Presonus is doing a much better job at the crossover. On the mackie you can still hear some lower midrange which you don't want to be reproduced by a subwoofer. On your sound demo you should have normalized their output to be at the same level to have a fair comparison.

How would manipulating their sound output be fair?
@spiroszaharakis2648
@spiroszaharakis2648 6 ай бұрын
What a clueless comment. Since when adjusting the volume is considered "manipulation"? Different input sensitivity will produce a different output SPL. When comparing speakers first thing you do is bring them at the same sound pressure level using the input gain knob. @@RobVespa

Got my Presonus Eris 8 today and hooked it up with my Presonus 3.5 and it sounds great. Gets even better once you balance it all out with pink noise and a SPL. Plenty of bass and mixed with the 3.5 it creates a wonderful listening/mixing station for budgeters and beginners.

I am afraid the sound comparison was not accurate and also not fair for the simple reason that I suppose you set the crossover point differently on both subs. If the crossover frequency was set differently, which I really suppose it was, then of course the Mackie sub will play a lot of low mid range frequency as opposed to the PreSonus one. I recommend experimenting with the crossover feature on both and try to get both subs to sound as close as possible and then redo the sound test and post it in a different video. Otherwise this is totally useless, to be honest.

Very good point. I have the Mackie, and feel like it can't really perform unless the low pass filter is cranked up to the max, like 180hz. If i drop it to 120, it almost feels like it doesn't get enough power or something? I might just chalk it up to sub-par crossover? But I 100% agree with this comment, I am very curious to see how they perform against each other using the same LPF settings.

Just wanted to share my experience with the Mackie. My desktop speakers are the iLoud Micro mtm's, with such small speakers I immediately starting to miss low end on music - I listen to a lot of EDM. For reference, I'm using an old Asus Xonar essence STX sound card. I decided to go with the mackie as it seems it delivers more power vs the presonus, and i really liked the idea of having the controller to turn the bass down at night - these were the very loose deciding factors for me. My setup is sound card, into the mackie, then the ilouds out of the sub. Because the ilouds are powered speakers, i was getting a pretty annoying ground loop. I picked up a ground loop isolator for $20 and hooked it up between the sub and soundcard - this made a pretty big difference. Once i got over that, i started to play with the settings on my sound card, sub, and powered monitors and i came to the conclusion that although this sub does the job in filling the lows, I was disappointed in that it didn't deliver that chest pounding bass i was hoping for - but i think that's just me being hopeful. Additionally, this could just be due to my setup, but you don't really hear or feel too much bass unless the input volume (ie. pc volume) is pretty high. The Mackie did the job, but was a little underwhelmed at the power, it got to the point where i would have to back the volume waaaay down on my ilouds to balance everything. Lastly, mine had some quality defects, the cone was not properly glued in and fell out, i had to glue it back in, but i won't hold that against Mackie. Overall, I'd say it was a 7/10 purchase. TLDR: Mackie Sub - Ground loop with active speakers was fixed with a ground loop isolator. It does the job decently, but nothing mind blowing. Controller is handy. 7/10.

Thanks for the review, I bought a Presonus Sub 8 and put the Subwoofer in a quality audio setup. From the Yamaha 2100 amplifier, I took the signal from Pre out via Sub8 to the Adam audio TV 7 monitors. In addition to the Adam audio monitors, I also connected column speakers to the Yamaha power amplifier. A proven interplay of both systems, which plays great together. What this set lacked, however, was the lowest bass below 40 Hz, during quiet, intimate listening. Now I am extremely satisfied.

I was so looking forward to a comparison of these two, but this was really disappointing, sorry. Half of it was just basic info that you can get anywhere. And in the actual sound test I don't know what you did but the Mackie sounds completely weak, I don't think that's how it's supposed to be. Also, where is the most important info?: Do they really deliver what the manufacturers claim, i.e. go down to 30 Hz and at how many db? Give us some facts!

For monitoring Presonus Eris 8 I'm thinking of using it with the Presonus E5, also for listening to music and gaming when I'm on the computer. I also wanted to ask if it would be okay to use as a subwoofer for my home theater. Now the subwoofer is some old pioneer S-W90S, which is 6" and already shows the baggage (quite buzzing). My whole room is about 30-33 square meters, but it has a small volume, since the floor is attic and it is slanted at the ends. Thanks in advance!

