Thanks to you Sanjay, who strives to hunt the "rare bird" for the ruined but still perfectionist songwriters! This kind of product might well make a lot of people leave their headphones for the last steps of the mix process. This might also minimize the translation problems inherent in mixing with headphones and make people fell less insecure about it. What do you think?

First, thank you so much for the Super Thanks, sebapare! I think they've created something unique here and I'd really need to test it on a few mixes before I make a final final verdict. But from my first few listens to my own mixes, I'm highly impressed. I feel like these give that up close and personal (almost headphones) like experience while still achieving a wide, natural sound.

all of of his reviews i've seen have been way to positive and not critical enough, or he completely ignores a lot of the problems some of the products he reviewed has.. It seems to me like he's trying to leave a good impression to the companies that send him these products more than giving an honest & detailed review to his viewers. If i had not double, triple checked some of the gear i wanted to buy i would have made bad choices because of this guy making everything better than it seems

So would you say these are superior in some ways to the IN-5 because of the room correction features? Especially for a small untreated space?

5:29 this relates to the inverse square law, the intensity of sound decreases by approximately 6 dB for each doubling of distance from the sound source. therefore, monitors closer = perceived loudness (ps correct me if im wrong im just a sound engineering student lmao)

@@SanjayC obviously gotta try them myself to be able to judge, but the don't seem to take a lot less desk space than for example Mackies or even JBL 305. But if they sound cleaner and overall are better, then might be the best option. What I do like though, that they don't require neither dedicated stands or separate pack of wires for each. Pretty wild looking setup! I find that people tend to dismiss innovative monitor design based purely on the aesthetic. When the small foot-print format 1st started hitting the scene (The IK iLoud Micros come to mind) they were generally snubbed due to their size. Throw in a strange design and forget it. I mean, we're mixing entire albums on headphones now! Noone thought that would ever be a thing..but why not? I have a pair of the Art RM5s which are a strange but highly effective monitor design that packs 300 watts rms that sound wonderfully clear, flat, and produce deep and focused bass. They have an aluminum unibody enclosure, 12-inches high, 8-inches wide and a mere 3.5-inches deep with a 5" woofer and a tweeter with a center-plug wave guide. They produce bass down to 45 hz via 2 opposing passive radiators that take upper both sides of the speaker enclosure. They have removable stands and can be mounted on standard VESA systems. I love these things! I took a chance and am not disappointed. So I would have to say that I would definitely give the IN-UNFs a chance. Thanx again for all your wonderful and informative videos Sanjay!

thanks for the review. One thing I was hoping you would mention is that the satellites actually have two speakers inside of them in coaxial/concentric design. A high/mid speaker which makes the sound more efficient and natural because of the alignment and point source. This may be why you felt that these sounded louder than a 2 way monitor. A 3 way system will for sure be more efficient and detailed then a standard 2 way.

I use Kali's IN-8 and WS-12 set and I think they're great, especially for the price. I run and indie commercial studio and really can't justify ultra-premium priced anything for my operation. We've been running an apprenticeship program for the last 7 years, teaching 16-22 year old artists the fundamentals of audio engineering. I could see this as a great system for a lot of our students and will probably pick one up for my production desk at our apartment.

Do the come with grilles to protect the satellite units? Having those exposed and so close at hand kind of makes me nervous. This is definitely the sort of speaker setup I need to get away from using headphones all the time, but I'd rather not constantly be worrying about the satellite units when I'm babysitting nieces and nephews. Or even just me accidentally hitting one while reaching for something.

Wow. This is definitely an interesting solution! I'd love to give them a go, however, due to my desk which has an 88 keys keyboard on it (doesn't fit on the under desk tray as the keyboard it's quite high (NI S88 MK2) so the space left on the desk is limited and wouldn't be able to fit the bass unit (it's a 2 tier desk). That said, great idea and offering for however has a fitting desk!

Hi Sanjay, an absolute fan of yours here :) Thanks for making content that helps me out so much in starting out as a singer-songwriter now studying music production! Maybe a silly noob question relating to your statement… About this setup: I actually already have a subwoofer (that I needed to also listen to my Roland stage piano at home). I was wondering if I could (for that purpose, but maybe for mixing too) still use that with this speaker set. I know it is directed specifically at (bedroom) mixing/music production and very purpose-built. But left and right on the web, people still suggest adding a subwoofer to this set for an extra octave in the lower end. Is it even possible though, to connect a subwoofer to the Kali Audio IN-UN? Because output-wise, according to their documentation, it only has 2 sets of amplified left/right (banana plug) outputs for satellite speakers. I’m a bit confused how that actually makes sense on a system like this that indeed might benefit more of an added subwoofer for the unaddressed frequencies - instead of adding satellite speakers that are going to be very difficult to set up properly in addition to this ultra near field setup… (I’m having phase issue nightmares already:) But as said, I’m only beginning to study mixing and music production, so don’t shoot me if I’m missing the point completely!

Even in a smaller space it’s nice sometimes to use neat fields as room speakers when say several people just want to listen to a mix. Do they sound good at volume levels and listening positions typical in that scenario? Or are these really only superb with the position and config similar to what you set up. So if you’re moving around and just want them to be audio speakers … well, is that a limitation of these?
