The tubes aren't for water intake. They are support legs to keep the fountain from floating around to the edges where the water sprays outside of the birdbath

You could put the fountain in the middle then put some rocks around the perimeter and it would stay in the middle and give the birds a perch too. 😊

The plastic tubes are simply to center the unit. The unit is meant to float. Not be siting on the bottom of the birdbath. Rocks can be used around the edges of the unit to center it so water doesn't go over the edge and spill onto the ground. The directions that come with it aren't very clear.

Why didn't you trim the straws to center the fountain ? It keeps the fountain in the center so water doesn't spill over the sides. Your bird bath should be leveled, too. Yo could also put river rocks in it to keep the fountain from floating around.

The fountain floats around, so it would not matter about trimming the straws. The movement of the water coming out makes it float. The bath was leveled. And you can't put rocks on it to keep it in one place, otherwise you would cover the solar panels that make it work.

@@SingleGirlsDIY That's not correct. If you had trimmed the straws to but up against the bowl, the fountain would not float to the sides. You put the rocks on the side of the panel not on top of it. I think you should watch some other videos of how other creators have done it. I have rocks in the bottom of mine and slightly taller around the panel so it doesn't move to the side and shoot water out.

Mine didn’t come with tubes and my sunny area gets early evening shade so I’ll play around with it and see how it does. I’m going to try to center it with rocks too.

I was looking up how to clean the collector but what I found was how to clean the pulp. I’m in hard water and deposits can happen. Also I think there’s an on off if it’s new. 🤟🏼
