Brings back childhood memories. My grandmother never made pumpkin pies she didn’t like pumpkin but she could whip up a sweet potato pie that you could sit down and eat the whole thing it was so good. When I was 26 my grandmother died at the age of 98. She was a good southern cook in the panhandle of Texas. I enjoy your videos take care and God bless ♥️🙏🏼

Beverly Beverly Beverly, you saved my Thanksgiving. I had a recipe similar to this bookmarked in my phone. Well when I opened it today the recipe was different and only for 1 pie! I searched the whole internet and found yours! It is exactly how I made it. The old recipe had everything except brown sugar and lemon (I always tweaked it). So thankful for you! I will be writing this 1 down, I don't want to lose it because my brain can't seem to retain recipes no matter how many times I make them. Thank you again and have a blessed holiday.

Store bought crusts ruin the pie; they have ingredients in them that simply aren’t healthy. One 9” pie crust can be easily made with one cup of all purpose flour, 1/4 cup of shortening, a pinch of salt and 8-9 tablespoons of very cold water (I put mine in the freezer until it forms a nearly frozen top, the cold water will give you a flaky crust.). If you need more water, add it.

But I have sweet potatoes 🍠 in there and when I make my pies 🥧 I am going to try the lemon flavor in them. Sounds like you have not only a love for cooking but a taste for it as well. I’ve tried every sweet potato recipe to come down the Pike, but I just don’t like sweet potatoes…with one caveat…About once a year I get a craving for a baked sweet potato with lots of butter and salt. My families from the south and we should’ve had sweet potato pies growing up but we always had pumpkin and mincemeat because we’re also English. But once I tasted the sweet potato pie I don’t care for pumpkin as much. You are right the crust is store bought, but I have done it both ways, store pie shells are fine for me, and I am 70 and came up making them and they are very good.

WHY not steam them via stovetop? It also retains nutrients and flavor.

On stovetop takes the color away and a lot of the nutrients, oven has a deeper color.
