how that works, it seeems he was there to expand upon Carole's past and give her closure on her family ties. If that goes anywhere later I don't know. Angela's stalker seemed like a subset to the Tuesday one but more extreme I think the idea is it was to push her down a more isolated and paranoid path we are seeing in ep 21 But I do agree that C&T handles a lot of its plot point episodically in that the strands are just cut until brought up later or not, say for example there's an ep in part 2 where Tuesday has a crush on a journalist and she gets hurt etc and the ending the episode is very poetic but doesn't lead to much after outside Tuesday stops talking to him. END SPOILERS From what I've seen of Part 2 I've enjoyed it more than Part 1 in a lot of ways it hasn't felt as fixed in place, I'll reserve judgement on where the series lands in his legacy until its finished.

The sentiment of the title is more about the buzz around the show and the sad state of affairs that the only way Watanabe's shows outside Bebop can get press is by making such statements. If carole and tuesday will be considered that way who knows ANN has literally already crowned it number 2 best show of Shinichiro's after seeing 12 eps which is kind of insane , so I have no doubt they'll make such a statement after the show is done Personally Im not sure where I'd put it though if it sticks the landing we could be talking top 5 or top 3

I think the k-on comparison is spot on. Both are not shows with much depth but it's on purpose. That said, Watanabe sucks at female characters and I think the light go-lucky tone is a bit of a way for him to get around that handicap.

I think Carole and Tuesday is Watanabe's weakest work so far, the characters and story in Kids on the Slope were far more compelling. It hurts to say that I had to kind of force myself through this, and I love slice of life, including K-ON.

Carole and Tuesday is a good time, but I wish they let the characters breath, have more slice of life moments that just add more depth and chemistry to the characters and the world. It's frustrating seeing them force in drama. I feel like most of his other shows did a better job at that. My ranking: Samurai Champloo Space Dandy Cowboy Bebop Carol and Tuesday Kids on the Slope

I couldn't get past 6 episodes, I've only seen Bebop from Watanabe but this doesn't feel like it's made by the same person. The animation really drags it down so much for me. It goes from passable to awful at times and there are many backdrops that are filled in with really jarring cgi. Bebop is a marvel to look at in all aspects while this falls completely flat and uninspired. I really have no idea why it's getting the praise that it is. To me it seems like many people can easily forgive animation quality for a tv series but to me it's almost the most important aspect. If you're going to tell a story using animation then you need to use the medium to its full potential. I can't even give credit to the setting because the futuristic city is so boring and generic, I really am dumbfounded that people like it so much. I've seen clips from Champloo and Space Dandy and the animation there has life to it, I look forward to getting around to watching those eventually. Now I have to admit I'm not the most avid anime watcher and I think that's probably why I'm not a fan of this show because I don't consume myself with every series that exists therefore something mediocre doesn't stand out to me at all. That might be something very condescending for me to say but the story and characters here are nothing special enough to carry the awful presentation.

If it is on HiDive it doesn't show up when I search for it there. And even if it was there, like Legend of the Galactic Heroes, I cannot watch it there due to region blocking (I live in Sweden) Same thing with Crunchyroll. Doesn't even show up as a search result. Probably because I am deemed not worthy due to my locality. Obvious answer is "get a VPN!"... But really.. all that does is to enable the shitty region system as it is. And streaming services don't even get to know that they could have audiences outside of approved regions. And with pirate sites, I have no idea where the ad revenue goes there, but it sure ain't towards the underpaid animators who slave away producing the content I love to watch.

Yeah , though I also noticed in American Pop they don't sync up the playing with the animation musically but the lip sync is tighter probs because the film had a lot more time and they're animating on 1s

@@madrugaiden2317 This is true, there's another reason they tend to get away with it more too which is just how many less syllables there are in Japanese. In K-on's performances while the music isnt synced properly and they tend to change angle to distract, the mouth shapes are pretty good

Can i ask why people are so against realism? Cybelle and the black knight are real dangers that people deal with especially if their famous, need an example? In season 3 of aggretsuko there is fan who is creeepy as hell, doesnt like or approve of the direction aggretsuko is taking his fav band and decides to do something evil about it, is it creepy yes is it wrong yes but is it real very much so yes. Why would u shy away from things in the real world

I really wanted C&T to be a great show but it's really not in my opinion. It's good, but not great. I really don't like the decision to make the world of the show so attached to ours with Grammys and Insta. It would've been fine if they went creative with it, for example, if the futuristic Instagram let you share holograms or something but it's just plain old Insta with the same design we have now IRL. And the music was also a bit disappointing. It's not bad and the quality of singing is spectacular but the show constantly tells us via characters' reaction that "THIS IS THE GREATEST SONG, IT'S SO MOVING AND TOUCHING" and the audience in the show would cry and give a standing ovation but the songs feel so... generic. Of course with music you can't please everyone but if you know that the impact of a performance relies solely on how much the viewer likes the song don't try to tell them how they are supposed to feel.

It's kind of the problem when you make a series like this since in the past Watanabes OSTs have elevated the action on screen but its like 50/50 this stuff is 80/20 a lot of the time where all you are watching is someone perform a song that's roto'd on screen in you like that then great if you aren't into it then it's not going to work as well as any of his other shows

@@miker1014 Bebop has a kind of impact that's almost impossible to recreate now since it came out along side Adult swim and blewup with this newer trend of mature anime on late night TV, that it came from this first time full TV anime director with little reputation in West, blew a lot of people away. NOw its hard to contextualize that event , when i was younger I could watch bebop on TV very late on an obscure channel and at the time it was one of the only adult style anime I could do that with, this is before the huge boost in streaming. Nowadays your spoiled for choice and if anime is or isnt on tv doesnt mean much.
