AXP Skid Plate Review and Installation

I have the same skidplate on my 18 TE250. I purchased the oil change set up from the guy on Tokyo off-road and I have to say it makes changing the oil clean and easy, no need to remove the skidplate.

I purchased an AXP skid plate for my 19’ ktm 300 xcw and I absolutely love it-!! Great quality and protection, and so simple to install luckily my bike does not have the Pdf suspension with the low hanging shock.

I've been looking at getting one for a FE350,. I've been riding rocky creek beds a lot and my bike is taking a beating with the stock Husky skid plate. The AXP does a good job protecting the water pump from side impacts, I wouldn't saw it down. Also, on KTM and huskys the clutch cover is incredibly brittle and braking it can shatter metal chunks in the case, cleaning it up requires splitting the engine. So a billet clutch cover or a clutch cover protection (cheaper) is a great thing to add if you'e riding a lot of rocks.

I have had an AXP on my bike for a while, it's beyond bomber, super silly sturdy. I have a Bullet Proof linkage guard as well which is probably overkill but it made the install more difficult to try to bend it in place. Oil changes are a bit of a pain. I bought the oil plug extension oil drain tool thingie from Slavens but it's really short and the tube spins or comes off. The clearance is so tight even a zip tie doesn't have enough clearance. I tried some Gorilla tape but the Slavens one needs to be longer. I don't have one but it looks like Tokyo Offroad nailed the drain plug. Not taking off the AXP for an oil change! Anyway great skid plate. The Acerbis one I had on at first was a bit mickey mouse.

I chose the P3 Carbon plate and header guard.

Just put one of these on my 300XC, the rear "forks" shown at 2 minutes into the video hit the frame at the gussets for the linkage and it would not go on. If you get one of these and it won't go on, check that. I redrilled mine, moved the forks in a little and it went right on easy as pie. Just bend the linkage tab ahead of time.

That's a nice looking skid plate. Those AXP skid plates were once distributed by Moose Racing for US sales, not sure if they still are. Nicest skid plate I've found yet for my 17 Husky TE300 is the SXS skid plate. They're made in USA. They are a one piece design, not plastic welded. They also have a 2 layer thick piece that covers the linkage for extra protection. The mounting brackets are a work of art, they're super thick aluminum - very heavy duty. They only offer them in a Black color though, so I suppose that's the only downside, besides that it also is a pain to install.

Just got my Acerbis MC skid plate for my YZ250 in the mail today. I bought the bike brand new in 2015 and I’m just now putting one on. I know, should have gotten one right away. The skid plate feels really solid and was only $60. We’ll see how it does

I run a works connection full metal skid plate (motocross/private track riding). but I will admit I'm a fan of the plastic ones (injection molded plastic) I have seen the metal ones bend and crack. it's seams like the injection molded ones have more forgiveness/flex a bit more against rocks and other things before they break unlike the metal. I like the full coverage of that skid plate. Awesome.

It would then transfer the impact from the expansion chamber to the exhaust flange.. If you want a pretty bike with no scratches or dents then you should probably go buy a Harley.. jk jk dont buy a Harley..way to overpriced and impractical.. kind of like expansion chamber guards.

I have the same skid plate on my 2016 300XC and installation was pretty simple. The only issue was that the middle bracket wouldn't fit between the frame and the engine where the predrilled holes are. All I did was to drill two holes about an inch back in the skid plate in order for the bracket to work. Not a big deal though because most of you know that sometimes plug and play isn't always perfect. Great Skid plate though. I also agree that it's the best on the market.

rickytickeytavey what about taking it off? I have the same bike and the SRT plate I have is super easy to take on and off when cleaning but it’s not very good at staying on the bike.

It hasn't come off yet while riding and its easy to take on and off. The only issue was having to relocate the bracket by drilling two new holes.

You don't need to remove it with this bike since the oil plug is on the side of the engine case.

On the 17' excf there's a drain plug on the bottom. I just drilled a hole to access it.

I use aluminium engine guard, this guard integral engine+pipe it'a a little heavier than yours(some thing about 3-3.5 kg's) but it's more confident than just a skid plate.

i have one on my husky300tpi, easy to fit if you have a heavy mate sit on the bike, levels out the linkage and the skidplate slips straight in no worries!

How does the weight compare to an Al plate when you include the mounting brackets? Granted that mounting system looks more robust than just screwing into the frame like my EE on the xc w (although has a small bracket to use instead on the xc version)

I suspect to make installation a little easier you could use a heat gun to heat up that area that needs to bend which will make it more pliable. Then you mount it up easy peasy!!

I had a 2010 husky n cracked that plastic skid plate right in half on one of my first rides with it. Must have been some shitty plastic. But i only run metal skid plates now just because they won't crack n I haven't seen one bend that hasn't been in a wreck that really messed up other components on the bike.

You locktite nylon locking nuts? I use the stock KTM plastic skidplate that came on my 500 exc. Perfectly adequate for what/how I ride.

Dirt Bike Channel I think the loctite attacks/damages the nylon in the lock nuts. Read that just recently and I know it screws with bushwalker fender flares.

AXP Racing, are the six nuts on the bottom mount countersunk into the plastic bracket on newer versions of your skid plate? Clearly the nuts on Kyle's skid plate are not, but maybe his is an older unit.

I have that skid plate. I hate the way it mounts. I don't like the fact that I have to remove it to change the oil. I ended up buying the enduro engineering skid plate and just left this laying in a bucket. I don't use it any more.
