Which Star Wars character is the most important to the story and why?
@cborch5553 жыл бұрын
John Williams's soundtrack is the most important character. It informs the emotions of every scene perfectly, to the point entire scenes can be remembered just by listening to the music
@InfamiiVT3 жыл бұрын
I've tried to think of many different characters who are the most important, but i've come at a bit of a crossroads. Palpatine/Sidious, And Obi-Wan Kenobi. Palpatine literally has been a manipulative bastard this entire time, and he has had a lasting effect throughout the entire story... However, Obi-Wan is the standing pillar of what Palpatine cannot control. He is a wall of a person, his mind cannot be turned, and his convictions remain undeterred. Obi-Wan has been eternally a major help in the story, and has always been helpful in these stories, being the main leading moral compass that characters run by. I thought of Luke as well, but...mmm...honestly, I grew tired of writing, and Luke was good mainly because of others' advice.
@YourGayOverlord3 жыл бұрын
@@cborch555 yes, John Williams can do no wrong! Praise be John Williams! In all seriousness he always manages to understand the tone and blends and creates his music perfectly, always innovating, but remaining similar enough to feel star wars. Plus all his other work is pretty great too, and duel of the fates, imperial march and the force theme all manage to fully encompass what they represent. Basically John Williams is great

If we're looking beyond the movies themselves, I think Darth Malgus. While Palpatine was a stone-cold power hungry psychopath and Darth Vader a manipulated slave, Malgus intentionally made himself into a warrior of the Dark Side, his loyalty and desire to improve the Sith empire going so far that he would even turn against the emperor of that era. If memory serves, he even slew his own wife not in a blind rage, but because he knew his love for her kept him from fully embracing the Dark Side. Why Malgus? Because he is a soldier that almost approaches the Dark Side with a Jedi's mindset, serving it as much as he uses it.

He wasn't aware. In somewhat recent discussions he's commented that when cast he hadn't even seen Empire. And George largely let him build the character in his portrayal in ROTJ. Like how Maul, Dooku and Grievous can be seen as different aspects of Vader. Where Maul is his rage and anger, Dooku is his mastery over the force, a former Jedi corrupted by the Dark Side and Grievous is his physical form, more machine than man. But also the constant drive to become better, to become powerful, to become.... perfect. The three members of the Emperors inner most council; Tarkin, Thrawn and Vader show different aspects of Sidious. Tarkin represents his ruthlessness and political mastery. Using fear as a tool to control the masses. It is for this reason that Tarkin became the Grand Moff of the entire Outer Rim and the leader of the Death Star (even though Tarkin never liked the weapon). Thrawn is his cunning, intelligence and patience. Like Thrawn, Sidious turned several losses into eventual wins with time. Sometimes even allowing himself to lose on purpose if it would give them an advantage later on. Sidious never lost sight of the end goal but always kept focus on the task at hand. He was one never to rush into battle until he held all the cards and knew how to play them to secure his victories. And finally Vader is his mastery over the force. The corrupting nature of the Dark Side. Rage, anger and hatred made manifest. But like Tarkin and Thrawn, pride ended up being the Emperors downfall. So confident in their victory that they underestimated their enemies. Thrawn with Ezra at the end of Star Wars Rebels. Tarkin with the Rebel Alliance in A New Hope, and finally Sidious with Luke when it came to Vaders heart and soul in Return of the Jedi. In the end Vader never underestimated Luke, as shown when Vader admits that Luke has become a Jedi master. Thus he knows how powerful Luke can be. Maybe enough to defeat the Emperor. Along with that, it was Anakins love and compassion that allowed him to escape the pitfalls that Tarkin, Thrawn and Sidious fell into. Even though it would cost him his life in the end. But for once in his life, in his final breaths, Anakin was finally free.

I have watched all four of your videos about Sheev Palpatine/Darth Sidious and I have to say that you did a fantastic job analyzing the character about how he rose to power and how he fell in the Battle of Endor. I think he is one of the greatest villains in movie history but is overlooked presumably because it's Star Wars he's in. Sadly his legacy was nearly ruined by Disney whose Sequel Trilogy ended up doing him a disservice by bringing him back out of the blue for the last film due to the teams behind the creation of the trilogy having no clear story mapped out from the beginning. Palpatine was brought back by JJ Abrams to effectively retcon what Rian Johnson did to Supreme Leader Snoke in The Last Jedi. I believe in the Legends material before Disney bought LucasFilm in 2012 and removed it from canon that Palpatine lingered on after his death as a dark side Force Ghost and still had an impact on the Galaxy who were trying to rebuild from the ashes of the fallen Galactic Empire. Eventually he was somehow defeated and could no longer influence the galaxy, even after death.

Around the tenth minute of the video, where we see Luke and Vader fight in front of Sidious, if we watch and listen carefully we can sense Vader's breathing speed increases when Luke tells him he senses his conflict. A subtle, yet so important and brilliant detail. I haven't ever heard anyone mentioning it, although it is so perfect. It shows a rare moment where Vader is desperately trying to look menacing and horrifying, but in reality he is not confident here. It can be heard, and it can be seen from his closed body language. For Vader Luke is not even a slight threat. He can crush everything that comes in his way, but now he is slowly becoming Anakin again and the only thing that can ,,defeat" him is his hidden lightness, which eventually will turn him back and redeem him. Darth Sidious is the best villain in cinematic history, because he is terrifying, genius and possesses unimaginable power. But Darth Vader might be the realest villain. Yes, he is evil to his core like his master, but unlike Sidious there are things Vader is afraid of. Like his deep thoughts and perhaps the fact he can't hide them always.
@victorconway4443 жыл бұрын
I don't think it was "compassion" which motivated Vader to argue the case for Luke's life. He was still firmly entrenched in the dark side at this point and viewed his son as an object just like Sidious did. But Luke had use for Vader. Vader at this point was seeing that all of Sidious's promises were lies to manipulate him. He secretly resented the Emperor, and wished to continue the cycle of the Order of Two by slaying his master and taking his place. He wanted Luke alive to help him in this plot and raise him as his own Sith apprentice.

If you think about doing Luke at some point, I once read a book on the SW saga stating that although Luke displays the 8 traits of the typical epic hero, it is in how melancholic and human he is that he truly becomes remarkable and interesting, kind of like Aragorn from LOTR. Sidious on the other hand was different, every single apprentice after their deaths he openly disgusted, blaming them for their "betrayals and weaknesses" after treating them like dirts all that time: - he called Maul a not-good-enough, foolish idiot, who deluded himself he was cunning - he called Dooku a proton torpedo, discarded when no longer useful, who deluded himself he was a true Sith and someone who mattered - he called Vader a sick man in an iron mask with a feeble heart
