Great video on keeping the solar fountain stable. Will this also keep the water from freezing in the winter due to the circulation?
@adventureswithdougandjackie6 ай бұрын
I agree that these floating solar fountains are lots of fun. I have now built seven, given most to friends, and the action is just crazy when you get good sun. Usually means refilling the bowl once a day - depends on the spray head you use. I also found a new product that has some LED lights for a little splash of color at night. Obviously a small battery in the unit holds the energy for later. Fun! Thanks for sharing.

They're cute, as you said. And so are you. I enjoyed your demo and opinions. I can relate to everything you've said; I, too, continually refill the water bowls. But it's worth the trouble. That horrible "groaning" sound is what I heard this past winter coming from somewhere in my back yard. It didn't take me long to recognize what the sound was. Because these floating fountains are solar, they do not need water to set off the mechanism; they need only sun. So, rain, sleet, snow didn't prevent it from calling to me.

2:30 ah yes, the existential dread we all feel when you wake up in the morning 😂 the fountain has it down perfectly… but this reminds me, I need to make a little bowl with water for the bees, with some little rocks in it so they don’t drown but can walk around it and drink in between the rocks. I haven’t seen the usual wild bumblebees that came around last year so hopefully they stay if I add a spa for them 🙃. Also good to have you back!
@AthomewithKaren2 жыл бұрын
It's good to BE back! Or should I say BEE back? bahaha Yes the bees definitely need water. What little plants do you have for them to feed on?
@BeatrixKiddo2 жыл бұрын
@@AthomewithKaren Well, It’s about half tomato plants (about 30-ish), half pepper plants (another 30-ish, both sweet and hot) and then some cucamelons, small eggplants and zucchini, runner beans, a dozen strawberry plants which are in full bloom already and then radishes, beets, carrots, lettuce and some herbs coming in. Last year I started about a month later than now so maybe they’ll still come. We have some tomato and pepper flowers already but perhaps they’re not attracted yet due to the low quantity. Also planted a flower mix for bumblebees and butterflies, those are coming along nicely now but no flowers just yet. They should go crazy during summer though, I’m suspecting the plants are also still small and they can’t see them behind our fence on the second-floor terrace, but when the tomatoes and beans grow tall they should draw the attention of any bumblebee in the area. Can’t wait! They make this buzzbuzz sound when pollinating tomatoes cause they need to shake the flowers for the pollen to come out. So I always knew when they were around last year cause I could hear them hard at work :) I used to come in and shake all the flowers before work at 9 and then they started doing multiple tours at about 10-11 until the evening. For about 6 weeks I was sure I pollinated all the tomatoes but nope lol, they just came in after me to do the job properly 😅 They also refused any honey or sugar-water I gave them, even when put up to their trumpet snout, so we’ll just stick to a small water dish this time
