I like the subpac for mixing, it's definitely a strange feeling to begin with, almost intrusive but after about 20-30 mins of using it, when your brain starts to forget that you're wearing it, then it becomes quite immersive.

Thanks for your very informative Video. I decided to purchase the KRK 8s2 for my home studio. I connected it to my 2 KRK Rokit 5 monitors and WOW!!! an absolutely incredible speaker. I was totally surprised and never expected this Subwoofer to be so high in quality, not only the woofer itself but also the high quality sound. The competitors are going to be jealous (not trying to be biased) when you take into consideration that it only has an 8 inch Speaker. Take my word for it the KRK is incredible!

Congrats are in order. Depending on room size, 2x 8-inch, 2x 10-inch, 1x 12-inch or 1x 15-inch might also work. I wouldn't go with Genelec subs, they have one model subwoofer with a single 5-inch cone! WTF is up with that?

I'm back living in an apartment again sure miss having a house and could play, listen, or work on music at any hour I wanted. I do want to be considerate of my neighbors for many reasons. First consideration I choose an bottom floor apartment so no bass rumbling downward. Second none of my music gear touches the walls to help reduce sound and bass coupling with a shared wall. Now most apartments I've lived in have carpeted floors which are good for reducing sound and bass from traveling, but that is issue for a downward shooting subwoofer. A lot of the sound is going to be absorbed by the carpet and not reflect out that well. That will make you the mixer want to crank the bass more and now unhappy neighbors. So if in an apartment with carpeted floors I'd go with a front firing subwoofer and put it as far away from you as you can get it, like behind you. Bass sound waves are big and take a couple feet for the sound to develop, if you are too close the bass is blowing by you and again your start cranking the volume and unhappy neighbors. If you use a front firing sub' a few feet behind you the bass sound should be fully developed when if get to you in your mixing position. Last consider the size of your room and size of the subwoofer speaker. Sure a big speaker looks and thumps a lot, but that big speaker needs to be cranked more to work efficiently. In a smaller room a smaller sub will be more effective and probably be more punchy sounding than thumpy. Sanjay a few episodes talked about a sound analysis tool that EQ's you rmonitor sound for your room to eliminate big spikes or drops in the frequency range. If you get a subwoofer it would be good to use a tool like that to balance out your nearfield monitors and your subwoofer. Update: If you're using a downward firing sub on a carpeted floor, you might want to put a piece of plywood under the sub to reflect the sound out.

2x Adam Sub 8 is what I recommend. They are really amazing. Two subwoofers will balance the way the sound reflects in the studio and it's easier to control. I don't recommend subs that are pushing air into the ground. It's not an ideal solution for a clear sound and the floors materials will change the way it sounds too. I also don't recommend reflective surfaces for the floors, such as parquet or rigid materials.

@peterlagroove65554 жыл бұрын
if you look at the specs of your speakers you will understand that no matter what you think about it, you are definitely missing frequencies. In particular, those which are under 35hz. What is interesting to understand is that the subwoofer, being adjustable, allows you to find frequencies that your main speakers are struggling to reproduce. For example ... Let's say your speakers go down to 38hz, to -6db. Therefore, you should understand that this is the limit offered by your speakers. It’s a "flaw", nothing less! So if your subwoofer is adjusted to fully restore dB at frequencies below those possible with your speakers, you get a fuller sound, and more faithful to the recording. But beware! Adjusting a subwoofer is a very delicate technique requiring a VERY developed ear. Question: What is YOUR reason for not using a subwoofer in your stereo listening?
@frankfarago28252 жыл бұрын
Oh, that's simple. No human voice, vocals go dowq to 35 Hertz, and there are tons of (genre and types) of music that also have nothing going down to 35 Hertz. Am I in the clear then?
