Best Skin Care Wedding Routine | From a Dermatologist

I’ve helped many brides, grooms, members of wedding parties - and my own daughter who was married last year - to prepare their skin for ‘The Big Day’ (a.k.a. The Big Photo Shoot of a Lifetime). I know how important it is to have great skin when you’re in a wedding and my tips will help.
Think of wedding skin care in 2 phases:
Phase 1 is the Pre-Wedding Skin Care (I call this the Experimental Phase):
- Start as soon as possible.
- Experiment in an attempt to fix complexion flaws. It’s the time to try new products to avoid bad reactions at the last minute and try any procedures that you think might fix skin problems you want to address.
- Do these well in advance so you know how your skin responds
- If you have significant skin problems that might need medical care, go dermatologist shopping early. That way you will be sure to have a dermatologist you like and a treatment plan in place that works as the wedding approaches.
Phase 2 is your Countdown Week Wedding Skin Care Routine
• Keep it simple, don’t try new skin care routines or procedures right before the wedding day.
• Have your plan and products determined in the Pre-Wedding ‘Experimental Phase’
What works best for quick skin care on the week of your wedding?
• Physical Exfoliation with an exfoliating scrub that brightens your complexion quickly.
• Hyaluronic acid product that will ‘lock and load’ moisture into your skin to plump fine lines and wrinkles and impart a dewy youthful glow.
• Mattifying oil absorbing products to control excess oil if you have oily skin.
• Mineral zinc oxide sunscreens if your wedding is outdoors. Fit your sunscreen to your skin type: matte for oil control, hydrating for dry skin, etc.
• Mineral powder dusted over your sunscreen helps absorb oil or facial sweat.
Don’t forget your non-facial skin care routine!
If your chest or back is exposed you need to tackle acne and use products that create a satiny sheen.
• Find acne control products or see a dermatologist in your Pre-Wedding Experimental Phase. Acne on the body can be slow to clear so start early.
• Create a satiny sheen to your non-facial skin using an AHA lotion and physical exfoliation. Again, experiment with products early in the Pre-Wedding Phase since AHAs can be irritating and body skin takes time to change.
