Looks great and I'm thinking of doing the same... my only concern... without cutting out the rectangular oil drain hole, will it hold muddy water like a bowl every time you hit puddles or wash it etc?? Or will you have to lay the bike over on its side after it gets wet? Either way, great mod! And thanks for sharing this project!

It's possible... not sure. But if it does because it's already glued around the hole, it's just a cut out fix. Great comment!!!

Does it cause engine to run hotter ?? Those skid plates make the engine run hotter than the stock skid plate already as it is. Im guessing the extra sound dampening material would trap even more heat ?

The rubber mat doesn't melt or burn. It's not an engine wrap it has air flow. I don't have a concern after testing for 1000s of miles.

I just used car sound deadening material. Cut to fit and lay it down. It has adhesive on the back to stick to the skid plate. Been running it that way for several years with no problems.

I'm sure a thinner mat would work. I use as you know the Walmart Mainstays black kitchen mat. Glad to help. Thank you!

I've got some silicone discs, like small furniture bumpers. Thinking I might try and place them, wedged between parts of the engine... Not sure if it'll be enough, but I'll find out soon enough :)

I did this mod 2x. It requires fully covering the Skid plate wings at minimum or completely covering the skid plate. I get zero reflected engine noise fully covered. Hope this helps.

I did this to my wr250r but used gorilla spray adhesive. I doesn't make a sound now. Thanks for the idea!

I have most of my accessories before I got my TW. I waited six months for a new one but then a gently used 2013 popped up so I snagged it. I only rode it once with the stock skid plate. Noise reduction would be nice so I am giving this some thought. Great video.

Genius, I have the black anodized skid plate, so the Wal-mart mod will be even less noticeable! haha.
