Sebastian's a cool dude. Helluva singer, but also really down to earth. Met him in Detroit a few years ago and he bought a few of my buddies and i a round of drinks and hung out with us for about an hour, talking. Super cool guy.

Loved it!!! In my mind the natural progression was DLR to Sebastian Bach. Sebastian was the only one who could make me fall in LOVE with a band like I did with VH when I was a kid. Music notwithstanding, these two frontmen were the difference between appreciating somebody's music and getting totally emotional about the band itself.

My girl friend and I were sitting at the bar in the Rainbow around 1994 or so. Lemmy from Motorhead was playing one of those old tabletop Packman video games. With his drink running low he comes up to the bar says Hey how you doing? I was stupidly star struck and just said Great. He got a new drink and went and played Packman again. It was one of those times if I wasnt so starstruck I might have been able to have a cool conversation with a Lemmy from FReaking Motorhead and I blew it. I will regret that the rest of my life but at least I met him so to speak. Its weird though that bar to them is just a neighborhood bar. Alot of those rockers born in Los Angeles drank there before they were famous.

I was in that same situation ironically right around that same time frame 94. And I did end up taking advantage of Lemmy being very approachable and bought him drinks for about 2 hours. It was the best $200 I ever spent LOL! We talked about everything he answered every question I possibly could think of. He was a cool dude no shit. Love both bands -- GnR and VH. David Lee Roth was (is) a complete original, who synthesized elements from Robert Plant, Elvis, Freddie Mercury -- and Barnum & Bailey's. Now he's synthesizing elements of James Brown and funk. He's redefined the role of frontman in rock. Axl Rose took what DLR did and inserted anger instead of humor. Search David at his peak '80-'86, and then Axl at his peak '87-'91. The influence is easy to see.

David Lee Roth synthesized a bunch of different influences and turned it into the role of "the rock and roll frontman" as performance art -- from the attitude and one-liners, to the look, to the stage presence, flying leaps, and karate. I can understand him saying that, b/c for over a decade, everyone copied his act... Even now when you look at Adult Swim's Dr. Rockso, or a band like Steel Panther -- it's a facsimile of DLR.