What was the filter set to on the Mackie? Sounds like you had it all the way to 180hz. No way that much mid range should be coming from a subwoofer...The subwoofer should be set to like 100hz or lower for bass. I'm willing to bet money if the Mackie was rolled off properly it would have sounded much better.

And... after purchasing both subs and seeing for myself... to me it feels like there's just something fundamentally wrong with this particular Mackie sub.(Or maybe just a particular run of them? Thank you for your videos. If I have bluetooth eris 4.5 monitors do I have to get the subwoofers with or without bluetooth as there is a jump in price for the bluetooth?
@duvalpenny100
@duvalpenny100 Жыл бұрын
I don't belive they make a subwoofer with blue tooth. I researched this and came to the conclusion that the sub can't be connected via Bluetooth at all straight out of the box. To add onto this, the eris 4.5 with BT can still be used with the sub, but they'll only work together if you don't use BT (RCA or TRS only).
@alainsellier7751
@alainsellier7751 Жыл бұрын
@@duvalpenny100 Thank you. I found that in order to get bluetooth with the subwoofer you need to get the Presonus Micro Station BT 2.1 Monitor controller with bluetooth for $130. I'll pass on that, I just orderd the Sub8 for my Eris 4.5.

Hello Edward, Im happy I found you. I enjoy your videos Edward. Edward nice, smart sound video man Edward. I subscribed . but i need some help! I have a 2014 model lg soundbar that comes with it's own, separate, bluetooth subwoofer. Now, ive just purchased the mackie cs3 studio speakers; my question is, is there any way i can bypass the Bluetooth connectivity to connect my lg subwoofer bass with my cs3 monitors? if not through bluetooth, can you think of any Edward hacks that would enable to pair these two, different devises to work in unison with each other? Please let me know, i havent found anything online pertaining to this. Thank you !m wanting to know Edward.

Hey man, thanks for subscribing!! Honestly, I'm not too sure how to connect a system subwoofer to studio speakers. You can try and connect the speakers to your setup, then only connect with one of the Bluetooth devices... I hope it works!

The Mackie has way too much higher frequency sound. It's supposed to be a subwoofer, for low end extension only.

I'm not sure if it's related to Mackie actually removes the low end so the desk speakers don't have to pump the lows, resulting in more clear desk speakers pumping louder clearer crisp highs. This is why it's significantly louder. I don't know if the presonus does this, often cheap ones dont. I do hear it's louder and had higher frequency on its own though. Together the Mackie setup sounds more nice imho, Maybe some sort of relationship?
@0525ohhwell
@0525ohhwell 2 жыл бұрын
HPF stands for High Pass Filter and that cuts the lows out of a signal. The PreSonus has one that is locked at 100hz. Enabling or disabling the HPF has no affect on the sub's output, just the signal sent to the outputs on the sub. The Mackie does not even have a HPF. It sounds like he had the LPF set WAY too high on the Mackie. Well either that or it was broken...

hello. question. if I buy the Bluetooth version of the speakers, the signal will come from the computer, the subwoofer must be connected via cable? or does the subwoofer have a wireless connection?! Thank you Brother!

You can just connect via Bluetooth. The sub just has to be plugged into the wall for power.

you do understand the reason the sax sounded louder with the mackie is because the sub is doing the one thing it's literally not supposed to do: play mid/high frequencies. the presonus only does what it's supposed to (put out bass), and the mic is in front of the sub which is why you hear that in the presonus comparison moreso than the mid/highs

@@danz_w Yeah, I have one on the way, myself. If mine sounds like that when set to 120hz or lower it will definitely be going back. However, I've heard another one of these in person and it didn't sound like that... so I'm hoping. - Edited to add: Yeah... mine arrived, and my crossover didn't have this issue. However, I have a Klipsch 6.5" sub that simply blows this one away. The Mackie is definitely going back tomorrow. Too much hiss, you have to have the overall volume quite high along with the sub maxed out just to get any reasonable volume (even on true 'sub' frequencies 40-80hz). It's a shame really. Looked nice :)
