Nice one Ben & Mark. OMG, I hate that question... I get it all the time when I give a public speech. My stock answer is, "I'll tell you in 20 years". So based on that requirement, my Kyocera 125W panels now 25 years old... are still peforming fine.

Ha Exactly Glen. I wonder how you would have gone trying to claim a warranty on Kyocera after 24 years ;)

@@markcavanagh well, Kyocera solar are still in business as are the Rainbow Power Company who I bought them from!

I'm sorry you've had crap experience with Sunpower panels, their P7 range is a beautiful product.

It’s a shame such a good brand went cheap. I went to the P series factory in China. Quality control was a major concern. I then asked if they would independently test the panel. That confirmed my suspicions on build quality. I’ve also had heaps of people tell me they had issues in the field.

@@mcelectricalinteresting? How come the p6 range topped the PV labs ACT government sponsored testing? Happy to provide the link for people to see how panels all really stack up ?

When I had LG panels installed, I thought I would pay a bit more for a quality panel whose manufacturer would be around for the long run... How wrong I was. The panels are still working fine though. Then had a second system put on and went for QCells, Guess what? I seem to have cursed a second manufacturer. Same for the QCells.
@markcavanagh2 ай бұрын
Yeh, that’s why I sold Qcells for so long. It’s a gamble.

Hi Guys, looking forward to the Aiko Neostar panels test & thoughts.

So price per watt is not an issue to you? To have a panel 1% better but 200% more expensive is not important
@markcavanagh2 ай бұрын
Hey Paul, at 8:27 we discuss the price of the panel and say that rec isn’t for everyone
@ProckyZ2 ай бұрын
the price per watt of panels you are likely referring to is achievable from likely forced labor countries and practices of which are now being investigated. Some countries (UK) are even discussing banning panel from import who can not prove and meet enquiry standards.

nice insite on panels, any thoughts on the bifacial panels like suntech? that has no backing sheets glass on glass, not worried about the potential performance gain aspect.

It’s very interesting indeed. Interesting how a company can market a lot of spin out of a little win. Dynamic peak management probably has nothing to do with it.

@markcavanagh2 ай бұрын
Hey John, I don’t think that’s really what we say. The main panel we sell is Canadian. I think here we were fairly objective : 9:05 . I even call out the build quality and the shade warranty issue of Canadian during the video.
@heartobefeltАй бұрын
@@markcavanagh You have a pretty tough gig , researching and testing everything you use and then find out later that the manufacturer changes things and the quality turns to sheet. Having a quality product is only one thing , getting a supplier that backs up their warranty is another thing altogether , like many suppliers out there , the factory simply stops replying to emails and we get left with debt on our hands. The problem occurs in all sectors of infrastructure , not just solar.
